2009 MTV EMA Nominations and Performers Announced!

Having already given us the shortlist for the Best UK & Ireland New Act category, MTV has now announced the full list of nominations for the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards. Tokio Hotel, Green Day and Leona Lewis are all confirmed to perform at the ceremony in Berlin on 5 November too. Lady GaGa and Kings of Leon lead the pack with five nominations each, while several of our British and Irish stars have nominations, including Robbie Williams, Coldplay, U2, La Roux, Pixie Lott, Little Boots and Leona Lewis. You can vote for your favourites and then see all the pictures and find out gossip from backstage when we cover the awards in November. Sugar Bits: Alesha Vows To Stay On Strictly Despite Complaints

Coldplay brought their world tour to a close this weekend with two rocking shows at Wembley Stadium, and I was lucky enough to be there. Chris Martin and the boys were supported by White Lies, Girls Aloud and a record-breaking Jay-Z, who really got the audience going: watch Girls Aloud's "The Promise" and Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" after the jump. Coldplay performed a mammoth set of their hits, plus an acoustic version of "Billie Jean" where they were joined by Simon Pegg who played the harmonica, and Jay-Z came back out for "Lost". Chris was energetic as always, showing off his impressive flexibility, and his playful mood was in full force as he got the 60,000 strong crowd to perform a Coldwave - a Mexican wave with mobile phones (check out an example after the jump). In honour of Cheryl Cole, the band also set up an X Factor-style audition with Simon Cowell on the screens. What an awesome show!

Which Live Lounge Performance Are You Most Excited About?

Following last year's awesome array of musicians, the lineup for Radio One's latest Live Lounge tour has been announced, with yet more awesome acts getting ready to serenade Jo Whiley from their homes, studios and gigs. On Monday 14 September Kasabian will perform from Leicester, Tuesday brings JLS's turn in London, come Wednesday Biffy Clyro will be entertaining us from Ayrshire, on Thursday the show comes from Dizzee Rascal's studio in London, and on Friday we'll be treated to Coldplay and Jay-Z. Beyonce and Lady GaGa Lead MTV VMA Nominations

Beyonce and Lady GaGa each have nine MTV VMA nominations for "Single Ladies (Put A Ring on It)", "Poker Face" and "Paparazzi". Coldplay is flying the flag for us Brits, with "Viva La Vida" nominated for Best Rock Video, Best Editing, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography. Bat For Lashes is nominated in the Best Breakthrough Video category for "Daniel", which the majority of you loved. Britney Spears has seven nominations - do you think she will win as many awards as last year? You can vote for your favourites before Russell Brand comes back as host of the ceremony on 13 September: you guys are fairly evenly split on whether this is a good thing or not! Coldplay "Strawberry Swing" - Spin It or Sling It?

Yesterday, Coldplay's latest "Strawberry Swing" video was released. The song starts off with what sounds like is a twinge of Scottish bagpipes, which is an interesting mix with the familiarity of Chris Martin's voice. The lyrics are lovely and symbolic, as expected, and the tune is quite soothing. I'm hooked - how about you?

Coldplay Breaks Record in Digital Album Sales

Coldplay is making history in the digital age: the band has just become the first act to sell over one million full digital albums in the US., and they have also sold approximately two million digital albums worldwide. I don't know why, exactly, but it surprises me a little that out of all the bands and musicians out there, Coldplay is the one to sell the most digital albums.

MusicRadar notes: "And for Coldplay, the stats keep getting better and better: their 2008 release Viva La Vida, is now ranked as the top-selling digital album in SoundScan history. (Although we suspect a certain king of pop might stand a chance at besting that figure within a matter of weeks.)" So Coldplay's achievement here may be surpassed by Michael Jackson pretty soon, which would make sense.

Does this surprise you at all? Or does it seem natural that Coldplay would be the first band to sell over a million digital albums?
