The holiday season will soon be upon us, which means it's time to gear up your gift-buying. It's also time to start hunting for a cute party dress to get you through those holiday cocktail gatherings. So starting today, I'll be spending the week looking at the hottest party-dress trends, so that you can find the frock that's perfect for you. Today's installment: bubble-hem dresses. Trend Alert: Bubble Trouble

Just when I thought someone magically popped the fashion bubble, we are back in bubble trouble. Designers and celebrities alike can't get enough of bubble hems. To be truthful, this is a look only a slim gal should attempt and heels lessen any negative bubbling of the body. Emma Roberts wore a dark and tailored Sass & Bide bubble dress, The Hills' Lo donned a colorful Ina Soltani bub, and Elizabeth Bank's Moschino bubbler was gray and subdued. I prefer the bubbles that have a tailored approach, at least it's a reinvention of the trend. Does anyone else wish this '80s trend would bubble over already?

Who Wore It Better? Pink Polka Dot Alice + Olivia Dress

It's teen week here at Fab, so get ready for bubblegum curls and polka dot Alice + Olivia dresses. This little number was worn by teeny boppers Miley Cyrus, at MTV's TRL, and Monique Coleman, at the Teen Choice Awards preparty. Funny how both girls wore fuchsia shoes with the bubble hem dress. My vote goes to Monique because she shows off the delicate neckline better; Miley's hair is distracting. Who looks cutest to you?

Graduate Fashion Week 2008: University of Central Lancashire

Graduate Fashion Week kicked off for another year yesterday opening with a show from UCLAN (University of Central Lancashire). Graduate Fashion week has moved to a new venue now taking over Earls Court 2 which is literally bursting with young, talented graduates just waiting to jump in to the fashion design scene.

The level of skill on show from UCLAN was higher than ever with original, creative pieces that were still very wearable. The show (well, the whole week) opened with Maria Manfredi's collection of nautical dresses with bunting ruffles and hints of a union jack flag. They were flatteringly cut with many being backless complete with plenty of ruffles and bows.

Karlie Whitehead also produced an intriguing collection using pastel and neutral shades for feminine knitted dresses. Her line was followed by Nicola Cook's imaginative line of dresses using quilted black fabric, and sharp shapes for an architectual collection. It was quite vampish with box applique.

Stephanie Berresford's pieces stood out introducing a reoccurring GFW theme but creating variations on the jumpsuit. Hers were produced in coral from loose fabric holding their shape with an ankle bangle. She also introduced another key trend for the day, the bubble hem.

The Look For Less: ABS Charmeuse Red Dress

The floral trend has been blooming for some time now and this ABS by Allen Schwartz Charmeuse red dress, $300, is a fab favorite. It may look familiar, as it reminded us of Nicole Kidman's red Balenciaga Oscars gown - remember? Although compared to many frocks out there right now it's not that expensive, it is still pretty pricey for something you'll probably only wear once or twice. Let's face it: with something this red and eye-catching, you don't want to be caught wearing it at every soiree.

This Bebe Silk Mesh Bubble Dress, $140, is nearly identical to the dress above. It has the bubble hem and the flowers at the nape of the neck, though they're not as prominent. It's not that much cheaper, but when you're working hard for the money, every penny counts!

Look for Less: Emma Bunton at Children's Champs Gala Ball

The Children's Champions Gala Ball took place last night at London's Renaissance Chancery Court hotel and it attracted a whole host of the rich and famous from Prime Minister Gordon Brown to Big Brother 8 evictee Chanelle Hayes! Spice Girl Emma Bunton attended in this gorgeous black bubble hem dress. Emma's style is often overlooked because of fellow band member Victoria Beckham but I think she wears great clothes for her shape.

The waist belt is essential for making this look work for Emma and adds flashes of colour with red nails and silver shoes. See below for a way to get her look for less.
