Animated Anthony Bourdain Stars in Cartoon Show

If you can't get enough of Anthony Bourdain, know that there'll soon be even more to love. The food industry's most opinionated figure is now getting his own cartoon series.

The six-part animated web series, titled Anthony Bourdain's Alternate Universe, will reveal Bourdain's "personal and unique view of the world that lives in his imagination." It's arrived out of thin air, even beating Gordon Ramsay's animated show to the punch. The first line in the trailer below? "If you've ever wondered what really goes on inside his head, you can stop."

Actually, I haven't. I already know the bad-boy chef's tiresome schtick, and it's not nearly as esoteric as everybody thinks it is. In some sort of . . . well, alternate universe, perhaps this cartoon would make more sense. Watch the trailer and share your thoughts after the break.

Jonah Hill Gets Animated!

Seth MacFarlane is the cartoon king right now - Family Guy is still going strong, and its spinoff The Cleveland Show has already been picked up for a second season. But could Jonah Hill give him a run for his money?

The funny guy best known for his roles as the slacker friend is developing an animated show for Fox. Hill is co-writing and voicing the series, which will center around a smarty-pants 7-year-old who gets a culture shock when his parents send him to public school.

I know you guys are mixed about whether Hill has romantic leading man potential when it comes to movies, but I think this sounds like the perfect project for him. How hilarious will it be to hear him as a snarky kid? Plus, I'm semi-curious to see how his comedic writing stacks up when he's not paired with a Rogen, Cera, or Sandler.

What do you make of this news? Will you tune in?

Dressing Up the Darlings as Cartoon Characters

If mama thinks it's tough to pry her wee one away from <a href="http://lilsugar.com/tags/halloween+costume" href=http://lilsugar.com/tag/elmo">Elmo or Dora on the boob tube, try getting them out of their 'toon-inspired Halloween costumes.

Youngsters will be beside themselves when they discover they can emulate their tiny heroes Dora and Diego. If they fancy furry fellows, the Care Bears, Elmo or Cookie Monster may be more up their alley. Tots who enjoy the spelling and musical shows may find their cup of tea in the Super WHY, Little Einstein, or Doodlebops gear.

Take a pic of your wee one in their costume and post it to our Sugarbabies group over in the LilSugar Community! Your little darlings could be featured on the site.

What's Your Take on Thomas the Tank Engine?

If there is one "boy" who has captured my daughter's heart, it is Thomas the Tank Engine. For whatever reason, most children fawn over the blue train and his entourage of carts. Though they lack much animation, the steely pals have made quite a name for themselves. Reminiscent of bits of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, the show Thomas and Friends is easy on the eyeballs, but some of the lessons can be a tad harsh.

The trains frequently irritate each other making frowns and grimaces, a common site on the show. On the plus side, tots can learn about emotions and conflict resolution as things always work out in the end. Other shows like Dragon Tales, Super WHY, Sesame Street, and Berenstain Bears do wonders in teaching kids lessons without all the complaining so some mothers ban the rails from their children's viewing. I let my babe watch her beloved Thomas. After all, it is nothing compared to the Tom & Jerry cartoons I watched as a wee one. What's your take on the cartoon?

Why is it that so many celebrities resemble other celebrities? (I'm looking at you, Kristen Bell, Jennifer Aniston, and Lo Bosworth!) More importantly, though, why do so many celebrities look like muppets, cats, and cartoon characters? See some of my favorites by clicking "start slideshow."

Buzz In: What Was Your Favorite Childhood Cartoon?

The news of the Smurfs turning 50 this week has gotten me thinking about other favorite cartoons of my childhood. I used to love waking up super-early (I know!) to sneak in a few hours of cartoons before school or weekend activities, and I was particularly fond of She-Ra: Princess of Power and Jem and the Holograms. For a while, there were some great after-school cartoons going on, too, including DuckTales! What was your favorite?

Artist Shows True Consequences of Brutal Bugs Cartoons

Ah, Saturday morning. That blissful time formerly devoted exclusively to cartoons, though what happened? Cartoon Network, did you have to ruin everything? Even though Bugs, Daffy, and their pals might not be standard pancake breakfast companions anymore, given this new less-than-appetizing art show at London's Aquarium gallery, that might be a good thing.

You know how Elmer Fudd was always hunting ducks, and Daffy's bill was constantly getting blown to the back of his head? Artist James Cauty does - and he's re-imagined all of the faux-cartoon violence, with realistic gory consequences. The artist says, "People have been saying since the 60's that cartoons should show the consequences of violence, or kids will get the wrong idea. It's very difficult to shock kids these days - you have cartoon characters being shot in the head and walking off cliffs, so we have decided to replace them with something more realistic."

That realism includes a work showing the cat Sylvester having taken a bite out of Tweety, with a generous amount of blood, and Tom the cat chopping Jerry the mouse into small pieces in a pool of . . . Jerry's insides. Is this appropriate for kids? To see what the artist says, read more.

The idea for the show came from just such a kid - his own son. He says, "The idea actually came from my 15-year-old son, who suggested I do some artwork showing what cartoons are really like by showing their real consequences." In his estimation, it's fine for kids: "I'm a parent myself, and if I saw pictures like that I would think of something kids would really love, because it's no-holds-barred violence." The gallery owner says so far kids have gone bananas over it. "Kids were very excited by it all, which is interesting because art is never normally aimed at children. It should be a very successful show, and will raise lots of questions about violence in the media and in our culture."
