Fab Flash: Louis Vuitton Wins Court Battle

Today saw a ground breaking court ruling which is sure to change the future of both online auction sites and counterfeit goods. Louis Vuitton (who seem to love court drama) took ebay to court over the sale of counterfeit goods on its site, and for selling genuine products outside their desired retail channel.

Paris’s Tribunal de Commerce cited “grave errors” on eBay’s part following a two-year court battle. Ebay were forced to pay Louis Vuitton 19.3 million euros (£15.2 million), Christian Dior Couture received 17.4 million euros, (£13.8 million) and Parfums Christian Dior, Parfums Kenzo, Guerlain and Parfums Givenchy, were awarded around 3 million euros (£2.4 million).

Ebay was also ordered to stop selling products from those brands immediately (including fragrances and cosmetics) or face a fine of 50,000 euros, or £39,000, a day.

Nerd Boy Takes His 3-D Animation to Court

When a flying snowball pelted the dude below, one of the lenses in his glasses took the hit and broke. Whoops! Not only did nerd boy take this super serious flyby snowballing case to court, he made an animated 3-D reenactment of the "crime" to give the judge and viewers at home some sense of the pain and trauma he endured that dreadful day. (Cuz a one-sided snowball fight is hard to visualize, you know.)

N.H. Judge Rhymes Ruling To 'Green Eggs And Ham'

Court rulings have become the stuff of child's play. A New Hampshire inmate filed a lawsuit because prison officials will not feed him a kosher diet. To get the court's attention (or just be a smart ass), the inmate attached a hard-boiled egg to his complaint. The presiding judge responded with:

"I do not like eggs in the file. I do not like them in any style. I will not take them fried or boiled. I will not take them poached or broiled. I will not take them soft or scrambled Despite an argument well-rambled...No fan I am Of the egg at hand. Destroy that egg! Today! Today! Today I say! Without delay!"

A not so little known show called The People's Court is in its ninth season of broadcast. Seriously, people--what the hell are we watching here? (You know you're guilty of tuning in at some point or another.) The show attributes itself to the rise of the entire "television court show genre" because it was the first to feature an hour's worth of "real litigants...real cases...real justice...all year long!" Right. I think the people and cases featured on the show are about as legitimate as the following Mad TV parody. So what's your verdict on The People's Court?

Crave Worthy: A Backyard Bocce Court

I've recently become a bocce fanatic - I'm even in a league. It's the ultimate social game because anyone of any age or skill level can play. So, when I saw this backyard bocce court at Ceja Vineyards, I nearly died and went to heaven. I'd kill to have one installed at my house. You can build your own by picking up perimeter and base materials locally and a crushed oyster shell blend from Boccemon for as little as $595, which is still an investment. To have a court professionally built, it could cost between $18,000-$35,000. Yikes, right? For now, I'm happy to play on uneven grass in my backyard or local park. Divits, wet soil, and other natural elements may leave things slightly out of control for the players, but I'm not in it for the competition. Would you like one built at your home?

World Wide Web of Justice: People's Court RAW

I'll admit, in my youth I abused TV courtroom dramas. Hey, I was young, it was summertime, and the talkshow/reality TV circuit was in its nascent stages. That's why to this day I can recite the whole opening to The People's Court. You know, "both parties have agreed to dismiss their court cases and have their disputes settled here, in our forum, The People's Court.

You can imagine my excitement about this: People's Court Raw. It takes the court concept and smashes it into YouTube, letting bickering parties upload videos of their side of the argument, and letting the Internet community decide who wins. This is why the Internet was invented - so we can all be Judge Wapner. It's so brilliant, it just might work.

Cases on the docket now and open for voting: "Why do we need 4,000 giant dog beds?" and "Do you think it's OK if guys show emotion and cry?" That's it folks, you won't hear another peep from me today, I'm going to being playing bailiff on this site.

Would you submit a case for adjudication by a jury of your Internet peers? What question would you like settled? Is it even worth it without Doug Llewelyn asking the tough questions in the lobby?

Lily Allen Wins Libel Damages Over "Rant" That Never Was

Lily Allen has won "substantial" damages over an article that was printed in The Sun headed "Ranting Lily", that alleged she made offensive remarks about Cheryl Cole and David and Victoria Beckham.

Lily wasn't present at London's High Court for the settlement, but her solicitor said that the article suggested she had made offensive remarks about her fellow celebs in an interview which she supposedly gave to So Foot - a French football magazine - but he said the newspaper has accepted that Lily was never interviewed for the magazine and did not say any of the things that were attributed to her.

The newspaper's solicitor, Mike Patrick, offered apologies on behalf of the paper for the upset and embarrassment caused.

Food Court Survival: Part I

The mall is almost unavoidable during the holidays, and something about all that running around and waiting in lines makes me hungry. What's worse: Not only am I hungry, but I also know there is a place where food is easily accessible. That place, like the fast food holy land, is the Food Court.

Don't worry, we can get through this.

My first idea is to stick to places where you can actually eat healthy. Deli-type places (Au Bon Pain, Subway, etc.) that don't even have a deep fryer are good options - in other words, places where you can't get french fries and onion rings. Places such as Cinnabon, where it's gooey cinnamon roles or nothing, are out.

Au Bon Pain is a favorite of mine but watch out for cheeses, mayonnaise, and any other special sauces they throw on a sandwich and opt for mustard instead. A great option is the Tuna Nicoise Salad, with 270 calories and 12 grams of fat; get the dressing on the side to lower those numbers even more. People tend to think Chinese food is healthy, but that is not always the case - go steamed or not at all. A good option at Panda Express is the Mushroom Chicken with a side of mixed veggies, all for about 220 calories and 15 grams of fat.
