Normally it's Rihanna's hair style and hair color that changes with great frequency, but last night in London, at the launch of her new album, Rated R, it was all about the eyes. Wearing a bright, cool-toned fuchsia eyeliner on her bottom lash lines, she topped off the look with a contrasting warm gold shadow on the lids and feathery falsies on the top lashes. Hair Color Dos and Don'ts: Must-Have Tips For Perfect Results

When it comes to at-home hair color, all products are NOT created equal. Knowing what to look for can make the difference between so-so and stunning. Here are some secrets, including special tips from celebrity hair colorist and L’Oréal Paris expert Christophe Robin, for achieving beautiful, professional-looking results on your own.

DO choose a shade that complements your skin tone and eyes. “If you have fair skin and blue, green or gray eyes, your complementary shades will have ash or beige tones,” Christophe advises. “If your skin tone is golden, olive or dark and you have dark eyes, your complementary shades will have gold or red hues.” Have characteristics of both warm and cool tones? “Go with whichever is your preference.”

DO stick close to your own hair color if you want a subtle change. “If you’re not sure which shade to choose, go just 1 or 2 levels lighter or darker than your natural color,” says Christophe. “This will give you a noticeable change that’s not too dramatic and is easy to maintain.”

DO pick a product that’s specifically formulated to cover gray hair, which can resist coloring.

DO use products specifically designed to preserve your color, like Vive Pro Color Vive Shampoo and Conditioner for Color-Treated Hair.

DO choose a gentle formulation and indulge in regular deep-conditioning treatments.

DON’T be afraid to take a risk. Hair color offers a fun way to express your personality and experiment with a new style or attitude. “When a woman goes darker with her color, she’ll feel stronger,” Christophe notes. “When she goes lighter, she’ll feel more sexy and sensual.”

DON’T skimp on time. You might be tempted to cut corners to save a few minutes, but resist the urge. It’s crucial to allow the proper amount of time for each step - especially when you are going for a dramatic color change “You can’t rush hair color,” Christophe cautions.

DON’T judge a box by its cover. Although it’s a common misconception, you shouldn’t expect your hair color to turn out exactly like the model’s on the box. “Your personal result will be determined by the condition of your hair, your current hair color and the shade you’ve selected,” says Christophe.

DON’T overdo it. Coloring too often can compromise hair’s health and yield uneven results. A touch-up every four to six weeks is all that’s required to keep your shade looking fresh and vibrant.

DON’T forget the SPF. You protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun, so why let your hair take the heat? “The sun is the number one enemy of color-treated hair,” says Christophe. Use shampoos and conditioners that contain UV filters to block damaging rays and prevent fade-out.

Keep Curls Bouncy With This Simple Idea

Long, soft curls and waves look classic and fresh at the same time - just check out Audrina Patridge's hair here. But raise your hand if you've ever spent time meticulously styling your hair, only to watch the curls go limp within an hour. Annoying. But stylist Dean Banowetz, whom you may know from the InStyler, has an easy fix.

"After you’re done curling the hair, roll the hair back up and pin it with a clip," he says. "That's really essential, because then the hair can cool properly in that formation. While it's cooling, finish your makeup or finish doing whatever else it is you need to do. If you want the curl to loosen out, you can just let it hang."

Be sure to use hair spray to set the curls. (Banowetz recommends Tre Milano Shine Spray.) Then, watch your waves stay all day long. Easy!

Hey Duuuuddde. Hey Dude was one of my favorite Nickelodeon shows in the early '90s. Melody, Brad, Ted, and Danny made rancher life look so cool. The quiff, (pronounced kwee-ff) is a 1950's fashion-forward rockabilly and masculine hairstyle. It's cut longer on the top, and combed upwards and backwards, all the while being held in place with firm-hold styling products.

We saw a brief comeback of the quiff in the 1980's, and most recently, edgy celebrities like Marion Cotlillard and Danni Minogue, have been spotted wearing this half-voluminous, half-sleek style around England again.

How To: Tamara Ecclestone's Roller Curls

Styling products and beauty tools like volumiser, hairspray and rollers as the secret ingredient to creating this kind of bounce. This look takes time, as opposed to the relaxed, beachy waves hairdo that you learnt to create yesterday, however it's easy to acheive.

For five step directions on how to get sexy, velcro-roller curls at home, just read more.

STEP 1: Begin by using a volumising shampoo and conditioner. Towel dry hair (very gently) and apply an anti-frizz serum, a thickening spray to the roots of your hair and a heat-protection spray all over. Check out my recommendations here.
STEP 2: Next, blow dry hair straight until it's 95% dry in sections. As you dry each section (start from the bottom up and leave the crown wet) and the hair is still hot, wrap the hair winding it from bottom to top using a large velcro roller. Although this is intended to stick in place without any assistance, I like to secure the rollers using bobby pins or claw clips.
STEP 3: Now that you've finished the majority of your hair, it's time to work on the most important part - the crown. Again, dry hair and use the rollers however, wind them away from the face this time for extra fullness. Once you are finished, carefully heat the hair up again. When it's hot, switch your dryer to the cool setting so that the hair sets. Leave in the rollers for about 20 minutes (this is a great time to do your makeup).
STEP 4: Mist hair all over with a light hold hairspray. Let it dry for about one minute before taking out the rollers. Unwind them gently and then flip hair upside down. Shake your head to loosen the curls and then flip your head back up.
STEP 5: Finger comb a part and use a boar bristle brush to smooth hair into place (if necessary). Lastly, spritz either a setting lotion or a medium to light hold hairspray all over. Voila - you're gorgeous!

How-To: Work With Your Widow's Peak

A widow's peak is a dominantly inherited v-shape that dips down along the hairline. Perhaps one of my best friend's most enduring features is her widow's peak, which lends even more character to her friendly disposition. Do you know anyone with this distinctively cool feature?

Female celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Alyson Hannigan, Fran Drescher, and Milla Jovovich all have widow's peaks, along with Keanu Reeves, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Colin Farrell on the men's front. Perhaps you have this genetic trait, too. If so, here are some tips and techniques for making it work. Just read more.

Let it be: Your widow's peak makes you uniquely you, so why hide it? When choosing a hairstyle, focus on your overall face shape instead, whether it's heart, square, oval, or round.
The true heart: A true heart-shaped face will have a wider forehead, pointier chin, and a widow's peak. In this particular case, choose styles that give volume around the jawline, avoiding cuts that provide fullness around the temples. Also, steer clear of blunt bangs, which can look too severe.
Curly girly: Notice how Marilyn's widow's peak blends in with her curl? Add a few swooping rounded curls in the mix to provide a soft effect.
Hair removal: If you absolutely must create a straighter hairline, avoid shaving, which can leave an obvious stubbly line. Instead, consider tweezing, but don't go overboard.
Do the splits: Your widow's peak might act like a cowlick, causing unwanted splitting along your hairline. To coerce it to behave, start with damp hair and focus the air flow from your blow-dryer down toward the peak, tautly pulling hair over and around it to blend.
Banged up: Side parts and soft, swooping bangs are perfect ways to work with your widow's peak. Also, fun, spiky undercut bangs blend nicely with a descending v hairline, providing a stylish face-framing effect.
