Fab Finding Follow-Up: Cal Football Game

The big Cal football game happened recently, and though I'm not a big football fan, PartySugar is. She and a group of friends went to support their alma mater, so I asked you to help her look stylish and sporty. But there was an important stipulation: her outfit has to incorporate blue and gold, UC Berkeley's colors.

I'll start you off with these Hue Denim Leggings ($28) because they will make her look, not feel, dressed up. Let's see my favorite look!

I'm super smitten with azulskies's outfit. It's spunky, yet sporty, and incorporates Cal's colors. I think I need those yellow Chucks.

Trend Alert: Denim Leggings

Leggings lovers unite. I must admit, I was unsure about denim leggings until I tried on a pair. Let's just say I was very pleasantly surprised. Not only do they look like skinny jeans, they're much more comfortable. I like wearing my Charley 5.0 leggings with a top and blazer for a more polished look, and with flip-flops and a tee when I'm feeling like a surfita. You might be resistant, but don't knock it until you try it . . .

Victoria Beckham Creates Sleeker, Chicer Denim For Spring

Say so long to dVb and hello to Victoria Beckham Denim. The posh mama, who practically lives in her skinny jeans, is giving her denim a high-end makeover come Spring '10. This time around, the line will focus on funky cigarette styles in classic hues and pastel colors, as well as a vintage range. Denim jackets, boyfriend jeans, cutoff shorts, and leggings are also part of the new mix. With such refinement also comes a higher price tag - the collection starts at $230. Will you participate?

Look of the Day: Leather and Denim

I've been wanting to wear a pair of suede leggings I recently bought, but the decadent textile makes it hard to dress down. That is, until I saw Emiliebirkin's killer combo. Her leather and denim emotes a casual, sexy appeal. It's ideal for daytime dressing and I like how she accessorized with a belt and Louis Vuitton bag for extra flair.

Designer Spotlight: Dittos

It really is amazing how fashion recycles itself; Dittos are back! The brand known for curve-hugging cuts, a slightly flared leg, and U-turn stitching down the backside was huge in the 70s: the It jeans of the time, if you will.

Frankie B.'s designer Daniella Clarke has reintroduced the colorful high-rise bell-bottoms in all their bright-colored glory. They also come in blue denim washes and classic white, and are available for $159-$175 from Revolve Clothing, Intermix, and Shopbop.

Trend Alert: Sharp Trousers

It's tempting to wear the usual jeans, leggings, or tights during cold months, but I double dare you to try something new. Just look to Rachel Bilson for inspiration. Instead of donning the expected denim and top combo, the cutie paired a crisp white shirt with a pair of sharp trousers.

Note: these pants are all about the perfect fit. Ankle or cropped lengths can be flattering, just don't forget to complement them with fresh footwear.

Skinny jeans and leggings have been two key items for many seasons. They may have changed colour but the tight fitting shape has remained constant.

It's not a big surprise then that the two have combined for Spring 2009 to create denim leggings, or should that be denim treggings? Kate Bosworth has already been spotted in a pair and they're popping up all over the High Street from as little as £12.

Alternatively, for a high fashion version try Rick Owens or Opening Ceremony where they feature more detail. Wear with animal print for this season's bad taste trend. See below for some denim leggings currently available.

The Look For Less: Paige Denim Black Label Skinny Leather Pants

It takes a while to warm up to leather pants because of their motorcycle-biker connotation, but surprisingly, a lot of you would wear them. My philosophy is less biker, more rocker, with a feminine twist. I have a pair of liquid leggings, but pants are cool because you can wear them with more cropped tops. These Paige Denim Black Label Skinny Leather Pants ($398) would be heavenly with an airy ivory chiffon blouse and a loose cardigan. But since I don't need real leather, I found a faux pair that's equally chic and not as pricey.

Class Act: Skinny Jeans Fitness Workout

I won't lie, the name caught my attention: Skinny Jeans Workout, a place where denim and my hamstrings collide. I find the fashion / fitness connection slightly amusing, but the 45 minute class left me more than slightly sweaty. It truly is a sculpting workout that borrows from a diverse array of fitness methods. We did lunges of all sorts, from the basic forward variety to the criss-crossing curtsy lunge. We did squat variations. We even did multiple Warrior 3s. My legs and glutes were worked from all angles ensuring that every fiber was taxed. There were sections of the workout that felt rather balletic too; these moves really worked the deep glute muscles that help lift the seat. The class kept moving, and my heart rate stayed pumping for most of the class. The first 35 minutes of the class are standing and there is an emphasis on standing tall and keeping your chest open, since part of looking good in your skinny jeans is postural. I have heard that slouching can make a person look 10 pounds heavier. The ab work is very Pilates based, with cuing to keep the abs pulled to the spine - a phrase you can't make it through a Pilates session without hearing repeatedly.

I will definitely take this class again and recommend it. This class is currently offered at many Equinox locations, but look for a version at a gym near you.
