On Our Radar: Rodarte Design Bridalwear

Rodarte is one of the most exciting brands to show at New York fashion week. The design house run by Kate and Laura Mulleavy creates edgy, directional clothes which are regularly lusted after by the fashion pack. This morning it was revealed that the sister designs are branching out in to bridalwear this Summer for filmmaker Miranda July.

Miranda attended the Autumn show earlier this year. She then picked bits of past collections that she liked in order to create her perfect wedding gown for her pending nuptials in May. She is marrying Mike Mills who too is a fan of Rodarte, already owning a pair of their pyjamas! Maybe this brief flirtation with bridalwear will encourage the Mulleavy sisters to include wedding gowns in future collections?

Stella McCartney to Design Scarlett's Wedding Dress?

Over the weekend Scarlett Johansson announced her engagement to Ryan Reynolds and then showed off her engagement ring at the Met Costume Gala on Monday. Now it seems the actress will not be short on wedding dress offers as Stella McCartney told People magazine, "I'm definitely doing her wedding dress. She doesn't know it yet."

However, Stella who also designed Madonna's wedding dress might have some competition on her hands as Dolce & Gabbana obviously already know and Marc Jacobs has offered his congratulations. "I'm really happy for her. She's a great girl. I just think Scarlett is great and I hope she is very, very happy. She's super funny. I love a smart, ballsy, New Yorker and that's what she is. I wish her the best."
I can't wait to see her dress!

Fab Ad: Kate Moss For Agent Provocateur Bridal

Agent Provocateur's new bridal ads featuring Kate Moss are nothing short of sheer horror. The picturesque fantasy and horror-themed photoshoot depicts Moss in a surreal world of bleeding heads, skulls, and crossbones. I get the whole anti-bride theme, but isn't romance what she's supposed to be selling? I was hoping to see a more amorous side of Kate but I can't deny that she still looks Fab despite the blood and gore. Is this what you expected to see from Kate?

On Our Radar: Marchesa to Launch Bridal Collection

Last week Coleen McLoughlin had an eleven-hour fitting with Marchesa for her wedding dress. Coleen, who is due to get married to footballer Wayne Rooney this summer, has obviously inspired Marchesa as today it was announced that they would be launching a bridal collection. Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman has a fair amount of experience with bridal gowns as she designed her own dress for her wedding to Miramax mogul Harvey Weinstein last December.

Marchesa are set to launch a capsule wedding collection next month, with designs for Coleen's dress being kept closely under wraps. It has been reported that a team of security guards escorted Georgina from the fitting with Coleen. Knowing that Marchesa is so popular on the red carpet, we can't wait to see their bridal line.

If you haven't already noticed, it's Wedding Planning Mania here and all the Sugar sites are onboard so please spread the word! It's fitting that we feature the fab site: Lynn Lugo Bridal. Before hearing about this website, I didn't know one could design a bridesmaid dress online! Yes, you read correctly; you no longer have to go through the hassle of shopping for a dress for your wedding party because you can create the perfect one from your computer.

First you choose the dress (choose from over 40 styles), then the fabric color (they have everything from fuchsia to kiwi), and finally the details (bow at the waist, spaghetti straps, ruffle hem trim, etc.) Tea length dresses with solid fabrics start at $245 and full-lengths start at $285 (that's not including the details).

If you'd rather not design your own, Lynn Lugo Bridal also sells ready-made dresses.

Fab Flash: Economy Forces Bridal Designers to Think Bigger and Cheaper

During trying, economic times, bridal designers are forced to think creatively. On top of slashing prices, designers are cooking up new, imaginative designs to lure in the bride to be. Vera Wang, for example, reduced her price points up to 50 percent with gowns retailing at $3,600 compared to $5,500 last year. "There is a bigger challenge. You have to be creative and be sure you want to show something special,” said Carolina Herrera who came up with a unique bridal collection inspired by classic painters such as Claude Monet and Édouard Manet.

Alfred Angelo, a 75-year-old bridal label, launched a Recessionista collection with prices starting at $298.

Monique Lhuillier designed a new bridesmaid line retailing between $250 and $390.
