Liz, Sophie And Richard Are in Big Brother Company

Lots of celebs turned up for Company Magazine's 30th Birthday Party at the Proud Galleries in Camden last night. Liz McClarnon shone in her bright red dress, while Sophie Ellis-Bextor and hubby Richard Jones coordinated in their all black outfits. Like the BT Digital Music Awards, the party was graced by ex-Big Brother housemates, giving BB9 hunk Stuart Pilkington the opportunity to rub shoulders with last series' Sam and Amanda Marchant and series seven's Imogen Thomas. Calum Best got a whole load of BB action by attending both parties. Greedy boy.

Ben Affleck Has a Fun Flannel Shirt Collection

Ben Affleck snacked between takes yesterday afternoon while filming The Company Men in Boston. The cast hit a local golf course to shoot earlier in the week giving some fans a great celebrity sighting though Ben's performance on the links apparently didn't impress anyone. He might not have the best swing, but while in town he's proven that he's an old pro when it comes to family playdates.

Casa Shops: Beehive Kitchenware Company

While Beehive Kitchenware Company does make measuring cups and lemon juicers, their range of fanciful metal accents ensures that you can use them in any room of your home. I have my eyes on Beehive's Paisley Hooks ($27) myself, though there are plenty of other pieces that have enchanted me. The company, which is located in Massachusetts, is owned and operated by Jim Dowd and Sandra Bonazoli. The metalworkers' collaborative work has been exhibited at the Museum of Arts & Design.

Jim and Sandra's work has been featured everywhere from Gourmet to Architectural Digest. They were first influenced to create their metal home accents after seeing how beautiful antique kitchen items were. With the goal of melding form with function, they started their line of products. Birds and bees are a repeating motif in the company's metalwork, as are delicate petaled flowers. You can order these products online, or find them at a local retailer.

Beehive notes that, as part of their environmental policy,

We use only recycled paper in our office and recycle all our paper, junk mail, and cardboard (no small feat!). Our packing peanuts are made from bio-degradable material. Our products come in boxes that are made from recycled, unbleached paper, and are most often nestled in a natural, compostable material. There is very little in the manufacture of our products that creates waste: any reject castings get re-melted, and we recycle every bit of our scrap metals. And of course all of our pewter is lead-free, without any electroplating, to protect the health of our water.

The company also only works with local and national suppliers to cut down on their carbon footprint. While these items are definitely not "needs" for a home, they will complete a home's look and add a whimsical, beautiful touch to any room. I like to think of Beehive's products as things that you might not necessarily buy for yourself, but would be on the top of your list for thank-you gifts for your favorite friends and family.

The Garner Girls Make For Good Company

While Ben Affleck was busy filming The Company Men with Kevin Costner in Boston yesterday, his ladies were across town having a play date in the park. Fresh off a trip to DC where she spent time with her mom, Jennifer was back to tending to her own little ones and giving Violet a few pushes on the swings. Ben and Jen are expected back in Washington this weekend for the White House Correspondents' Dinner, but for now the family can savor the springtime moments in Ben's hometown.

Ben Affleck Gets in the Game

Ben Affleck showed off his football skills yesterday on the set of The Company Men, impressively managing to stay clean in his suit. He's been shooting the movie for the past week or so by himself near Boston, but his girls just traveled from LA to join him. Jen's also been busy doing double duty watching their daughters and promoting The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, but she's getting advice from friends to make sure it all fits together seamlessly.

Jen Holds Down the Fort While Her Company Man Works

Ben Affleck and Kevin Costner chatted on the set of The Company Men in Ben's hometown of Boston yesterday. His location could get in the way of his attending the State of Play premiere in LA this week, but he should be able to trek down to meet his cast for the DC screening. Meanwhile, Jennifer Garner is back in LA this week picking up Violet and her latest art project from school. The whole family got to celebrate Easter together but now while he's gone, Jen gets all-girl play dates with her growing Seraphina and Violet. Next week, mom will be the one hitting the red carpet to promote Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Matthew McConaughey.

Nice and New: The Company Store Website

We all need a little makeover every once in a while. Personally, I'm trying to hold off on the face-lift until I'm one of those wacky 65-year-olds with too many heirloom rings on her fingers and Marge Simpson hair.

But I did notice that the Company Store went in for some cosmetic surgery recently: the shop's website has been revamped. It's not a drastic change, but the site looks considerably more polished and fresh. I'd always felt the catalog was a little stale, but now it looks like it's ready to run with the big guns (Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, etc.). I've also noticed some hip new furnishings and stronger staging of photographs as well. It's no ShopStyle, but it's an impressive improvement!

Good Works For Kids

Kathy Phillips, International Beauty Director of Vogue and founder of the This Works, cult line of aromatherapy beauty products, has recently launched a partnership with Kids Company, to raise money for disadvantaged and damaged children.

Kids Company, set up in 1996 by Camila Batmanghelidjh, provides a refuge for children trying to escape abuse or drug use at home. The drop-in centre, in South London, provides a community-focused area where children can go to see friends, have massages and just hang out in a safe and caring environment.

Kathy's Good Works range, in association with Boots, is a mass market aromatherapy range, available from September.

"I decided to call it Good Works, because it was going to be green and sustainable, and because of the connection with This Works." Kathy told The Observer magazine. "Then I felt if we were going to use that name we really should be doing something good with it".

The products are almost a natural, if somewhat surprising, tie in with Kids Company. At the centre, children are able to get massages, reflexology, cranial osteopathy and acupuncture, alongside psychotherapy. Usually branded 'young thugs' it is these children from disadvantaged backgrounds, that often end up turning to drugs and knife crime, often from abuse or neglect.

Camila says "Some of them are so traumatised that they won't allow anyone to touch them, so sometimes the therapist would have to do it over their Nike caps...it's when the children are lying down that you see the cigarette burns, the belt marks. The massage therapists have to be prepared for this. "

Kathy adds "As a beauty editor you know that there's a percentage of people who think the whole thing's very superficial, very commerical... but.. you see how people are feeling better about themselves and how their performance has improved."

The Good Works products will now be used at the centre, as well as a percentage from the sale of the products at Boots (£2 from every £8) going to charity.

It's heartening to see these children, often as young as six or seven, who are usually judged solely on their behaviour, being able to receive the care they deserve – instead of being shunned by society or branded as 'chavs'. Good works, indeed.
