Anamorphic Cups: Love It Or Hate It?

I saw these anamorphic cups and saucers and immediately fell in love. The image is on the plate in plain sight, but can only be viewed when the mirrored cup is placed on it. Anamorphic creations aren't a new thing, the style first appeared in artwork in the 1600s, and became popular throughout Europe in the 18th century. So what do you think? Would these cups be popular in your house?

South Africa Weighs Legalizing Prostitution For World Cup

Fans heading to South Africa for the World Cup 2010 are interested in more than soccer. Anticipating that sport tourists will frequent prostitutes while they're in town, health experts are calling on the South African government to legalize prostitution for the tournament. The hope is that testing and registering legal sex workers will reduce HIV infections among visiting fans and South Africans alike.

In South Africa, approximately 50 percent of sex workers are HIV-positive. While this figure might be enough to dissuade cautious would-be customers, experts figure that the party atmosphere, fueled by alcohol, will lead to much promiscuity. In fact, South Africa has been anticipating a surge in prostitution demand for some time now. More than a year ago, police unveiled plans to legalize sex services for the 2010 games, arguing that Germany opened safe and easy "adult entertainment centers" during the 2006 World Cup. These plans have been rejected so far, for reasons including concerns about greater transmission of HIV, but if legalization means screening sex workers for HIV, it could make things safer.

No matter what happens, let's hope South Africa can use the World Cup to raise awareness about HIV testing. If that happens, everybody will walk away from the tournament a winner.

Cup Noodles Gets Greener

Even the biggest foodies among us have consumed our fair share of instant Ramen - I did go to college, after all. But I always steered clear of Cup Noodles, the Ramen you cook by adding hot water to a styrofoam cup, which you then throw away. It just seems wasteful, and the fact that the cup is made of styrofoam makes it even worse!

Fortunately, it seems the Cup Noodles folks are moving into the 21st century: Treehugger reports that Cup Noodles is now selling reusable cups for its to-go Ramen soups in Japan. The "Cup Noodle Refill Starter Pack" includes a container called "My Noodle Cup," with a cup liner that Ramen fans can customize with their own designs, as well as soup refills.

I applaud the effort, but I can't help but wonder why you wouldn't just buy the regular Ramen noodles and make them in a bowl or mug. I guess because you're on the go, or too lazy to wash a dish, which makes me think that those folks will still opt for the styrofoam cup version. What do you guys think?

Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Blondies. Enough Said.

When I saw this recipe on the last page of October's Everyday Food magazine, I knew, instantly, that I had to make it. Reese's Pieces are my favorite Halloween candy and the thought of their crunchy shell and peanut butter filling in combination with brown-sugar blondies was too good to be true.

Unfortunately, the day I planned on making them, I couldn't find Reese's Pieces anywhere and didn't have time to run to another grocery store. Thus, I grabbed the next best thing: Reese's peanut butter cups. The resulting blondies weren't as festive as the original, but they sure were scrumptious! Halloween Blondies
From Everyday Food

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted, plus more, room temperature, for pan
1 cup packed light-brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
1 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt
1/4 cup each orange, yellow, and brown candy-coated chocolates (from a 12.6-ounce bag) or 8 Reese's peanut butter cups, removed from their wrappers and corasely chopped

Directions

Preheat oven to 350. Brush an 8-inch square baking pan with butter; line pan with parchment paper, leaving a 2-inch overhang on two sides. Butter paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together butter and sugars until smooth. Whisk in eggs and vanilla. Add flour and salt; stir just until moistened. Transfer batter to prepared pan and smooth top. Arrange candies or chopped peanut butter cups in 12 rows (2 rows per color, repeating once) on top of dough.
Bake until top of cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 45 to 50 minutes. Set pan on a wire rack and let cool completely. Using parchment overhang, lift cake from pan and transfer to a cutting board; cut into 16 squares. To store, keep in an airtight container at room temperature, up to 2 days.

Makes 16.

Roaches Cup and Saucer: Love It or Hate It?

Although some people may think this Roaches on My Cup and Saucer servingware ($47) is whimsical, I find it grossly realistic. I don't want a live roach crawling in my cappuccino, so why would I want to see a painting of one at the bottom of my mug?! Still, this teacup set could be fun for practical jokes. How do you feel about it? Does it make you squeamish, too?

The disgusting phenomenon known as "2 Girls, 1 Cup" took over the Internet in the last few months of 2007. The original video of two freaks doing the unthinkable with a cup was not as viral as the videos of people watching and reacting to the sick scene. Here's one of those reaction vids. The poor pug below has no idea what he's in for, but once it begins, he can't contain his gag reflexes and utter disbelief at the indecent display before him. The horror! Now can we stop corrupting each other and put this madness to rest in 2008?

Funny Cup: Love It or Hate It?

The other day I came across this random cup that made me do a double take. At first glance, I thought it was full of egg yolk, but then I noticed the squatting female and started to laugh.

While I find it quite humorous, I'm not exactly sure I want to drink something out of it. Still, I can't help but picture it filled with beer! What do you think?

2 Girls, 1 Cup: A Ballad

Okay. This next one comes with a caveat: listener beware, your ears may be permanently damaged. If you don't live online, you're lucky you have no idea what the terrifying words "2 girls, 1 cup" evoke. Let's just say it was one of the most revolting videos ever out there, and that you should never watch it. I didn't. But I did have the fascinating pleasure of watching vids of a slew of people watching the vid, and let's just say it didn't make me any more eager to view this nastiness. But then along comes this ballad, and it somehow makes everything all right...

Posh and Boys Support Becks & Prep For Ramsay Christmas

Victoria Beckham was on sweet treat duty on Friday as she took the boys to Yogurtland in LA, while David spent Saturday training and attending a press conference in a warm hat. The Beckham brood then made the trip to Seattle to support David and LA Galaxy in their big MLS Cup final game on Sunday, following the team's win last weekend. Despite losing to Real Salt Lake 5-4 in penalties following the 1-1 draw, Becks remained positive about the team, saying: "It's always tough losing, but we can be proud of where we've come to".

It's been confirmed David can buy an MLS franchise when his playing career ends, and David confirmed he'll be going back to the Galaxy after his loan spell in Milan and the World Cup next Summer, but will be undergoing rehabilitation on his ankle injury. It sounds like Becks could do with a rest over the holiday season, and reports suggest he's going to get pampered at Christmas with Gordon Ramsay is reportedly cooking dinner for the Beckhams as their two families will spend Christmas Day together at Beckingham Palace. Sounds fun!
