LC Maybe Has Another Show Coming and Her Heart Belongs to Fashion, but She and Lo Love Robert Pattinson Too

Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth were attached at the hip on their way into the A Time For Heroes celebrity carnival in LA yesterday afternoon. While Lauren spent her time chatting about her upcoming book tour, she did admit that of all her projects, "fashion will always have my heart." LC also revealed that they're already thinking about making the books into a TV series and who she would want to play the lead. The girls have caught the Twilight fever - saying that seeing the boys was the highlight of the MTV Movie Awards and, as we gear up to announce the 2009 PopSugar 100, predicting that anyone from the blockbuster movie had the biggest year. Lo even reminisced about interviewing Robert Pattinson before he became such a big star, lucky girl. Lots more from their interview in the video and after the jump!

LC on her book tour: "In about a week I go all around the country on a book tour. I stopped filming about two months ago and I've been waiting for my vacation, but it hasn’t come yet. . . Also, I have like two more chapters left to write in my second book." As for the plot hitting close to home, "LA Candy is about a girl on a reality show." She joked, "I just made it up basically, but [it's not a biography] it's a teen series. We've talked about [making it into] a TV series."
LC on who would she want to play the lead role: "I feel like I would do an undiscovered. I would probably cast someone who doesn't have a name yet because the whole story is dealing with falling into that world and I think that it kind of helps when an actress is going through a similar experience as her character." As for the love interest, "I don't know! We’d find a hottie. That would be a fun casting call."
Highlights from the MTV Awards: Lo: "I was excited to see all the Twilight guys and to see the New Moon sneak peek." LC: "Andy Samburg was amazing. He was one of the best hosts I've ever seen. It was good."
LC on who had the biggest year: "Anyone in Twilight."
Lo on Robert Pattinson: "I’ve met him. I interviewed him actually at the VMAs last year. I did red carpet for the CBS morning show, so he was one of my interviews. It was before Twilight came out and my editor was talking to me about it and I was like, 'I don’t even know what Twilight is,' and look how he's blown up!"
Lo on becoming a TV host: "I'm excited. The thing is, for The Hills I've never really shared very much of myself and [hosting] I still won't have to share very much of myself. That's what I'm comfortable with, so I'm excited for it." And her dream show, "I would love to do like a younger version of The View."

Some celebs have such fascinating lives they bring out more than one autobiography, and that's the case with Jade Goody and Jordan/Katie Price, whose latest installment is outselling Gordon Brown's book by the thousands!

Finally, I've got books written by those who know the stars best: their family. Choose from Christopher Ciccone's book on his sister Madonna, Lynne Spears' revelations about Britney, or Tony Cowell's version of his brother Simon Cowell's diaries.

Want to Be Fly on McCain Camp Wall? Pick up NYT Mag

This weekend's NYT Magazine piece on the making and remaking of John McCain reads like a Greek tragedy. "John McCain’s biography has been the stuff of legend for nearly a decade," the lengthy piece points out. "And yet Schmidt and his fellow strategists have had difficulty explaining how America will be better off for electing (as opposed to simply admiring) a stubborn patriot." Throughout the magazine piece, a litany of narratives are identified.

The Heroic Fighters vs. the Quitters: Steve Schmidt, McCain's top adviser, encouraged McCain to denounce the Democrats for advocating a withdrawal of troops - a kind of surrender in the face of victory. Thus did Schmidt initiate the No Surrender Tour late in the summer of 2007.
Country-First Deal Maker vs. Nonpartisan Pretender: The campaign was in the throes of an identity crisis by June 24, when a number of senior strategists gathered at 9:30 a.m. in a conference room of McCain’s campaign headquarters in Arlington. As one participant said later, the meeting was convened “because we still couldn’t answer the question, ‘Why elect John McCain?'"
Leader vs. Celebrity: Eventually, it was Schmidt who blurted out the epiphany concerning Obama. “Face it, gentlemen,” he said. “He’s being treated like a celebrity.” The others grasped the concept - a celebrity like J-Lo! or Britney! - and exultation overtook the room.
Team of Mavericks vs. Old-Style Washington: Well before McCain made his selection, his chief strategist and his campaign manager both concluded that Sarah Palin would be the most dynamic pick.
John McCain vs. John McCain: The flipside to John McCain’s metanarrative of personal valor has always been palpable self-righteousness. In this campaign, his sense of integrity has been doubly offended.
The Fighter (Again) vs. the Tax-and-Spend Liberal: McCain was once again a warrior - only more upbeat, more respectful of his opponent, more empathetic to suffering Americans and far more disapproving of the president.

Keira And Costars Deal With The Duchess Diana Connection

When I met the stars of The Duchess, Keira Knightley, Dominic Cooper and Hayley Atwell were happy to spill about the sex scenes in the film. Another hot topic was the Diana connection. Keira's character, Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire, is an ancestor of Princess Diana and there are parallels between the women's complicated marriages. The trailer makes the link explicit, but what do the actors and the director, Saul Dibb, think about the parallels? They told me all about it.

Much has been made of the Diana parallels. How aware of them were you, and how conscious were you of communicating them through the film?

SD - Amanda Foreman’s book, which never actually referenced Diana specifically, every review of that book drew those parallels. I think in the making of the film those parallels didn’t bear any relation to what we were doing. We were trying to make a film about people in their own right, and trying to nail their relationships in as true a way as we possibly could to their relationships with each other, and not their external relationships to anybody else.

So it was never once something that we talked about as a reference for us, or anything that might influence the actors or the approach. The parallels are straight forward and obvious, and out in the public domain.

Keira, did you feel any parallels between your story and the story of Princess Diana?

KK - I was 11 when Diana died so I really don’t know what the actual story is, so I don’t feel that I can comment on the parallels. I think I was definitely aware of the images. I knew when I was going in to it that she was a distant relation, but actually that’s as far as my knowledge goes.

As Saul said, I was very much making a film about Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire, and I think she’s an interesting enough person to warrant a film completely about her and without comparisons.

Saul, the inscription on the poster “there were three people in her marriage” [above] is a very direct reference to Diana, how do you feel about that?

SD - The reality is there’s the filmmakers, which is all of us making the film, and then there’s the marketing of the film afterwards; they’re two different things. We had the freedom to make our film, they have the freedom to market the film. It cost them a lot of money and they want to get as wide as audience in. All they’ve done is made explicit what would have been written about by everybody anyway and in a sense they’ve cut out the middleman and gone directly to it.

It doesn’t represent us and our approach to the film, but for them to make that choice is up to them and if it gets more people in to see the film, which stands on its own, then perhaps they’re right [laughter]. But I don’t think any of us would feel that that is …

KK -It certainly wasn’t a reason for me to make the film anyway.

SD -It’s just a marketing device.

There are many other parallels between them, like the celebrity culture surrounding Georgiana, this woman living her life in the public eye...

SD - There are parallels, but parallels could be drawn with any number of particularly tragic female figures. Marilyn Monroe you could pick on, and you could find lots of parallels. It’s purely because of the ancestral link that I think people are so keen to draw that one.

Did you use physical artifacts to help in your understanding of the characters and their relationships?

SD - The basic facts of their relationships are documented and what actually happens in these private bedrooms and hallways is the stuff of our creative imagining. So what you’re trying to do is get the essence.

KK - I think that’s right. I think fundamentally at some point you have to put the biography away and you have to stick to the script. It is a dramatisation, it isn’t a … democracy? What am I trying to say? [laughter] What are they called? Documentary! Thank you so much.

So you do just have to tell the story that you’re trying to tell. You have to let your own imagination go as well. It’s great to be able to read all these things, to be able to read their actual letters, and you can kind of mull it all over and have it in the back of your head, but fundamentally you have to stick to the script.

Is there any more pressure to do them justice than a fictional character?

HA - Personally speaking, no, because you’re given a job and your job is to make an interpretation of a character that’s in the script or that has been living, and to work hard enough to feel like you’re doing it justice.

If you’re playing someone that has lived there’s the risk of imitation. Do you focus more on the essence on who that character was as opposed to the physical mannerisms, or what is it ultimately that this particular adaptation of a story, whether it’s fiction or not, is trying to say, and the dynamic between the characters as a story, as opposed to trying to imitate something.

KK - I’d agree.

DC - Yeah, much more terrifying to try to imitate someone who’s actually alive now, that’s more difficult.

SD - There is lots of information but it’s largely incomplete and you have to take with a pinch of salt large amounts of the information that you have for those people. So you just have to trust the performances and the instincts to create the piece of drama that works.

I certainly think the films stands on its own, without the Diana connection, and it was fascinating to hear about the differing angles that the filmmakers and the marketing department have taken. The stars of the film will be in London's Leicester Square tonight for the premiere, and I'll be bringing you all the gossip and photos from that tomorrow. Jordan and J. K. Roll on Down to the British Book Awards

Jordan and J. K. Rowling may not usually hang out together, but wordsmiths and celebrities rubbed shoulders last night at the Galaxy British Book Awards at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. The "Nibbies", hosted by Richard & Judy, saw a number of famous faces hand out the prizes, including Geri Halliwell and Richard Attenborough (love him!). While Jordan missed out on her category, J. K. Rowling received the Outstanding Achievement Award and a video message from Gordon Brown, which seems to be the Prime Minister's favourite method of communication at the moment. A number of nominated celebs missed out on the prizes, including Nigella Lawson, but Russell Brand (who was in LA) won the biography category. Siting!
