Screening for Sickle Cell Disease
The United States Preventive Services Task Force’s 2007 guidelines recommend that all newborn infants be screened for sickle cell disease. (In the United States, most states require hospitals to perform this test.) Early detection of sickle cell disease ensures that babies will be given treatment to prevent infections. Sickle cell disease is an inherited condition.

I know I have a tendency to go on about beautiful new devices and hot new Nintendo DSi colors, but at the end of the day, I know that we are all in this financial crisis together.
Yesterday I created a list of six websites to help you better manage your finances, and today I wanted to share some more useful tools and sites that will help job seekers search for employment opportunities.
If you don't have Internet access, but you do have a laptop or cell phone with WiFi connectivity, OpenWiFiSpots provides a directory of over 24,647 free WiFi hotspots in the US.

As far as I'm concerned MTV's new teenage reality show Newport Harbor will never rival Laguna Beach, or The Hills in the drama or glamor departments, but it might give both shows a run for their money when it comes to number of cell phone and gadgets scenes in each episode. I was flipping through channels the other day and can confirm what communication experts have been saying for months: Teens don't need e-mail, cause they text message.
After a little research (no, I couldn't sit through an episode, but I could do some internet searching) I learned Chrissy has cell phone issues cause her father always calls to check up on her.

If you are planning to travel across the border this holiday season, there are some tricks of the trade when it comes to GSM (global system for mobile communications) cell phones and long distance calling.
- Calls to voice mail when roaming internationally are billed at international rates.
- When you are abroad and turn on your wireless phone, it will automatically search for a wireless network. Registration usually occurs within 30-40 seconds.

Forget "ringing" like a cell phone — this bird has even more amazing things come out of his mouth. When the African grey parrot was found and rescued two weeks ago in Nagareyama, Japan, the officials promptly brought him into the police station and were about to start the interrogation process. Turns out this bird was just not talking .

The Transportation "Security" Administration might have to rethink its name after it misplaced a laptop containing all of the unencrypted data from 33,000 people who've enrolled in the TSA Clear program for over a week. The info in question includes names and passport, driver's license, and green card numbers — you know, the important stuff.
The laptop belonged to the private company Verified Identity Pass, which runs the program that allows passengers to pay a fee and register to clear security faster in 17 different states.

My first experience with Google Mobile SMS (Beta) occurred last week when my boyfriend and I needed a phone number for a restaurant to order take-out. Since I didn't have my Blackberry with me we didn't have internet access, so my boyfriend suggested we text message Google for help. It was amazing!

Apparently, Starbucks receives thousands of calls each year from thirsty coffee drinks in search of the nearest coffee spot. Now, the caffeine-craving masses can send a text message with the area's zip code to MYSBUX (or 697289), and a list of nearby Starbucks stores will pop back. Customers using mobile devices with Web access will find a store locater by typing Starbucks.com.
