Go Green! Fashion Your Own Chip Clips

Ever since Party suggested using wine bottles as darling water holders, I've been wanting to share an eco-friendly tip of my own. If you're like me, you've got a surplus of plastic clamped clothes hangers sitting in your closet. I often return hangers to the dry cleaners, as a way to recycle them - but I save the ones with clamps, and turn them into chip clips.

It's beyond easy: carefully twist the clips off (or, if they're soft plastic, you can remove them with a sharp knife), and you've got a useful (and completely free!) clip for chips or anything else that needs preserving in your pantry. Have you ever done this before? What other upcycling or eco-friendly tips do you have for keeping a green kitchen?

Clip 'N' Go: The Key To Fresh Breath

The other day we received a few packs of Aura Clip 'n' Go mints and Clip 'n' Go Gum. The products, which are by New Era Brands, are actually quite clever. They're your typical standard mints and gum, but they're packaged in plastic containers that can snap on to your keychain, backpack, purse etc. Sort of clever considering I spend way too much time digging through my purse looking for gum.

Turns out they're not that bad, just decent, if not somewhat generic. I tasted the peppermint gum, and thought it was quite strong, it definitely kicked my breath way back into the refreshing range. I found out later that it also has teeth whitener in it as an added bonus. While the gum was strong, but pleasant, the mints were a bit so-so. They tasted like your generic mint, and FitSugar thought she might replace the mints with her own. I thought that idea was smart, but I would never get around to doing it. We tasted both the peppermint and the cinnamint flavors, and thought the peppermint was okay, but the cinnamint left a weird aftertaste.

If you're interested, you'll probably be able to find these products in convenience stores, or you can buy a box of 12 mint packs for $19.80. They're available in spearmint, peppermint, cinnamint and sour fruit.

Casa Quickie: Clothes Pins as Bag Clips

Rarely do I actually use clothes pins to hang clothes, but they're great for keeping bags closed - chip bags, cereal bags, you name it. Plus, they're ridiculously cheap: You can get a bag of 50 for less than $4.

Meanwhile, these fancy plastic bag clips from KitchenAid cost $7.99 for a four-pack. Why pay money for a special plastic bag clip when a wooden clothes pin works just as well?

Love It or Hate It? Topshop's Sequined Top Hat Clip

The holidays are all about amping it up, trying looks that aren't part of your everyday routine, and sequins, of course. Recently, while perusing holiday hair accessories, I came across this Sequin Top Hat Clip ($18) from Topshop. It has pearls. It has glitz. It's definitely got a whole lot of kitsch, and I could totally envision it being an appropriate New Year's Eve accessory. What do you think? Does this sparkly top hat have just the right amount of quirkiness, or is it simply too over the top?

Rabid fans everywhere have been waiting for the release of James Cameron's Avatar literally for years, and now there are just a few weeks to go. Back at Comic-Con, I got a long look at the movie, and I have to admit it that I wanted more after 30 minutes of footage. On the other hand, many of my friends and co-workers seem disinterested in the project entirely, especially with so many other anticipated movies hitting the theaters in December (more on that later this week).
