Patrick Demarchelier on Perfect Princess Diana

Fashion and portrait photographer, Patrick Demarchelier, who has worked with some of the world's most beautiful models, including Naomi Campbell and Elle Macpherson, has revealed that today's society is too "perfection-obsessed" and has taken issues with the photographers and image-makers who "want to turn all women into models".

He tells The Telegraph "That's where they go wrong, I like it less and less. I never touched my pictures of Diana."

Those iconic pictures of Diana, where she looks both in control and sweetly vulnerable, with plenty of her typical coyness, are now part of a thirty-year retrospective at Paris's Petit Palais, the capital's museum of fine art.

About Diana, he tells The Telegraph "I remember when she first contacted me. I had done a picture for Vogue in which a model was opening her coat to show a picture of a little, laughing boy tucked into the inside pocket. The boy was, in fact, my son, and Diana, maybe because of her little boys, loved that picture so much that she got in touch. We became friends. She was funny and kind - but fundamentally she was a very simple woman who liked very simple things."

Demarchelier's ease at getting his subjects to relax and trust him are apparent in the personal pictures of the late Princess of Wales.

He says "Diana didn't pose like a model, and I had to work at getting her to relax. But I knew what I wanted because I had seen paparazzi pictures of her laughing, and that was when she was at her prettiest."

Fab Cover: Claudia Schiffer for Vogue

The latest issue of Vogue has finally been unveiled as classic supermodel Claudia Schiffer stars on the cover in a sparkly Versace dress. She was shot by Patrick Demarchelier who has recently also photographed Cate Blanchett and Natalia Vodianova for the fashion magazine.

Inside is a feature and shoot with Ms. Schiffer where she discusses the days of the supermodel. She explains how they all stuck together, "We even used to make group decisions not to do a job if a particular designer had mistreated one of us."

At 38 years old she still looks awesome, but confesses that she "can't miss a single meal" as she struggles to keep weight on. Claudia also explains why she will never use botox, "It's poison in my skin and no one knows the longterm effects. I'm far more scared of that than a wrinkle on my forehead." The April issue hits shops on Thursday. What do you think of the cover?

Fab Cover: Cate Blanchett for Vogue UK

Vogue revealed their January issue coverstar yesterday as actress Cate Blanchett. Shot by celebrated photographer Patrick Demarchelier, Cate also appears inside the issue in a shoot taken in Stockhold titled 'The Night Shift'.

The issue also considers the current financial climate and looks to the past for tips on how to deal with it. Editor Alexandra Schulman explains, Looking through the Vogue library, it was irresistible to republish some of the make-do-and-mend style advice advocated by the Vogue teams during the World Wars. We're not at war - at least, not at the time of writing - but it was a reminder that lean years often produce great ideas and creativity."

Fab Ad: BCBG Fall '08

BCBG ads have never blown me away . . . until now. Serafima, Tanya D and Nicole Trunfio show off the clothes wonderfully, despite blurry visions passing to and fro. Patrick Demarchelier captured the youth, beauty, and even an element of cool for the brand. The models are a bit whitewashed, but I suppose that makes the images more striking; they look like mannequins. Normally I would like a bit more personality from the talent, but the talent was all in the clothes and behind the lens. I can't wait to see this one in a full glossy, what about you?

Fab Covers: Natalia Vodianova for Vogue UK

UK Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman must strongly associate May with Natalia Vodianova as this is the third May cover that has featured the Russian supermodel. In 2007 she appeared on the cover with Razorlight's Johnny Borrell and in 2006 she appeared alone. Natalia has been busy recently signing ad campaigns with Versace, and DVF. The model gave birth last September to her third child but was back on the catwalk in just three weeks so she obviously likes to keep herself busy!

Natalia appears in a shoot called, To Russia with Love shot by the internationally renowned photographer Mario Testino. The issue also contains a shoot starring Fab favourite Jessica Stam shot by Patrick Demarchelier.

Fab Flash: Karen Elson Named New BCBG Postergirl

It never ceases to amaze me how fast model moms kick it into high gear postbirth: First with Natalia Vodianova walking the Paris runways three weeks after having her third child and now with Karen Elson, who has just been named the face of BCBG's Spring campaign.

Karen gave birth to her second child in August and replaces another model mom, Angela Lindvall. Patrick Demarchelier photographed the series, which is sure to be stunning - Karen's light complexion and blazing red hair will look perfect in BCBG's washed-out Spring collection.

Fab Flash: Vogue India Launches

The inaugural issue of Vogue India hit stands today, featuring Bollywood stars Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra and Preity Zinta, local supermodels MoniKangana Dutta and Laxmi Menon, and Australian supermodel Gemma Ward all on the cover, shot by fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier.

This new edition of Vogue is expected to be more colorful and more vibrant than the western models, according to Alex Kuruvilla, managing director of Conde Nast India. He also expects it to draw attention to Indian designers, Indian photographers, and even Indian models. The Vogue India woman has the best of both the eastern and western worlds: she wears Jimmy Choo shoes along with her traditional Indian garb.

Britney Poses Pretty Preparing For December Album Release!

Britney Spears was back to work yesterday posing at a shoot with Vogue photographer Patrick Demarchelier in Beverly Hills after which she rewarded herself with dinner at Magnolia. If the pictures end up in the magazine, it should line up with the rumored December release of Britney's star-studded new album. That will make it almost a year since the worst of her breakdown - thankfully she has come so far and the biggest headlines about the singer are about her VMA wins and planning a joint birthday bash for her boys who were born two days apart in September. Even the press about Lynne Spears's controversial revealing new book has become more positive.

Karlie Kloss Reveals Her Model BFFs, Spring Must Haves, and Nudity

When I spy a tall, thin, blonde slowly gliding down the runway, head slightly tilted down, eyes focused, staring, I know exactly who it is: American model Karlie Kloss. The 16-year-old, who has recently taken up blogging on Modelfeed, has an unparalleled presence; she's cute-as-a-button approachable and intensely mysterious at the same time. I chatted with the modeling sensation about how she was discovered, her model posse, and what she's wearing these days.

How were you discovered?

Doing a charity fashion show in a mall in St. Louis for a friend who was battling cancer.

Has your ballet dance experience helped you on the catwalk or with your stamina?

Ballet has helped me express myself on photo shoots, and on the catwalk gives me the confidence to move with the fabrics.

Do you ever get embarrassed or uncomfortable with the nudity that modeling demands?

I am still 16 so my agency won't allow me to do nudity of any sort.

Tripping on the runway after closing the Pucci show in Milan.

How do you pass the time waiting around for the action to begin?

I just talk to my girlfriends, and of course BlackBerry my agent Stephen, and eat cookies in the corner with the girls.

Do you have model friends? If so, who?

Yes, I have lots. Jourdan Dunn is a close friend. I love Karmen Pedaru, and Catherine McNeil is cool to bake stuff with; they both live in my building. Abbey Lee is always cool to hang out with.

Favorite photo shoot destination?

I always wanted to shoot in Disney World. Probably shooting British Vogue with Patrick Demarchelier in an island off Sweden.

What are your Spring must haves?

White t-shirts, jeans, and whatever trade the designers will be throwing my way.

Salma, Emma, Dita, and Lily Are Paris Fashion Week Pretty

Now it's Paris's turn for Fashion Week, and the celebrities are still happily coming out to see the new collections. Lily Allen, Dita Von Teese, and Katy Perry sat together at Christian Dior yesterday, alongside Zoe Saldana and a ladylike in gray Emma Watson, who gabbed away on her phone before the show. Salma Hayek and her ex-fiance Francois-Henri Pinault continued to look close in his home city, watching the Balenciaga show today - just one of the many fashion labels his company PPR owns. The month-long Fashion Week craziness is winding down, but there's still more beautiful clothes and front rows to come as Paris gets its turn in the spotlight.
