Cell Phone Button Bracelet: Love It or Leave It?

"Boop boop boop boop!" That would be me wearing this bracelet made of old cell phone buttons, which would not be annoying to anyone at all. The Handy Bracelet is on sale for $25, and it's like a charm bracelet for geeks, only you didn't have to painstakingly choose charms that meant something to you; they've already been plucked from a dead mobile phone's keypad.

I also like thinking of this bracelet as a concept design for future cell phones, wherein you just press the charms of your bracelet to dial. I might get this bracelet to pretend that that's what it does; me talking into a fake cell phone on my wrist plus making "boop boop" noises might be enough to have me committed.

In any case, it's a pretty fab way to recycle something that would have just been waste. What do you think of it?

A Peek Inside the Wall Street Pink Slip Party

Could it be an out-of-workplace trend in the making? The Wall Street Pink Slip party was packed with job hunters and recruiters alike, and the only way to distinguish who had what the other person wanted was the color around the party-goers' wrists. Neon green bracelets were given to guests looking to hire, while red bracelets were donned by those looking for work.

It may sound like a job fair, but this party was held in a bar with adult beverages to loosen up the buttoned-up crowd. The parties have packed in hundreds of people looking to network their way into new careers. After the close of one of the worst months for job layoffs ever, I can see these industry "parties" gaining popularity inside and outside the Wall Street crowd.

Fab's Oscar Top Three

What I enjoyed about this year's Oscars was the chance for some red carpet newbies to shine.

Though I was super disappointed red carpet superstars Cate, Reese, and Nicole were either absent or didn't walk the red carpet, it was nice seeing new enthusiastic faces. Especially Benjamin Button nominee Taraji Henson. Every time the camera chose her, she was smiling and bright. Her buttercream Roberto Cavalli confection was absolutely delectable, I wanted to eat it up. The tiered cascading gown also had the perfect size fishtail, not too overwhelming, but still dramatic. I'm sure you also noticed her vintage necklace - 19th-century Fred Leighton. She gave a nod to the red carpet (and added a punch of color) with her burgundy silk Mary Norton clutch.

I didn't realize how much I missed Natalie on the red carpet until last night when she floated by in her orchid pink Rodarte. I started to get bored with all the neutral hued gowns, so Natalie held my attention. The asymmetrical ruched bodice and Swarovski crystal detailing are sweet, subtle touches. She wore simple Kwiat vintage diamonds - vintage studs, a large deco cuff, and stackable rings - all the better to let her lovely hued dress and gorgeous face shine. Her vampy nails added some spice to her sweet ensemble.

Both of the ladies from The Wrestler looked stellar last night; Evan Rachel Wood and Tomei both made our Best Dressed poll. Marisa's dove gray Versace got better and better by the minute. And did I mention she worked it? She had one of the most precise trains and she vogued like crazy; Tomei's got the red carpet thing down. The spirals and folds on the skirt fanned out to create such an awesome effect. Her totally toned arms wore a cool Van Cleef & Arpels diamond and sapphire bracelet while she also showed off a diamond ring and lapis lazuli and diamond earrings.

Trend Alert: Fabric Infused Jewelry

I was prompted to show you this trend after my Celebrity Style: Nicole Richie this week. As you can see she is wearing clusters of bracelets, or necklaces worn as bracelets, which seem to swallow her frail wrists. I found some other cool fabric infused jewelry I thought you'd enjoy. HEALTH GUIDE REFERENCE FROM A.D.A.M

Definition

CPR is a lifesaving procedure that is performed when an infant's breathing or heartbeat has stopped, as in cases of drowning, suffocation, choking, or injuries. CPR is a combination of:

Rescue breathing, which provides oxygen to the infant's lungs.
Chest compressions, which keep the infant's blood circulating.

Permanent brain damage or death can occur within minutes if a infant's blood flow stops. Therefore, you must continue these procedures until the infant's heartbeat and breathing return, or trained medical help arrives.

Considerations

CPR can be lifesaving, but it is best performed by those who have been trained in an accredited CPR course. The procedures described here are not a substitute for CPR training.

All parents and those who take care of children should learn infant and child CPR if they haven't already. This jewel of knowledge is something no parent should be without. (See www.americanheart.org for classes near you.)

Time is very important when dealing with an unconscious infant who is not breathing. Permanent brain damage begins after only 4 minutes without oxygen, and death can occur in as little as 4 - 6 minutes later.

Causes

In infants, major reasons that heartbeat and breathing stop include drowning, suffocation, choking, head trauma or serious injury, excessive bleeding, electrical shock, poisoning, and lung disease.

Symptoms

First Aid

The following steps are based on instructions from the American Heart Association.

Check for responsiveness. Shake or tap the infant gently. See if the infant moves or makes a noise. Shout, "Are you OK?"
If there is no response, shout for help. Send someone to call 911. Do not leave the infant yourself to call 911 until you have performed CPR for about 2 minutes.
Carefully place the infant on their back. If there is a chance the infant has a spinal injury, two people should move the infant to prevent the head and neck from twisting.
Open the airway. Lift up the chin with one hand. At the same time, tilt the head by pushing down on the forehead with the other hand.
Look, listen, and feel for breathing. Place your ear close to the infant's mouth and nose. Watch for chest movement. Feel for breath on your cheek.
If the infant is not breathing:
- Cover the infant's mouth and nose tightly with your mouth.
- Alternatively, cover just the nose. Hold the mouth shut.
- Keep the chin lifted and head tilted.
- Give 2 rescue breaths. Each breath should take about a second and make the chest rise.
Perform chest compressions:
- Place 2 fingers on the breastbone -- just below the nipples. Make sure not to press at the very end of the breastbone.
- Keep your other hand on the infant's forehead, keeping the head tilted back.
- Press down on the infant's chest so that it compresses about 1/3 to 1/2 the depth of the chest.
- Give 30 chest compressions. Each time, let the chest rise completely. These compressions should be FAST and hard with no pausing. Count the 30 compressions quickly: "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30, off."
Give the infant 2 more breaths. The chest should rise.
Continue CPR (30 chest compressions followed by 2 breaths, then repeat) for about 2 minutes.
After about 2 minutes of CPR, if the infant still does not have normal breathing, coughing, or any movement, leave the infant if you are alone and call 911.
Repeat step 9 until the infant recovers or help arrives.

If the infant starts breathing again, place him or her in the recovery position. Periodically re-check for breathing until help arrives.

Do Not

Lift the infant's chin while tilting the head back to move the tongue away from the windpipe. If a spinal injury is suspected, pull the jaw forward without moving the head or neck. Don't let the mouth close.
If the infant has signs of normal breathing, coughing, or movement, DO NOT begin chest compressions. Doing so may cause the heart to stop beating.
Unless you are a health professional, DO NOT check for a pulse. Only a health care professional is properly trained to check for a pulse.

Call immediately for emergency medical assistance if

If you have help, tell one person to call 911 while another person begins CPR.
If you are alone, shout loudly for help and begin CPR. After doing CPR for about 2 minutes, if no help has arrived, call 911. You may carry the infant with you to the nearest phone (unless you suspect spinal injury).

Prevention

Unlike adults, who often require CPR because of a heart attack, most children need CPR because of a preventable accident.

Never underestimate what a infant can do. Play it safe and assume the child is more mobile and more dexterous than you thought possible. Never leave an infant unattended on a bed, table, or other surface from which the infant could roll. Always use safety straps on high chairs and strollers. Never leave a infant in a mesh playpen with one side down.

Start teaching your infant the meaning of "Don't touch." The earliest safety lesson is "No!"

Choose age-appropriate toys. Do not give infants toys that are heavy or fragile. Inspect toys for small or loose parts, sharp edges, points, loose batteries, and other hazards.

Create a safe environment and supervise children carefully, particularly around water and near furniture. Dangers such as electrical outlets, stove tops, and medicine cabinets are attractive to small children.

To reduce the risk of choking accidents, make sure small children can not reach buttons, watch batteries, popcorn, coins, grapes, or nuts. It is also important to sit with an infant while he or she eats. Do not allow an infant to crawl around while eating or drinking from a bottle.

Never tie pacifiers, jewelry, chains, bracelets, or anything else around an infant's neck or wrists.

Totally Geeky or Geek Chic? The Cell Phone Bracelet

Feast your eyes on this - the jewel encrusted e-mobile cell phone/bracelet combo. This concept was developed by the Chinese designer Tao Ma for the 2006 Lite-On Corporation awards. It has volume adjust buttons, an earphone jack, manual pick up and hang up buttons and it can play MP3 music (no joke). This bracelet works by vibrating when you get a call or message and it opens up like a regular phone to talk. Don't get overly excited, the e-mobile doesn't support bluetooth and is minus a screen, so you can kiss your caller ID goodbye. My phone is practically a bracelet since it's constantly attached to my hand, but I don't know how I'd feel if it actually was! And doesn't this phone sorta remind you of handcuffs? Let me know your thoughts!
