Nicole, Naomi, and Jessica Are Women Dining For Women

Nicole Kidman and her pal Naomi Watts were together last night in NYC for the "Important Dinner for Women" at Cipriani's. They were joined by famous faces like Wendi Murdoch and Liya Kebede for the event, which followed a day of meetings at the UN about issues affecting women of the world. The meal was hosted by Queen Rania of Jordan, who mingled with other celebs like Jessica Alba, Naomi Campbell, and Veronica Webb. The ladies' charitable work isn't the only important event going on in the Big Apple presently - Matt Damon joined Bill Clinton at the former president's conference, where Brad Pitt is expected later today.

The international fashion weeks kick off very soon as New York plays host to Spring 2010 shows from 10th September. London will quickly follow suit as the 25th celebrations kick off across the capital, and there might be more than just fashion shows to look forward to.

In September, Yves Saint Laurent will release the fifth edition of the company's manifesto at key fashion capitals around the globe. The 32-page promotional publication (which mainly includes the Autumn campaign) will be handed out in Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Seoul.

If you're one of the first 2,000 recipients in each city you will also get this funky tote designed by Stefano Pilati featuring a leather clad Christy Turlington! Christy is the face of this Autumn's ad campaign where she was shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

The bag and the manifesto will be distributed on 12th September. Although the exact location is yet to be announced, I would expect to find people around Piccadilly Circus, Bond Street and Oxford Circus. Will you be trying to get your hands on this cool tote?

Christy Turlington Just Wants to Feed People

Christy Turlington happily posed for photos with her husband Ed Burns and their children for the August issue of Vogue. She took a break from her rigorous schedule of studying for a master's in public health and working on a documentary about maternal issues to chat with the magazine about her life. Christy opened up about her philanthropic causes and how her priorities have changed since her modeling days. She said:

On her childhood: "I skipped that self-critical place that's dangerous for any teenager. I kind of figured, If Vogue thinks I look OK, I probably look OK. . . Right away I didn't like the identity of being a full-time model. The cliché of it! The clubs. . . My income surpassed my dad's in my first year of modeling - and my dad made a good living. That puts you in a different place in your family, and the power dynamic shifts. I kind of liked the power in a weird way, but I was confused by it."
On Ed: "There was something about Eddie that was completely good and healthy. He's such an optimist, a relaxed person who doesn't get stressed out. When things don't go the way I plan them, I get more abrupt, not the friendly, open me that the rest of the world sees. He's certainly seen all of my selves. . . It's better to be known than loved. I mean known inside, deeply known. When somebody knows you, they know - it's not ephemeral, it's not a state or a stage."
On her future: "Now I'm 40 and getting this degree, I might be on the cusp of the career that I always wanted. . . I can't justify [shopping for trendy expensive clothes] - honestly, I'd rather feed people."

Fab Ad: Christy Turlington For Yves Saint Laurent Fall '09

For Yves Saint Laurent's Fall '09 campaign, Stefano Pilati channeled the '90s with the help of Christy - no last name needed. Check out the Super, decked out in all black, standing against a simplistic background shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Christy's makeup and shimmery halter jumpsuit are very throwback, very old school - I'm not sure how I feel about it. I wouldn't think twice if someone told me this was torn out of a magazine circa '92. Christy looks like she hasn't aged a day, but the only modern element is the black leather tote. I expected a little more from Pilati; what do you think?

Fab Ad: Bally Fall '09

Brian Atwood is gradually having a heavier hand in Bally's creative vision. Right on. For Fall, the brand stuck with muse Christy Turlington, who is paired up with Oriol Elcacho. According to Atwood, "Christy is simply the perfect Bally woman; graceful, intelligent, and natural; she exudes a sophisticated ease; her sensual beauty is perfectly complemented by Oriol’s strong and confident presence." The scene, shot by Mario Sorrenti, balances architecture with natural simplicity. The couple are striding - sophisticated, at ease, and confident. I can't help but stare at Christy's belted sheer purple print dress. The ads could have more pizazz, but are lovely nonetheless. Thoughts?

Step Inside the Model as Muse Exhibit

Julia Showers Tom With Love and a Few Naughty Words

Tom Hanks was the man of the hour last night at the 36th Film Society of Lincoln Center's Gala in NYC. Rita Wilson sparkled on his arm, while Ron Howard framed the perfect shot of Tom and Julia Roberts. Fresh off her trip to Venice, Charlize couldn't help but gush about Salma Hayek's wedding and how beautiful the bride looked in her gown. Julia got the most attention of the night due to her miniroast of Tom. She teased him about a few of his past movies and used the f-word so many times to describe everything from his wife's body to wearing the same dress as his publicist that Tom called out her potty mouth in his own speech.

I know, Spring has just begun, but the fashion world is always a step, or should I say a season, ahead of the masses. Designers have started choosing faces for their Fall campaigns. Steven Meisel will be snapping Madonna for her second debut for Louis Vuitton; Frida Giannini has chosen Jacquetta Wheeler as the face for her Gucci campaign, which will be shot in London; and Burberry snagged budding stylista Emma Watson for its campaign.
