It was a fashion explosion last night at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. Designers, models, editors, photographers, and muses gathered in NYC to see who would win the grand prize — $200,000 and a year of mentoring. Presenters included Lanvin's Alber Elbaz and Nicole Kidman, while Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg played hostesses.

Last night the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards dinner took place bringing together some very stylish faces and models. The prestigious prize was scooped by Sophie Theallet. Alber Elbaz presented the award to her which included $200,000 and a one-year mentorship with fashion professionals.

Last night, the CFDA gathered around the stone at a town meeting where industry leaders discussed the future of the fashion industry. The debate was whether fashion shows should be targeted towards consumers or the industry. “We design for the consumer, and right now, I believe the consumer is completely confused,” said Donna Karan.

The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund top-10 nominees have been announced and it's filled with major talent. The wide range of genius includes eco-conscious creators, Monique Pean and Alabama Chanin's Natalie Chanin, edgy designers Flora Gill and Alexa Adams of Ohne Titel, and even men's footwear extraordinaire, George Esquivel for Esquivel Shoes — stiff competition! The chosen one and two runners-up will be announced at the annual gala on Nov.

Considering Nicky Hilton consistently wore Matthew Williamson for H&M before it came out, I'm not surprised that she's the first celebrity to jump on the Gap CFDA Design Editions line. Girl knows her fashion. She recently went out in LA wearing Vena Cava's Khaki Zip Dress ($88).

Tonight is the 2009 CFDA awards — we can't wait to hear this year's winners. For those of us not in the fashion inner circle, we can have a piece of the awards via khakis; Gap's CFDA Design Edition Khakis hits stores and online tomorrow. The ads proved khakis can be fun.

When CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg asked creative director Trey Laird to "Capture fashion — do something fabulous," for its 2009 CFDA nominees photo shoot, Laird took it to a whole new level. Instead of using models, he decided to feature the designers wearing their own work — hence Jason Wu in his green gown. The photos, shot by Craig McDean at Milk Studios, feature all of the nominees sporting their creations in fun ways; for instance, Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez donned their handbags as boxing gloves, and Marc Jacobs sported bunny ears.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced the nominees for the 2009 awards and it's filled with some of our favorite designers. Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, and Jason Wu will be vying for a womenswear award while Calvin Klein Collection’s Italo Zucchelli, Michael Bastian, and Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders compete for the menswear accolade. The CFDA will also be honoring First Lady

If you need a 2009 calendar, let me suggest the most fashionable out there: the W Hotels/CFDA 2009 Calendar ($15). What makes this more special than others? For one, it's designed to look like a sketchbook, includes blank sketch pages, and has room to hold a pencil.
