In the days following the Haiti disaster, celebs gathered to try and use their influence to encourage people to donate. George Clooney put together his Hope for Haiti Now telethon, while in the UK Simon Cowell contacted his celeb friends and colleagues including Mariah Carey, Susan Boyle, Take That, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Cheryl Cole, James Blunt, Westlife, and James Morrison to put together a charity single. We heard it at the beginning of last week, and now the video has debuted.

The latest news coming out of the casting rumor mill is that James Franco has signed on for Danny Boyle's 127 Hours. Based on a true story, the film follows Aron Ralston, a mountaineer who got pinned under a rock for days during an excursion in Utah. In order to survive, Ralston cut off his own arm (that scene's going to be hard to stomach, but hopefully Franco's good looks will at least help a little).

The film centers on the real-life plight of climber Aron Ralston, who got pinned under a boulder during an excursion in 2003 and saved himself by cutting off his own arm with a dull knife.

Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has expressed interest in buying the film rights to singing phenomenon Susan Boyle's life story.
I can see why Susan Boyle's story would appeal to the Welsh beauty, who can also sing and dance. The dowdy underdog who ended up wowing the judges on Britain's Got Talent has a story with built-in buzz and drama.

Yesterday the New York Times rounded up sociologists, anthropologists, and other -gist types to explain the science behind our love affair with singing sensation Susan Boyle. Why did we fall so hard? Because we didn't expect it.
