Here in San Francisco, we have a grocery store we call "Singles Safeway" or "DateWay." Located in the singles-populated Marina district, this store has a reputation as one of the city's best pickup spots. A friend of mine swears the cereal aisle is happening, while the feminine products area — not so much.

The beloved National Zoo panda took a one-way direct flight from Dulles to Chengdu, China (in that nifty crate) this morning. Sad.
There's no passport necessary as this US-born babe is headed home to meet some pretty female pandas, fingers crossed.

Government censors in China are once again targeting the Internet, restricting citizens' access to online content. The latest restrictions include more than 700 entertainment sites; many offered free downloads of TV shows, movies, and music. Authorities say the latest restrictions are meant to protect children from inappropriate sites, curb piracy and illegal file sharing, and to make it harder for scams to surface online.

I love to give handmade gifts, whether I make them myself or buy them from another crafter. It's much more personal, not to mention one-of-a-kind. And, to ease my eco conscience, it helps that the gifts are made from repurposed materials.

A stone carving of President Obama is on sale in Shanghai, China, along with carvings of celebrities like Will Smith, Tom Cruise, and Katie Holmes. Obama will be meeting with both ordinary citizens and Chinese leaders in Shanghai and Beijing starting today. As you can tell from these photos, creative vendors in China are ready to capitalize on Obama's visit.

Condoms might top the list of things that should never be counterfeited. Unfortunately, there may be as many as one million ineffective knock-off condoms on the market in China right now.
Four people were arrested this week at a factory allegedly producing and selling condoms that provide little to no protection against disease or pregnancy.

Bringing back memories of last Summer's epic Olympic opening ceremony, China went all out to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the communist state. While thousands celebrated the red revolution today, those who did not take part faced tight crackdowns. In fact, gatherings in cities other than Beijing and Hong Kong were banned, as were divorces!
