Buzz In: Which Reality Stars Deserve a Spinoff?

This isn't exactly breaking news, but Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt started the rumor mill up again when they mentioned that they're shopping around their own spinoff from The Hills. The show would focus more on their everyday lives and acknowledge their "fame", which apparently has risen to such levels that they've gone and written a book about it.

I'm kind of over The Hills in general, and I think there are plenty of former (or current) reality stars out there who are more deserving of his/her own show. How about Taylor from The Rachel Zoe Project or Santino from Project Runway? Who do you think deserves his or her own reality show?

Fab Flash: A Luella Update

Yesterday, I shared the sad news that Luella had lost it's license and financial backer. The British fashion house is loved by celebrities and mere mortals alike with Bartley scooping Designer of the Year in 2008. Luella is now seeking a new financial backer and looking to the future.

There has been great sadness throughout the online fashion world with a Save Luella campaign launched on Twitter. Fans of the brand are already rushing to buy up pieces from the Autumn collection (with some pieces reduced here), before the Spring line even hits stores.

Luella and her design team are currently creative consultants at Liberty of London where they have designed some very festive window displays.

January Jones and Diane Kruger Looking For an Unknown White Male

January Jones is everywhere right now: This week's Mad Men was exceptionally stellar, her scandalous GQ issue is currently on stands - and the latest news this morning is that she will be appearing on the big screen soon, as well. (Much like some of the other Mad Men ladies.) Jones has been cast along with Diane Kruger in the thriller Unknown White Male. The film follows a man (Liam Neeson) who awakes from a coma to find that his identity has been stolen. Jones will be playing his wife who doesn't believe him, and Kruger stars as a cab driver who helps him seek out the truth.

Hmm, playing the spouse of a guy with identity issues? This shouldn't exactly be a stretch for Betty Draper's alter-ego.

I'm excited about this female pairing. I've always liked Diane Kruger (especially in Inglourious Basterds), and I'm curious to see if Jones can ride her current wave of success into full-fledged movie star status. (And Unknown White Male sounds like a more challenging part for her than say, American Wedding or Love Actually.)

What do you think of Jones and Kruger's new roles? Do you have a hard time picturing Jones as anyone but Betty?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Launch Olsenboye For JCPenney

On to the next. The rumors are true: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are launching a juniors line for JCPenney. Olsenboye makes total sense: the sisters began their retailer endeavors in the junior market - it's not to be forgotten.

The line will debut in 600 stores in February, but an innovative marketing campaign will kick off today for three days via an Olsenboye “treat truck” cruising around NYC selling clothes and giving out cupcakes, balloons and pins. The Olsen’s will be making a surprise appearance on one of the three days. As well, empty racks in 50 high-profile stores will be covered in Olsenboye samplings. Come Nov. 6, Olsenboye will be sold on jcp.com and in those 50 stores, including the Manhattan flagship, for a limited time. Updates and a teaser video can be viewed on Olsenboye.com.

The retail prices will range $20 to $50 for casual sportswear and accessories that includes denim, bottoms, tops, dresses, skirts, shorts, jackets, handbags and shoes. Super cool: it will dabble in travel-inspired mini collections, each reflecting the looks and trends of different cities.

What does Ashley say about the news: “Mary-Kate and I watch current trends and see our partnership with JCPenney as an opportunity to add something unique to the marketplace, especially in the current retail climate. Olsenboye is an extension of the Dualstar brand and we feel this collaboration complements and strengthens our business portfolio, delivering trend-based fashion at affordable prices.”

Bing and Google to Include Twitter Updates in Search Results

Another day, another huge Twitter announcement. And this time, it involves two of the biggest Internet companies around. Both Microsoft and Google announced today that both companies would start including Twitter posts in search results.

The feature is already live on Microsoft's Bing; Twitter posts appear based on key terms and tweets about hot topics. Click the "see more" link and you're redirected to a page containing recent tweets (that refresh automatically!) and a list of top links about the topic currently being shared on Twitter.

I think this news is exciting. While your reactions are split over getting news via Twitter, it's become a prime destination for finding up-to-the-minute content. We'll have to wait and see how Bing and Google plan to fully integrate Twitter feeds into search results pages, but if the past is any indicator, the incorporation of Twitter will be a huge win.

Hawaii Five-O Returning to TV

Book 'em, Dano! Hawaii Five-O is coming back to CBS. The network is currently at work developing a 2.0 version of the classic cop series, and the writers behind it include two of the guys from Fringe, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci.

I feel pretty confident about the cult favorite's return given that it's in such capable hands, but with yesterday's news that Southland got canceled, can any police drama - even one with established fans - survive against TV titans CSI and Law & Order? Here's hoping Hawaii Five-O may just stand a chance. I'm sure a few die-hard fans of the '70s original will be a bit unhappy about the new, undoubtedly slicked-up version, but as long as they leave the theme song alone, I'll be happy.

How do you feel about a remake? Do you think it can last up against the other police series?

CNN's New iPhone App Allows Easy Customization, iReporting

CNN launched its new iPhone application this morning, featuring breaking news, video, personalization options, and, most notably, an interactive iReport feature.

The application allows you to search for and follow topics of interest to create a personalized "MyCNN" news feed - from breaking stories about your home state to gossip about your favorite celebrity. Tapping any news story from the main screen leads to two summary bullet points, the main story, and any relevant video. An additional tap on the share button allows you to email the story, choose to follow the topic, or save it to read later. The app also pinpoints your current location to provide weather, traffic, and breaking news near you.

Its most interesting and unique feature is the iReport function, based on CNN's popular citizen journalism feature. Users are encouraged to capture photos and video of breaking news and upload it to CNN directly from the application.

The app is available now at CNN.com, and the iTunes App Store for $2. And if you were to ask me, it's well worth the $2.

Apple May Soon Be Announcing Cheaper MacBooks

Less than a month after the announcement of new Shuffles and Nanos with cameras, it's rumored that Apple could be gearing up to unveil its most cost-effective lineup of Macs including iMacs and MacBooks.

According to the Apple Insider, the new models could arrive just in time for the holiday season and attract customers who are looking for an affordable laptop. The new MacBook is said to be thinner than the current 13-inch model, but no other details have been leaked.

After 30 Years, Prescriptives to Bid Adieu. Boo.

Well, this is a disappointment. After 30 years in the cosmetics business, Prescriptives - the makeup company known for its "colorprinting" approach to matching skin tones - will be shuttered by Jan. 31 of next year. Officials from parent company Estée Lauder told WWD, "After a thorough analysis of the Prescriptives brand, management concluded that the brand's long-term business model is no longer viable, given the current market environment." Thanks a lot, recession.

This is unfortunate news for women who have difficulty tracking down the right foundation shade, as Prescriptives offered a better-than-most range of options for women of color. And if that didn't work out, its Custom Blend service (rave review here) provided the opportunity to get a precise match. In the grand scheme of things, that might not seem like a big deal. But for anyone who's been told that a makeup company doesn't make foundation in her skin tone, it was an excellent option - and perhaps, for some women, the only option for a perfect match.

Prescriptives will continue to be sold online, while the inventory lasts. So if there's a product you absolutely love, grab it now - because in a few months, it won't be an option. (I'm rushing off to get one last Custom Blend foundation while I can.) Are you surprised by this development?
