Sarah Jessica Parker Shines Brighter Off Screen

She's a fashion icon for an entire generation of women, and when she's not making headlines for her clothing choices - both on and off the television and movie screens - Sarah Jessica Parker prides herself on her urban family life.

While fans may love her best for playing Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw on both the small and large screens, Parker's role as mom to James Wilkie, 6, is the one that she cherishes. Often seen taking her son to school or palling around New York City with him, she said that she loves "to do everything with him as long as he will have me around . . . brushing his teeth with him is enjoyable right now." So it is no wonder that Parker and husband Matthew Broderick recently announced that they are expecting two new additions to the family - twin daughters - via a surrogate.

Though James Wilkie may sport hand-me-downs from his uncle, we hope the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador's daughters will have the opportunity to rifle through their mama's closet when they are older.

Sarah Jessica Dresses Up and Everyone Signs Onto SATC2!

The closest Carrie Bradshaw got to magazine editing was writing freelance for Vogue, but inside the March issue of Harper's Bazaar Sarah Jessica Parker channels the look of legendary editor of both publications, Diana Vreeland, for a photo shoot. SJP sat down to chat about her new trio of upcoming fragrances, her family and her fashion. Here's more:

On fashion: "I don’t have the Carrie Bradshaw passion and devotion to it, but I would much prefer that life would allow for a beautiful shoe all day long. To stand in Mr. de la Renta’s atelier and have him build a dress on you, that is amazing. And honestly, it's a great honor to be able to borrow something that weighs 40 pounds and requires three people to help you walk."
On what she can't live without: "My son! My husband! Food! Oh, fashion? I don’t know. A good bra?"
On regretting her black wedding dress and wanting to wear white if she gets a do-over: "I’m not kidding. White it up. I’d wear a beautiful, proper wedding dress, like I should have worn on the day. James Wilkie's teacher is getting married, and he said, 'Do you think she will be wearing black?' I said, 'No! I can almost assure you.' Then he said, 'Do you still regret it?' and I said, 'Yes, I still regret it.'"
Some advice from SJP: "Don't surround yourself with bodyguards and SUVs, and return everything you are loaned in the shape in which you received it - unless you have to cut yourself out of it! Return jewelry, return bags, clean out the bags! I would say, try to be kind. I know what it’s like to get up the courage to approach somebody, to tell them how much you admire them. Why don't you . . . be decent?"

SJP is focusing on her fragrances at the moment, but she'll soon get back into Carrie's couture as she and the other ladies of SATC just officially signed on for the sequel!

Carrie and Mr. Big Are Still Sweet in the City

In March we got a peek at Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth at work on this Annie Leibovitz photoshoot, and now here's the gorgeous final product! The duo shot this spread for June Vogue, and judging from how much chemistry they have, it wasn't hard for these two to get back into their Sex and the City characters for the photos. In the issue, SJP discusses fashion, style, and one of the few things she and Carrie Bradshaw have in common. Here are highlights:

On how she is similar to Carrie: "We will both try anything. I will try anything for Carrie, and I will try anything for me. In real life I never dressed the way she dressed, nor would I. I grew up in a house of matching. You know, our hair ribbons matched our dress, and our pinafore matched our socks. You didn't clash colors. What I learned by being around Pat Field was there shouldn't be rules in fashion. Things shouldn't go together. And that's the thing that really changed in my own world and the way I choose to dress."
On being trendy: "Aren't we all supposed to be a little bit the victim of trends? I can look back at pictures of myself with the great assurance that I will be embarrassed by about 60 percent of them. This is the nature of fashion-admiring the wrong girl, you know, looking at the wrong picture, wishing you were somebody else. And that's the developmentally correct thing."
On Carrie's style: "I would wear anything as Carrie Bradshaw if I thought it would be good for the story. The bits and pieces, and the stuff people object to. And that's Carrie-hits and misses mean nothing to her."

Judging from her hat at the London premiere of the movie last night, SJP has more than a little of Carrie's style in her. We're already planning our outfits for our SF screening - don't forget to enter to win a trip to attend - but we really can't wait to see what SJP pulls out for the NYC red carpet!

Christian Lacroix Says Adieu to His Painfully Chic Paris Pad

I have died and gone to real estate heaven. Haute couturier Christian Lacroix has put his 2,150-square-foot apartment in the tragically hip and fashion-centric Marais district of Paris on the market for nearly $2.6 million. I couldn't help but snoop around for photos, and I almost wish I hadn't: the pad has the unrivaled style of a Carrie Bradshaw ensemble and is plush with original Parisian details such as gilded moldings and French doors opening onto petite balconies. It's also steps from the Picasso Museum and Place des Vosges, the oldest square in Paris. Apparently Monsieur Lacroix has already moved to another apartment in the 'hood; why he'd want to, I don't know. But, I'm sure Lacroix will carry his theatrical style - and fabulous furnishings - wherever he goes. Check out photos of la maison when you read more.

A Few Fab Words With Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker

They say, save the best for last. Sorry to keep you waiting, but it will all be worth it once you hear what SJP had to say about the Sex and the City movie wardrobe. From the very beginning, Carrie was the fashion maverick, the one who dared to wear anything and everything. Her style rebellion paid off in the end because the name Carrie Bradshaw will forever be uttered by the mouths of millions. Oh, how I will miss seeing her innovative outfits. Sniff.

Did you get to keep everything from the movie?

Everything that wasn’t borrowed. It's archived, and I had done that over the course of the series, which had really been beneficial actually, because when we had to go back in and shoot, and shoot that montage of all that stuff it was really great to have Carrie's closet available for that moving out stuff. There was a time that the montage included all of the women in my clothes dancing around and they really did put on my character’s outfits from those times. And I had actually archived a lot of the furniture, so it was kind of nice to have, as ludicrous as it may sound.

What are you wearing today, head to toe?

Hair is my own; dress is Lanvin; belt is my own, old Yves Saint Laurent; necklace, earrings Fred Leighton; shoes are Proenza Schouler; and some vintage bracelets from the thrift store.

Can’t pick one, won’t. I love that belt though. Favorite child?

Did Carrie’s fashion change or evolve? Any input on the role of fashion in the movie?

It changed just the way we all change as we get older. Most of these women in the movie now really are not on the market, so they just dress differently. You get older and you just feel differently about it, I do. I see the connective tissue between then and now. It is more mature. It still demonstrates a love affair for fashion. I was part of the conversation to the degree that I started begging Pat to come back in May, and then in June and then July, because she was booked on all of these other shows. But that didn’t stop me; we started talking about wedding dresses in June because we knew how complicated that would be. I am part of the conversation but she is great storyteller with clothes. We call her the wizard because you end up trying anything on for her, even the most ridiculous and insane thing, and generally it is two in the morning and you are just so beaten down by then. But she is just great, she is amazing and we really couldn’t have done it without her.

Where do you find your confidence?

I don’t really have much. I think anything that is associated with this movie, this show I just feel I have unique and very special relationship with it. I was trying to explain earlier today that it's kind of like I would rather be cold and look good, I would rather wear heels and run down the block for fourteen hours and in six months see it on the screen and think yeah, it should have been heels running down the street running after that cab. Or, rather put, if I’m taken away from my child and I’m making this choice, I would rather put every ounce of myself into something; I can sleep June 12th. Michael and I, I think it is one of the many reasons I love him and we work so well together, is that we don‘t want to waste anyone’s time. A lot of people have put their faith and their time and their talent and their money in our hands, and that is every reason to work. Michael is always like, I will pull you bleeding across that finish line. And I’m like, I’m going to be in full stride buddy. You have to be a thoroughbred about it if you care.

Was the jewelry your own on Oprah?

The jewelry on Oprah were from VBH and Fred Leighton. And the dress was Mr. [Oscar] del la Renta. I had to give it back to him.

SJP Might Be Back in Carrie's Manolos Soon

Sarah Jessica Parker piled on the layers and left only a little bit of James Wilkie visible walking in NYC today. In the heart of Winter, Carrie Bradshaw might be wearing something a little more flashy and we may be getting another taste of that fashion soon. There's been talk of a Sex and the City movie sequel since the first one came out, with Kim Cattrall going as far as confirming the news, and apparently they're inching toward a real deal. The latest is that the ladies have all agreed to star in a new film, although contracts haven't been signed yet. We'll wait to hear the official announcement before we toast our cosmos but it could be exciting to see the four women - and their men - back on the big screen.

A Few Fab Words With the Newest Sex and the City Star, Jennifer Hudson

At a recent press junket, the stars of the Sex and the City movie spilled everything we want to hear about their characters, on-screen wardrobes, as well as their personal style. I know you're dying to hear what the veteran foursome had to say, but let's first start with newcomer Jennifer Hudson.

Did you take away any new fashion tips?

It was amazing working with her [Patricia Field]. That was an experience in itself, just watching her work. She sits at the desk so carelessly, and just says, give me that, throw that with this, and this with that, and comes up with this huge concoction of a Sex and the City outfit that is fabulous. You’re sitting there like, "OK, I didn’t know you could put those shoes with that and that color with this," and it's just a whole brand new level of fashion to me. It definitely makes you want to experiment and that’s what I try to do.

Are you going to get a lifetime supply of rent-a-bags [from Bag Borrow or Steal]?

You know what? I hope so. I’m thinking if you all write about it, then maybe that will happen!

What was your first designer bag and pair of shoes?

I know my first designer bag was Dooney and Bourke, if that counts. I can’t remember shoes. I have so many bags and so many pairs of shoes I could open a store. I have to move out of myself because I have too many pairs. I wear them if I have to, but I’m not a shoe fan at all. I love bags. My top bags are my Jimmy Choo, my Valentino, and my YSL; those three are my favorites.

Do you do a lot of shopping while you are in NY?

Yes, I do. I have a shopping problem. I need Carrie Bradshaw’s closet, the one that’s in the movie. That’s exactly what I need. And it's still not enough. So I need one just for my shoes, and one for all my clothes. Now I have to move out of my house because I have too many clothes. In this business, you can really only wear it once. So once I wear something, and then it's like, I’ll hold onto this, and then before you know it, it piles up and piles up.

On Our Radar: Patricia Field for M&S

The Sex and the City Movie has just come out on DVD which is allowing us all to relive our fashion fantasies through our favourite New York ladies. Well, if the wardrobe has left you longing for Carrie's style then fear not as Patricia Field has the answer! Today her long awaited collaboration with High Street store Marks and Spencer is revealed and I am very impressed by the pieces.

Field has essentially recreated the looks from the movie at an affordable price (including that belt) and it's perfect timing for the party season. The collection seems to be aimed at a younger clientele than normal for M&S with a sequined catsuit (£99) and an uber-short strapless dress (£35). Although some of the other pieces are definitely more flexible.

You can check out the full collection here but if you're already a fan of Field/Carrie Bradshaw you will definitely end up spending a pound of two. I am currently torn between the teal dress (£75) and the sequined top (£75). As always, let me know what you think!
