Emily and Dev Bring Their Britannia to LA For Freida and Amy

Stars from the UK and beyond hit the red carpet in LA last night for the annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts Britannia Awards. Emily Blunt represented her homeland as she was named Artist of the Year. Her fiance John Krasinski is usually by her side, but he was in NYC getting ready for his appearance on The View this morning where he talked about the proposal. Emily was joined, though, by her Sunshine Cleaning costar Amy Adams. Slumdog Millionaire couple Dev Patel and Freida Pinto smiled for the cameras before heading inside to see the film's director, Danny Boyle, pick up a filmmaking award.

Brits and Americans Honoured at BAFTA LA Britannia Awards

Several Brits were honoured at the BAFTA/LA Britannia Awards in California last night. Actors who received awards included Colin Firth, who picked up the Humanitarian Award, and Emily Blunt who was named British Artist Of The Year. Robert De Niro received the Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence In Film, Kirk Douglas was awarded for his Worldwide Contribution To Filmed Entertainment and Danny Boyle received Artistic Excellence In Directing. Danny was joined by his Slumdog Millionaire stars Dev Patel, Freida Pinto and Anil Kapoor.

Other stars at the ceremony included Claire Danes, Minnie Driver, Lucy Davis and Stephen Fry, who hosted the ceremony and said: "(In London) as the evening progresses, a larger and larger percentage of the audience gets really annoyed, by the end of the evening three quarters of the entire room are angry because they got passed over for an award. The beauty of the Britannias is that everyone knows who has won, five winners - and it's short."

Katie and the Women of Hollywood Celebrate With Elle

The Elle Women in Hollywood Awards brought out some of the town's biggest names last night. The ceremony was held to coincide with the magazine's similarly themed upcoming issue, and cover girl Katie Holmes hit the cream carpet to show her support. Apparently Suri helped Katie select her all-black outfit, and the proud mom even opened up about their adventures in Boston. Katie commented that, "She loves clothes and picks out her own. . . . She loves running and she loves dancing." Cat Deeley and Robin Wright also opted for dark dresses, while Renee Zellweger, Diane Kruger, and Emily Blunt lightened things up a bit.

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski made another appearance together after their weekend trip to the Mill Valley Film Festival, as the happy engaged couple gets more comfortable stepping out side by side. She said a few words onstage before posing for photos with the evening's host, Alec Baldwin. Renee Zellweger flashed a big smile, perhaps due to her romantic few days in Vancouver with Bradley Cooper. Robin Wright mingled with Benicio del Toro, as the ladies got together to enjoy fun company and champagne.

Elle Pays Tribute to Cover Star Women in Hollywood

Elle magazine hosted its annual Women in Hollywood Tribute at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills last night, and gorgeous British women rubbed shoulders with their American counterparts. Cat Deeley kept it classic in an LBD and L'Oreal Paris Legend Award recipient Julie Andrews was elegant in her black floor-length frock. All five November cover stars were in attendance, with Renee Zellweger dazzling in bright red, Emily Blunt cute in a nude number and Katie Holmes daring in a sheer black outfit alongside fellow cover stars Julianne Moore and Zoe Saldana. John Krasinski joined his fiancée to her celebrate, and Emily told Elle:

"I feel the fear of the business creep under my skin in L.A. in a way that it doesn’t in England. It’s funny – I feel like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, unless you’re in Hollywood! It’s shameful how you have to look a certain way. Women are simply not allowed to grow old gracefully. That’s why I love playing character parts, because I’m not pigeonholed into trying to remain young forever to play the ingénue or romantic lead."

Movie Preview: Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt in The Wolf Man

I learned way more about The Wolf Man movie than I needed to know back in July of '08 when I saw a Comic-Con panel with actors Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt. At the time I thought the footage looked really cool, and I figured we'd get a real trailer for the movie soon because the release date was April 3, 2009. That Comic-Con panel was, you know, over a year ago, and obviously April came and went. But now we do have a trailer for The Wolf Man along with some interesting images, and I think it was all worth the wait.

Now set to hit theaters Feb. 12, 2010, The Wolf Man tells the story of Lawrence Talbot (Del Toro), "a haunted nobleman," who returns to his ancestral homeland and is bitten (and cursed) by a werewolf. Paul Giamatti and Benicio Del Toro Make Two of Three Stooges

Funny filmmaker Peter Farrelly revealed to The Boston Globe that he and his brother Bobby have settled on a replacement for Sean Penn as Larry in their Three Stooges movie: Paul Giamatti. He joins the already-cast Benicio Del Toro (apparently "one Hollywood's biggest Three Stooges fans"), who will star as Moe. Though there was talk previously of Jim Carrey taking on the role of Curly, Farrelly said that this is not the case, and he didn't offer up any other names.

When I did a Recast challenge for the Three Stooges long before there was news of an actual movie, John C. Reilly was the winning choice for Curly, which I could easily envision with Giamatti and Del Toro. What do you think? Who should play Curly in the Farrelly Bros. movie?

Matthew and Catherine Celebrate Michael's Body of Work

Michael Douglas was the man of the evening last night as he received an AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in LA. He hit the red carpet on the arm of his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, while his Ghosts of Girlfriends Past costar Matthew McConaughey brought along Camila Alves. Kiefer Sutherland and Tobey Maguire took the stage to pay tribute to their pal Michael, and Catherine even brought out her Chicago skills for a song-and-dance number in her husband's honor. Michael's been a Hollywood heavyweight for decades, but we'll see more of him on the big screen in the Wall Street sequel and, according to Catherine, a project they're looking to star in together.

Are These Three the New Stooges?

I've been curious about the Farrelly Brothers' Three Stooges project for a while now, and "curious" is also the word I'd use to describe today's casting news. Sean Penn is, as rumored, on board to play Larry, and Jim Carrey has entered negotiations to play Curly. And while nobody's officially claimed the role of Moe, The Hollywood Reporter says Benicio del Toro has been named as a possibility.

So, let's take a look at these three. Could they be funny together? With the exception of Carrey, none of them is particularly known for being funny solo, but maybe there's a hidden world of pratfalls and "nyuk-nyuk"s buried deep inside of them. Also of note, this tidbit about the project itself:

Originally constructed as four separate shorts, the feature screenplay has since been streamlined into a single narrative. Included in the story line is an opening that shows the Stooges as kids in an orphanage, a device that will require some Benjamin Button-style visual trickery to place the adult actors' heads on child actors' bodies.

So, it seems we've got a lot to talk about. How do these three potential Stooges-to-be stack up to your recast picks (I can't believe they wouldn't/couldn't get John C. Reilly)? And how are you feeling about the project itself at this point?

Penelope Adds a Goya to List of Award Season Honors

Penelope Cruz hopped from the Rome set of Nine to Madrid, where she walked the green carpet at last night's Goya Awards alongside her sister Monica and Benicio del Toro. Benicio took home the Best Actor statue for Che, and Penelope was crowned Best Supporting Actress for Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She's no stranger to the podium at the Goyas, but she was still deeply touched by the honor. Penelope didn't stick around Europe long - she made it to LA to attend today's Oscars luncheon. She recently opened up about her nomination, saying,

It’s not a lie that it is an honor to be nominated, and if I don’t win, I won’t be any less honored, but . . . look, ask anyone who is nominated. No matter what you think you feel about awards, when you’re there, sitting in that seat, with those people, all dressed up - of course you want to win!

She's facing stiff competition on Feb. 22, but she just got some extra practice yesterday delivering an acceptance speech.
