90210 vs. Melrose Place: Which Was More Scandalous?

This week's CW drama block may have its share of cool guest stars like N.E.R.D. and Samantha Ronson, but, on the whole, it's a total mess. On the one hand, you've got the unstable girls of 90210 having emotional breakdowns at the drop of a hat; on the other, the Melrose Place residents are busy sneaking around to cover up their crimes. Personally, I was a bit annoyed by all the over-the-topness - especially you, Annie. Oh, and you, Ivy. But hey, at least it gives us a few surprising moments.

Ready to dissect each show and decide which packed more punch? (Warning: major spoilers!) Take a peek at my arguments and then weigh in with your own when you read more.

90210 point: Sasha is officially a nut job. First she tells Dixon that she's pregnant, but when Debbie gets wind of it, she questions Sasha even further to catch her in her baby lies. But the best part? When Debbie says the line, "It starts with you're not pregnant, and it ends with stay away from my son." Oh, snap! Congrats Debbie, you just went up a notch on the list of cool TV moms. Sasha backs off, telling Dixon she had a "miscarriage."
Melrose Place counterpoint: Did David kill Sydney? They sure try to make it seem that way. David tells Ella that he was blackout drunk that night after finding out that Syd was sleeping with his father - and then he has a flashback where he wakes up with blood all over himself and a knife in his hand. I gasped a little over the big reveal, but I'm not entirely convinced that David wasn't set up by someone else.

90210 point: Annie is getting in way over her head with Jasper, and unfortunately, she seems much too insecure to dig herself out. When Navid hears that Jasper is a dealer, he tells Annie and she confronts Jasper about it. Jasper wigs out, making Annie cry and beg forgiveness. Later, we see Jasper selling drugs to someone, so we know the rumors are true. For more on his buyer, keep reading.
Melrose Place counterpoint: Jonah makes out with Kendra, the hot movie producer, literally within the first five minutes of the episode. (That didn't take long.) He stops things from going further, but when he comes clean to Riley, he gets on her case again for her kiss with Auggie. She apologizes profusely, but the damage has already been done. By the end of the episode, I was thinking, Wait, did they actually just break up?! I don't think so, but if you stuck around for next week's promo, things do not look good for the engaged couple.

90210 point: Jen is back, throwing around her prima donna wicked attitude. She walks in on Ryan during his date with the bartender from the previous episode and goes into attack mode with the verbal jabs. ("You look older closer up.") Ryan is actually turned on by her jealousy, and the two become exclusive. But what I can't understand is why, after he knows that she lies, does he actually trust her story about Liam coming on to her? He totally buys it!
Melrose Place counterpoint: Auggie finally gives his a-hole boss Marcello a piece of his mind, er, fists. Marcello passes off one of Auggie's recipes as his own, and then he makes a few lewd comments about Riley - and you know how Auggie feels about Riley. He starts swinging, knocking Marcello out. Back at the apartment later, Violet shows up, and in a moment of what I can only blame on Auggie's emotional distress, the two finally knock boots. I'm guessing this means we'll be seeing Violet's worst kind of crazy very soon (right before she and Auggie say sayonara).

90210 point: Adrianna is inching closer to her previous life of drug use. It starts when she plays a song asking for Navid's forgiveness. (So cheesy!) He turns her down, so she continues sulking in bed, sobbing. Silver and Naomi want her to go to a meeting so she can stay clean, and with due concern - at the end of the episode, we see her buying from none other than Jasper.
Melrose Place counterpoint: Ella's squeaky-clean client, Jessie, is hospitalized with major cocaine in his system, so she begs Lauren to write a fake report citing an allergy as the cause of his stay. Lauren refuses. (Anyone else confused about why Lauren continues to take the high road, despite her side prostitution gig?) Ella then discovers a wad of cash in Lauren's room and realizes her Pretty Woman secret. Of course Lauren denies the accusations, but no matter - Ella decides to let her star take the fall anyway and promises to never question Lauren again.

90210 had way more melodramatic outbursts, but those ladies were so crazy that it kind of turned me off. (You girls give women a bad name. Even Violet seemed normal this week compared to you.) So I'm giving this week to Melrose by default: I was genuinely shocked at David's bloody flashback and the fact that Jonah has suddenly broken out of his perfect-fiance persona. I expect scandal from someone like Auggie or Ella, but from Jonah? Come on!

Cheryl Spills About Ashley, X Factor, Exes & Elocution Lessons

Cheryl Cole spoke to The Sunday Times about the bad and good press she's had and the stories behind the headlines, including Ashley's kiss and tell, elocution lessons, her addict ex, trust and her new solo music. If you missed reading it in print, it's all up to read online, but here are some extracts from the fascinating story:

On newspaper rumours of elocution lessons: “Can you imagine Newcastle if I started coming out talking like the Queen? I couldn’t think of anything worse. It would be enough to drive you insane because it’s not always nice, is it? Stuff is just made up. It’s not nice to be criticised by another human being, it’s not nice to read it... so I just stopped.”
On whether she fully trusts Ashley: “I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t trust anybody in life except my mother and my dogs. I’m scared to let people know how much they mean to me, and it’s scary that you can love a small hairy thing so much.”
On their happiness: “Yeah. We’re happy. You have to go through life. You have to have that learning curve. That pleasure versus pain. In general my life goes shit shit shit, amazing amazing amazing. I’m on the biggest roller coaster ever. I feel like for the past six months I’m starting to level out. I’m sure at some point the nemesis will come back, but I feel like when the bad things happen there’ll always be something good coming.”

On joining The X Factor: "Sharon’s shadow was really hard to fill, and at the time my only impression of judging was of being judged, so being given that name was scary. I felt uncomfortable. Then I started to realise that I could actually benefit these people because I know how they feel. I can help them... This year I think I’ll be less [emotionally] involved. This year I’ve got the boys and there was something about them being girls, young girls - I felt responsibility for them.”
On her brother: "I haven’t actually spoken to him for a while, but he’s got a baby and I’m hoping that will be his turning point. But he has been [an addict] my whole life. Yes, from when I was seven or eight. He is only three years older but he looks much older. It’s all the abuse he’s done to himself over the years... I am not a big drinker. I am starting to learn a lot about myself. Drinking is scary to me now. I’m scared of losing control of how I feel or what I’m thinking. I’ll have the odd glass of wine to relax, but I’m not a mad-night-out person. I don’t like it. My granddad was an alcoholic as well. I would always see him staggering home from the pub, absolutely pissed on Strongbow. It affected his kidneys and his mind. He was losing his mind towards the end, all through alcohol. It’s so easy for a lot of people to knock the drink back but I am determined not to let myself go down that road."
On her ex:“A few weeks ago there was a story in the News of the World, and this person [Mack] said how I saved him from drugs. At the time he was constantly denying to me that he was using, even though I could see all the symptoms. He would be cold turkey in the bed next to me, covered in goose bumps, head to toe. ... I knew he was on it, but I didn’t want to believe it, and I wanted to be the one who got him off it. He denied it and denied it. That’s what drove me crazy. So when I saw that in the paper - ‘I made her life hell. I was using heroin’ - that was the first time in all these years that he admitted it and I felt the weight lifted off my shoulders. Even though my life has moved on and I’m in a better place, it was a relief.”
On her new solo music: “I have reached a point where I feel content. All the negativity has gone. The first single is called Fight for This Love. It says… 'We’ve got to fight, fight, fight for this love. If it’s worth having, it’s worth fighting for.' ... [It's] to everyone that I’ve seen in a tough situation. I think anyone can identify with it. I hope it makes people feel able to fight harder and not give up hope.”

While red hot mama Isla Fisher is certainly used to the comedic actor's antics, his precious daughter Olive may one day blush upon seeing the footage.

Every pop is sure to embarrass his children some day - probing his daughter's first date with 20 questions or wearing his pants up to his chin- but they do it in the name of love. Tell Mommy: Is There Such a Thing as a Bad Baby Name?

If you don't happen to be part of Hollywood's elite, who seem to be allowed to pick wild and crazy baby names, choosing a complicated or nontraditional name can insight all kinds of chatter among friends and family.

Of course, it's not just gossip new parents have to worry about. Just ask Chris Okum, the author of Seriously Bad Baby Names. What if you name your child something that rhymes with a body part, dirty act or funny historical character?

I just assume most parents are highly selective and thoughtful about what they name their children, so I always try and embrace new baby names with the understanding that it's just a name - and no matter what, the child will grow into it. Then again, I don't know a Richard Boutiekiss. Do you think there is such a thing as a bad baby name? And if so, what is it?

Beyonce Opens Up About Jay-Z and Babies

Beyonce Knowles showed off some huge bracelets on the cover of Elle and looked fierce with her heavy eye makeup inside the issue. She's been busy promoting her double album and walking red carpets for Cadillac Records with Jay-Z by her side. In the article Beyonce's shares her sweet side, including that she donated her Cadillac Records salary to the Phoenix House in NYC. Here are some highlights from the interview where Beyonce talks about her husband, kids, and playing Etta James:

On her relationship with Jay-Z: "It’s a power struggle. But if I didn’t respect someone and they didn’t have that strength, then I would be bored. I wouldn’t be attracted to them."
On her life: "There are a lot of things I never did, because I believe in watching those true Hollywood stories and I see how easy it is to lose track of your life. Think about Marilyn Monroe."
On having a baby: "No way! I’m terrified of delivering a child because I saw my nephew being born. That traumatized me. I’m only 27. I’ve got time."
On being affected by playing Etta James: "My mom had to leave the set. I don’t normally curse. Maybe twice a year. I have to be really livid. Somebody saying things or scheduling something where I’m not in control. It was freeing, but it was also the most emotionally draining time of my life. Every day I would come home; my eyes would be completely swollen."
Tina on Sasha Fierce: “Her cousin Angie gave her that name. We’d tease Beyoncé about having a split personality. Me and Angie and Ty, her stylist, would work with her doing a quick change when she’d come off the stage between sets. Beyoncé would start screaming, ‘What’s wrong with you? Where’s my shoe?’ ‘Uh oh,’ we’d say, ‘Sasha is here.’ I’m like, This is some crazy person who’s doing this quick change. She’s another person up there. We don’t take it personally. Sasha is her bragging side…I don’t know whether to say it, but her hip-hop side.”

Cottontop Tamarin Baby Masters Cute in Just Two Weeks' Time

Monkey baby, hooray! Just so you know, I totally said those words super silly so they all sounded the same (Monk-ay bab-ay hoor-ay). Call me crazy, but I'm going loopy from gazing into the eyes of this lil cutie pie. The two-week-old peeking babe cast a spell on me while innocently catching a ride on daddy's back.
I can guess how this species got their name, too – look at those tufts of white hair on the Cottontop Tamarin, they wear that hair hue proudly! In addition to this fam at the Jerusalem Zoo, there are only about 1,800 in captivity and 1,000 in the tropical forests of Colombia (their native habitats). Check out a couple more piccys below!

Ben and Jen Agree to Keep Things Traditional

The whole Affleck-Garner trio spent Sunday lunch together in LA, but yesterday it was just Jennifer picking Violet up from preschool. It won't be long before the family becomes a party of four, although their new addition won't be making reservations under a crazy Hollywood baby name someday since Ben and Jen have agreed to stick with something traditional again. No matter what they decide to call their next child, he or she is sure to be one of the most adorable celebrity babies around.

Harlow Is So Cute! Nicole and Joel Seem To Think So Too

We all let out a collective "awwwww" when we first saw the Nicole and Harlow People cover and now we have a look at the full inside spread. I don't want to jump the gun, but seriously, she's gotta be one of the cutest little munchkins ever and Nicole and Joel look so great (especially her hair) coo-ing over their baby. The whole photospread is unbelievably sweet and the interview from the new parents is just as heartwarming. Can you tell I love it or do you need me to gush more? Here are some highlights:

Who was the first to cry?
Nicole: I cried right away.
Joel: Right when she came out, you know that cry that's like an internal cry where you shake a little bit? [To Harlow] You made me cry!

How did you pick the name?
Nicole: We couldn't agree. I wanted a hippie name and he wanted a more Biblical name.
Joel: I really like Jean Harlow the actress, and she likes Shalom Harlow the model. Harlow's cool because it feels like a classic name.
Nicole: And no one has it.
Joel: Winter was so serene and quiet and that's how she is.
Nicole: I always liked the name Kate, but I knew I'd never name my kid that because it was just too plain.

Do you have help at home?
Joel: We don't have a nanny. We have our moms. They've helped us a lot.
Nicole: And we have to give credit to Benji [Joel's twins brother]. He lives six houses down. He babysits, like really babysits.
Joel: There was a day when I'd been at work all day and Nicole hadn't left the house for 48 hours, and I was like, "Let's go to a restaurant down the street," and Benj was with the baby. Then someone said they read somewhere we were out all the time. It's crazy. You leave the house for one hour and eveyone's like, "She's out! She's leaving the baby!"

Has Harlow met Paris Hilton?
Nicole: Yeah. They went to the Ivy. Just kidding. I have to say, all of my friends, their demeanor completely changes when they're around the baby. When they come in the house they're really mellow and careful and sweet with her. And when you're with a baby, you don't think, like, "Oh, I'm this person." She spits up on you and throws up on you and goes to the bathroom and passes gas.

Have you talked about how you want to raise Harlow?
Nicole: Joel joked my whole pregnancy that he thought he would be the strict parent because I'm so laid back and free-spirited.
Joel: And she's the strict one!
Nicole: And since she was born, I've been so protective. Now Joel's like, "I'm going to be the fun parent!"
Joel: Nicole can tell the difference between a whine and a cry. I'm like, "Oh, she's making a noise, I gotta go in there." And Nicole's like, "Let her self-soothe for a minute and see how she does."
Nicole: I'm with her all the time. And she was a part of me for so long. I know when something's wrong.

It's funny what a difference a year makes for Nicole and Joel - clearly Harlow is the start of something new and amazing for the young parents. I can't wait to see more of her (and what Nicole dresses her in, of course). I gotta say, this whole thing just makes me smile.

It's a Boy Named Zuma For Gwen and Gavin!

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale welcomed a baby boy today at Cedars-Sinai Medical center!

People reports, they have named their second son Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale. Talk about a crazy baby name!!! The newborn entered the world at 12:46 p.m. weighing eight and a half lbs., and everyone is "happy and healthy."

We can't wait to see the newest Stefani-Rossdale and see Kingston as a big brother. Congratulations to one of our favorite celebrity families!
