Before the Grammys took over last night, the stars got a chance to get warmed up at Clive Davis's annual pre-party on Saturday night. Whitney Houston gave her all up on stage, along with Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis. Chris and Rihanna looked lovey dovey and happy, just a few hours before his shocking alleged assault. Kanye, Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus looked happy to rub elbows and save their voices for Sunday night as the celebs enjoyed their weekend of amazing music.

Clive Gets the Grammy Party Started . . . With Whitney

Clive Davis helped kick off the Grammys with his annual pre-show party on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton in LA. The appearance of the night was, of course, Whitney Houston who looked fabulous on the red carpet and with her wardrobe change inside. The icon was joined at the party by Lindsay Lohan in seafoam green and Rihanna in a very full-coverage number. Nicole and Joel were pulling double duty coming from the LACMA party to pose with the likes of Fergie and Pete/Ashlee. Miss Carrie Underwood was there with her boyfriend Chace Crawford, but he managed to avoid the cameras. Boo that. Inside, the party-goers were treated to performances from all-star acts like Alicia Keys, the Foo Fighters, Daughtry, and Leona Lewis. At one point Akon and Will.i.am took the stage for singing and backflips. I'm sure they were all home nice and early to get a good night's sleep before last night's Grammys. Suuuure.

The Grammy Awards have come and gone, but before there were winners and losers, Clive Davis threw his annual bash for the beautiful and lucky nominees. Overall, everyone looked gorgeous as Ashlee Simpson continued to morph into someone else entirely (albeit a good looking someone else) and Rihanna showed off those famous curves (the dress may, in fact, be painted on). But seriously girls, can we lay off the Tang-inspired skin tone?

Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party

Can you even imagine the conversations among these girls? Ashlee was there with Pimp Daddy Simpson. Looks like she went back the hair extension look again. Recently she defended her father but I'm sure he planted the seeds. Here's more:

She explains, "(Sister) JESSICA (SIMPSON) and I are very much our own individuals. I'll make my record and not invite him into the studio until I invite him.

"Sure, he'll have an opinion but if I'm like, 'No, I want that song to be on my record' he'll be like 'All right, baby, you got it!'"

The former Baptist minister and adolescent psychologist also avoided giving Simpson a lecture when she was videotaped at a McDonalds outlet intoxicated, asking a fan to kiss her feet and climbing on the counter.

She says, "My dad could have been really mean to me about that, and he was so nice. He treated me like an adult."

UPDATE: Just to clarify for anyone who may be confused - Ashlee is on the left, others included at the event are Fergie, Courtney Love and Kimberly Stewart. I just made note of the awkward pairings because I could not imagine what these two pairs conversations must be like.

The Stars Prep Their Vocal Chords For the Grammys

Posh Celebrates Jennifer Hudson and Talks Haircuts

After showing the love for Marc Jacobs at his Fashion Week show, Victoria Beckham cozied up to her designer friend at a party celebrating Jennifer Hudson's upcoming album last night. You're all loving her new super-short hair, and Posh is enjoying her new look too. She said, "I wanted to pull my hair back from my face and have always loved the idea of having a gamine crop. I spent a long time looking at the great fashion haircuts of the 90's and went to Garren, the master of those cuts, to create our modern interpretation of this look. I love it!" Chris Brown Released on Bail

Chris Brown ponied up his $50,000 bail and has left the police station - TMZ has some video of him on the way out. Chris turned himself in earlier tonight and was booked for the alleged assault of a woman after the Clive Davis party last night. He attended the party with Rihanna and while the identity of the woman has not and will not be released there are lots of rumors going around about what went down. We're trying to withhold judgment until there are some more facts out there, but either way it's a heartbreaking turn of events for a young man who seemed like a sweetheart.

Update: According to sources, E! Online is reporting that the woman involved is in fact Rihanna.

Updates on Chris Brown's Alleged Assault of Rihanna, Now Deadly Weapon Involved

Chris Brown stopped by his hotel a few hours before heading over to Clive Davis' Grammys preparty with Rihanna on Saturday. Just a little less than 24 hours later, he was huddled in the back of an Escalade after posting his $50,000 bail for alleged assault of a woman. We were shocked yesterday when we heard the news the singer had been arrested for an alleged assault and even more surprised and heartbroken when sources said the woman he beat was Rihanna and that there was a deadly weapon involved.

LAPD insiders, who also identify Rihanna as the victim, say the two got into an argument in their car, stepped out as things got heated, and a witness called 911. Chris was no longer at the scene when the police arrived, but the visibly bruised woman identified him as the attacker. There are some rumors that the argument began because Rihanna accused Chris of flirting at the party, but we're still trying not to jump to conclusions. His court date is set for March 5, and we'll continue to update you when we hear more about the situation. Right now we just hope for a speedy recovery for the victim, and our hearts are with her.
