Trend Alert: Light Roots

We're used to seeing dark roots on all the chemically assisted blondes in Hollywood, but lately things are going the other way - women with naturally light hair are going dark and showing off their much lighter roots as their hair grows out. Kristen Stewart, Lindsay Lohan, and Agyness Deyn are all sporting the look. It's an interesting reversal that's sure to garner mixed reactions. What do you think? Turn Yourself Into a "SuperModelquin"

Old Navy's latest online feature is a little bit cool and a little bit creepy. As part of their SuperModelquin Super Search, you can see what you'd look like . . . as an Old Navy mannequin. Start by selecting all of your features, from face shape to hair length and color, size and body type to the size of your nose.

After you're done entering your features, you can dress your mannequin, choose a background, and send it to friends. Then, browse the gallery of saved images to rate your favorites. The winner of this SuperModelquin challenge will advance to the final round of the contest, which carries a grand prize of $100,000 and immortalization as an Old Navy mannequin. At the very least, it's kind of fun to spend 10 minutes "mannequinning" yourself. Now if we could just use our mannequins to "try on" store clothes in the online store!

Fit Tip: Soak Your Hair Before a Workout

When I head out into the hot weather to work out, I discovered an easy trick for staying cool. It works so well that I do it before heading out for a run, bike ride, or hike. I simply stand over the sink and drench my hair with water. When it's completely soaked and dripping, I wrap it in a bun. As I run, the breeze on my wet head keeps me cool. It is quite a pleasant sensation. Try it the next time you head out in the heat.

Hot Hair Tips for the Red Carpet

Whilst spending time with famed hairdresser Charles Worthington, we not only talked about his background, my hair and the 2010 BAFTA Awards, but we also talked about how to keep hair looking its best for a big night out.

Oftentimes, hair is done hours before an event, making it challenging to keep it full and fresh looking. Charles has created amazing red carpet looks for celebrities attending the Oscars, BAFTA's, Brit Awards and many, many other celebrations. To find out some of his best kept secrets for keeping fine and thick hair looking its best for a long stretch of time, just read more.

For Fine Hair: Begin with a volumising shampoo and conditioner. Blow dry using a palm-full of mousse for texture, as it bulks hair up and also spray with a heat protecting styling product. Then, depending on the look you are going for, either iron it, tong it and spray each section with hairspray as you go.
For Thick Hair: Begin prepping hair anywhere from two to three weeks in advance. Start with a bi-weekly deep conditioning treatment to help flatten the cuticle. This will help create a smoother result. The night of, add a serum when hair is wet and distribute evenly from the roots to the ends. Then, flat iron your hair first so it's nice and sleek and shiny from the start and proceed to style as desired using plenty of hairspray as you go.
Hot Rollers:If you're using rollers, the trick is to make sure that they are cold before you remove them. Hair expands when it's hot and shrinks when it's cold, so you want your hair to cool (he recommends waiting 20-30 minutes, as rollers tend to retain a lot of heat) to ensure the curl lasts.

2010 Oscars: Molly Ringwald

Isn't she-eee... pretty in... purple? Seeing Molly Ringwald on the red carpet is such a treat, and the way her signature red hair plays off her violet dress is elegant yet cool. Aside from some long lashes, there's no big drama here with her hair and makeup - but when you're an '80s icon, you don't need to make a fuss to get attention.

2010 Independent Spirit Awards: Mena Suvari

Mena Suvari wasn't afraid to have a little fun at the 2010 Independent Spirit Awards. She placed a sequined accessory on her head and kept the hair underneath straight. It definitely takes the cool factor up a notch and separates her from the rest of the women out tonight. She kept her makeup minimal, with only the upper lashes darkly lined and a more subtle pinkish-red lip. Do you think Mena pulls off the look?
