Nov 20 2009 - 5:45am Let's be honest: for most of you, it doesn't matter what I — or any critics for that matter — have to say about
New Moon, the incredibly anticipated sequel to last year's
Twilight. The film started breaking box office records before it was even released, and audiences will flock to the theaters for weeks to come. On the plus side, a ticket to New Moon is a win even if you're not a Twihard — provided that you know what you're getting into.

and bring on the next installement soon, so it will all be over with.
I cant get into a movie, or a series that is so terribly put together (sorry but if you are going to make me pay 10 bucks for a ticket, you better have some good special effects and this crap? isnt worthy for saturday morning power rangers) I also cant get into a movie that isnt supposed to be funny, but you laugh at it non stop because it is so terribly acted, written, cast and clothed.
1thanks, buzz...i was hoping you would post something soon!!
the letters to alice sounds kinda weird, but i guess they have to get bella's feelings out there. excited to see taylor, i thought he was pretty awkward/dorky in twilight, so good to hear he is much better this time around.
2I LOVED it, loved it. So much better than Twilight. Transitions were better, makeup was better, camera angels were better. I do admit that some of the wardrobe was horrendous. What the hell did they have Alice wearing? All of her outfits were so out of character besides the last one in the voting scene. The scenes with Jacob were a bit hard to watch just because I am a die hard Edward fan but they were beautiful never the less. I loved the scene with Emily and the wolves. The humans in the movie were funny and of course all the scenes with the Cullen's and the Volturi. The ending kind of pissed me off though. I hate when they leave cliffhangers even though I know what Bella's answer was. Big, big improvement from Twilight.
3So good. So much better than Twilight. Poor Jacob.
4This movie was so much better than twilight in every aspect- the direction, the production and special effects. It was no way as cheesy. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would
5I loved this film. I'm not even a die-hard Twilight fan, I have not read the books. I, for one, fell in love with Jacob--warning: he is so hot in this movie! This is definitely a teen love story, my husband would not have enjoyed it one bit.
6I CANNOT WAIT! WOOT
7Ugh, I'm so sick of Twilight mania. The movie sounds horrible, I have zero interest in ever seeing it.
8why god? look at what this movie does

9I actually really liked it--and I didn't like the first movie very much. Taylor was AWESOME. I have never, ever been Team Jacob, but, at least movie-wise, I am now.
I think that most of the other critics who are completely ripping it apart need to step back and realize that this is a movie aimed at girls who happen to think that vampires (and werewolves!) are really hot, so thanks for not reviewing it like it's supposed to be up for Best Picture. Yeah, it's not going to appeal to the 60 year old men who seem to make up the bulk of professional critics, but I'm a twenty year old girl and I sure liked it.
10Twlight was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The acting, the special effects, the wardrobe/makeup, etc. were Awful.
From what I've seen in the previews, New Moon looks to be about the same.
PASS
The story and the fan fare surrounding these books/movies would lead you to think they'd produce AMAZING movies. Why are they happy with... this? I don't get it.
11Also, it shouldn't matter who the target audience is. Just because I'm a 20-something female doesn't mean I wouldn't appreciate a little effort!
THIS MOVIE WAS 10 MILLION TIMES BETTER THEN THE FIRST!
12I liked the letter sent to Alice because it helped touch on everything that went on in the long book that a 2 hour movie couldn't cover. It helped to not leave things out.
The acting was a lot better in the movie too. It seems all the actors have gotten a little more comfortable in their roles and it paid off.
I am a huge fan of Rob but you couldn't help but be a little Team Jacob when watching this movie!
I can't wait to go back and see it again!
(by the way there were 1,200 people that showed up for the midnight showing last night and I don't live in a big city!)
I've seen it twice already and I agree that it's SO MUCH BETTER than "Twilight". They stayed 95% true to the book, which is great. However, I actually take it as a compliment that Robert's performance is called "wooden". "Edward" when he was in the book, during the break-up scene, was described as showing pretty much "no emotion". I thought Robert played the break-up scene pretty well, especially since "Bella" couldn't read what was going through him - no feeling whatsoever that's why she couldn't understand what was going on. That's why she believed that "Edward" didn't want her. Kudos to Robert because he was able to convey that sense of "not caring" for "Bella", in order for her to believe him.
13why can't people just say it was a good movie?? we're not going after the Oscars for crying out loud. Its a fantasy movie, its meant to take you away from all the daily drama we each go thru in our very REAL lives...
14My friend and I were some of the many that waited four plus hours in the cold to catch the midnight showing of this movie. I have a love for the books, and even the cast in these movies, but will say I am not so blind to deny what this movie really was.
I give the director a ton of credit for bringing the wolves to life on screen. I give him and the screenwriter credit for staying true to the books. There would have been a serious riot on hand otherwise. However, what he made up for in action, I feel he lacked in not having a woman's perspective. These are passionate books, and passionate because of the build up of dialogue between the characters, the forbidden love, the heartbreak, the love triangle. The movie took all the main lines from the book and used them as a means of getting to the action scenes.
This movie would have benefited more from a director like Nick Cassavetes, of The Notebook. I understand they needed someone with enough experience to bring the wolf pack alive on screen, but lets not forget the focus of these books. This is a love story first and foremost.
In a review I read, someone stated that this is a critic-proof movie, and I would 100% agree with that. It honestly won't matter what any critic (or anyone on here has to say has to say for that matter) about this movie , it will go on to be one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Mark my words.
For me, books are better. As simple as that.
15Loved it! It was so much better than Twilight.
16saw it two days ago. so amazing. it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better then twilight and this time around they actually stayed true to the book. Dakota Fanning is so good as Jane. As I was building the movie (projection) I would see certain frames and could pinpoint exactly where they were in the book. Ha. SO AMAZING.
17also, isn't Eclipse getting released in April? That's what's being reported on comingsoon.net ...?
18yeah eclipse is being released spring of next year. saw the damn posters and all the twi-hards at the theatre last night.
the review is exactly as i expected. DVd rental with a bottle of wine, good friends and laughs to make fun of the film.
19A movie is like a song, need time to build emotion- seems like New Moon has not enough time.I think the break up scene is not damn sad enough, I didn't feel tear in my eyes (maybe because a lot of people in the theater). I wish the script would be more sad. And I wish I could see Bella torture finding her stuff related to Edward&Cullens in her room that Edward hide it before he left but there is no this scene and no tear in her eyes in any scenes.
BTW,The elevator in volturi place is just too normal and lowclass.
I am sorry to say it frankly that I expect more intense feeling in this movie (maybe bcoz of my fault,I watch spoiled vdo on youtube too much- i will never watch anything about Eclipse before seeing the movie next year)
It's really different feeling after you left the theater and feel like "OMG! this movie is greater than the trailer" or "Oh..it's.....should be better than this, the trailer is just for commercial"
Team Edward but it's hard to not be team Jacob as well in this movie. Agree Taylor performance is the surprise!
20the movie was so much better than twilight. great actors and excellent wolves. goin to see it again
21IMO if she would quit that damn head twitching she does all subsequent films after Twilight would have been a little better. I don't understand how the Directors don't catch that and see it as a problem. It drives me nuts.
22Yes I agree that this movie is unintentionally funny, I giggled in nearly all the parts where Edward appears, he just looks so ridiculous and constipated in some of his scenes.
23newmoon so much better than twilight.2 tumbs up for the newmon director CW...the twilight director CH should learn more from CW
24I have heard people talk about Edward looking awkward and wooden etc.... did you read the book? It's supposed to be hard and painful for him to be with her...to kiss her etc. and I think he is playing the role perfectly.
25Eclipse is opening June 30th 2010. It's on the posters, it's on IMDB, and all other websites and promos. It makes sense for them to release it in the summer so they can break summer box office hits.
New Moon was amazing. I cannot wait to see it again. It was better than Twilight. I felt like it was true to the book in most aspects. I loved it.
26of course not New Moon is horrible and Twilight is much much much better than the stupid new moon,I mean sriously yeah I felt like a stupid kid watching the crap last night
but haven't said all that Edward Cullen was simply the BEST
27This movie is way better than the first!!! THe make up and special effects are better and the acting has improved so I can only hope that by the last movie these kids will have some real skills. I think that if you enjoyed the book and like a love story you should go check out the film.
28I loved Taylor in New Moon. I think he's the best actor in the whole movie, some scenes between Kristen and Rob just made me cringe.
29Did anybody else think the shirtless Rob scene was really ugly? When he took off his shirt half the girls in my cinema audience just went "eww" which I found hilarious!
By the time Rob had taken off his shirt we had already seen a lot of Taylor's abs so I think it was less impressive but non the less I loved it. I had already seen all the Rob shirtless scenes so many times before that when watching the movie I really found myself just paying attention to what was going on in the film and not how hard he worked to get those abs
30Ok it was a great to see NM translated onto the big screen but I could really have done without all the girls gasping and swooning every time Taylor Lautner didn't have his shirt on..which was only about half of the movie.
31p.s. what a cliffhanger ending - cannot wait till Eclipse!!
32i saw it and i loved it. reading the books i wasnt really a huge fan of jacob but i have to say taylor was great in the movie.
33i forgot to add that although i did like the movie i dont think they portrayed how sad bella really was. The book was much more intense.
34I think people, who have not read the books ,would never understand the complex relationship between Bella and Edward.
35In the book, Edward is supposed to be emotionless when breaking up with Bella, Edward wants her to believe he does not care anymore.Edward is supposed to look distress and in pain specially in Italy scene, he wants to die remember??? and he is suffering internally because he believes Bella has died. Do not put Rob's acting down, because he has captivated the real inner turmoil of the love he feels for Bella and the pain he is enduring.
I wish all the people who paid money to see the movies and the books realized just how rich they are making the Mormon church (The author has to give at least 10% of her earnings as a member of that faith). If you support them and their political agenda (i.e. up to 40 percent of donations for California's prop. 8 came from the church) that's fine, otherwise, I'd consider waiting and borrowing the DVD from a friend.
36see - i dont' get how everyone is saying that it's BETTER than the first one. my problem is that there's more texture in the book that you don't see in the movie- but i guess that's to be expected. the book is usually better than the movie. in any event, i really enjoyed it and i hope that eclipse is even better.
37@ilanac13, yes I agree it is difficult to embrace every aspect of the book in a movie. I loved the books although New Moon was my least favourite of the series.I can't wait for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn ( my favourite ones)
38New Moon was my least favourite book in the serioes so I am forward to Eclipse. My favourite scene was the last one! "Bella, wall you marry me?" Sigh.
Anyway I thought Kriten/Bella looked much prettier in this movie than in Twilight, the red in her hair was flattering but I thought everyone else (leading men exluded) looked pretty average. All the vampires eyes were too vivid and it made them look fake. I'm not sure if it was the gold tint Chris used in the film or just different contacts. It also made Edwards expression seem lest soulful. I imagine he had trouble acting around those contacts.
I thought the female vampires were all styled terribly. I dont know why but just their hair, clothes everything seemed to be unflattering.
Having said all that I really enjoyed the movie and 2 of my non fan friends really did too, enough that 1 of them wants to see it again
The thing I missed the most was the back storied of the Cullens. It made me appreciate Rosalie's decision to vote no to Bella so much more knowing what happened to her.
39PS Sorry for my atrocious spelling! Long day at work...
