Celebrity Style: Sophie Monk

Pulchritudinous Aussie Sophie Monk was making the rounds in LA this week in a very Spring-ready ensemble. I've been seeing more and more denim dresses in stores and even though they remind many people of being 12 years old, I like the look when done right. Sophie chose a smocked jumper style and teamed it with some sky-high Michael Kors sandals and a pop of red (wallet). Even though she's sporting a few trends at once, her look is still approachable and very LA casual. Hopefully new squeeze Ryan Seacrest will approve as well.

Trend Alert: Denim Dress

Alexa Chung was spotted out late last week wearing a plaid shirt, blazer and a denim dress. The following day she was wearing the same outfit but mixed it up by wearing the dress backwards! Denim in general is back on the fashion radar as the denim jacket returns as a wardrobe staple. A denim dress, however, is a great Spring addition as it's slightly too heavy for the summer but perfect for the current unpredictable climate.

Denim featured heavily on the catwalks at Mulberry and Chanel where it appeared in a work-wear style rather than sticking to just jeans. It is never a good idea to wear the fabric from head to toe, instead opt for one item of denim as it goes with almost anything! See below for just some of the denim dresses available.

You can never have enough dresses. This In God We Trust Shirley Denim Dress ($120, originally $235), is a Fab option. The denim dress is a cute and classic staple every gal should have in her wardrobe. The great thing about this one is you can wear it alone in the Summer, and paired with a thin sweater in the Winter. And, wouldn't this look great with a patent red belt? So many options, so much time . . .

Denim is a tricky fabric to work with, especially when it's used on dresses. This 7 For All Mankind One Shoulder Denim Mini Dress ($172) would be lovely in another fabric, but the denim makes it seem outdated and stiff. Nice try 7 For All Mankind, but I'll stick to just wearing your jeans. What are your thoughts?

Trend Alert: The LDD

While the nights are balmy, swap out your LBD for a LDD: little denim dress. I'm not talking about just any denim frock; think body-con cuts and dark washes. Personally, I like to pair my LDDs with metallic flats, but you can also dress them up with sleek heels, like AnnaLynne McCord, for an extra sexy appeal. This look is perfect for rooftop parties, pool parties, casual dinners, and everything else Summer. In fact, I think I'll slip into my Marc Jacobs denim corset dress for a dinner date tonight. There's no time like the present, right?

Trend Alert: Stonewash Denim Dresses

The current '80s revival has brought stonewashed denim back in to the limelight. On the whole, I'm not particularly fond of this retro fabric, especially when it comes to skinny jeans. I find that the light tones tend to look unflattering, however, I do quite like pale denim dresses.

Stonewashed frocks are popping up all over the High Street and I can't help but fall for their girlish charm. Many of these styles have defined waists and voluminous skirts making the look even more feminine. I especially like Topshop's open backed style (£45) which would look great with a pair of cute flats. I also like Gio Goi Button-up pinafore (£75) which has a retro feel.

Doesn't a denim dress just take you back to camp or, if you can remember that far back, the sand box? Denim dresses have a very youthful feel about them so, make sure to pick a style that is appropriate for your age. I for one adore this first MJ option, but feel I only have a few years left to wear it (I'm 27). Screw it! I may just have to get it anyway! Here are my picks.

2010 Spring: Calvin Klein, CK Jeans, and CK Underwear

Clean. Precise. Minimal. Three terms Calvin Klein wants you to use when describing its Spring '10 collection. Staying true to the house's less-is-more aesthetic, Francisco Costa has delivered a line of basics with a sexy utilitarian nature. You'll find organic fabrics and most colors of the rainbow: sand, white, and khaki as staples, canary, melon, poppy, fuchsia, turquoise, and cobalt as accents. Drawstring cargos, denim vests, fitted blazers, parkas, denim judo pants, and shirt dresses are all solid. But one print piece stands out as the cool black sheep: a black-and-white, tie-dye dress that's feminine and bold.

Swimsuits are also part of the Spring family - a two-piece in warm gray and a one piece in solid gray or gray Bengal print. The handbags are equally minimal; hobos, totes, and rounded clutches are smooth and unstructured, with gold and silver hardware. Wooden-stacked heels and flat sandals are au naturel and sporty.

Sneak Peek! Ann Taylor, Fall '09

Ann Taylor has really stepped it up these days. The retailer adopted a more trend-conscious aesthetic and it recently hired Heidi Klum to be its cashmere model! I'm quite impressed by its Fall collection. There is a look for every girl and the styling has been executed flawlessly. Casual denim, puffer jackets, coats, and wow-worthy red dresses and skirts are all must haves. I'm thinking this Wool Bow Coat ($295) needs to come home with me. Proceed to shop my favorite looks.

Trend Alert: Winter Retreat

It's bound to happen. Everyone starts to hibernate as the days get shorter and the temp gets colder. However, that's no excuse to dress drab. I suggest making your Winter retreat a fashionable one via buffalo plaid, sherpa-lined denim, laced boots, and boyfriend jeans.
