Even though we're still in August, thoughts are inevitably returning to September and the start of the school year. Even if you aren't returning to school this Fall (and you don't have any little ones that are, either), you can still get the look at home with these cool finds. Good, Better, Best: Classical Computer Armoires

Not all of us have the luxury of a separate home office. And for anyone who works in a multi-purpose room - such as a living room or guest room - a computer armoire is a great buy.

These workstations are large enough to contain all of your tech needs, and the elegant doors let you hide your clutter when the desk isn't in use. So for this Good, Better, Best, I've rounded up some classically styled computer armoires at three different price points.

Best: I love the old-world Japanese elegance of this Gump's Shinto Office Armoire ($3,400). It's made from solid walnut and joined without a single nail, and details include sliding doors in the back to help manage your wires.

TreadDesk: It's Part of the Floor

There are many walking desks out there for people looking to move while they work, but check out the TreadDesk. This one can be built into your floor allowing you to roll your chair over it, which makes this walking desk seem less like a gym and more like your office. The desk's height is adjustable, so you can sit at this workstation or raise the desk and stand, stretch, or turn on the treadmill and walk.

The tread itself costs $695, and you can lay it on top of your present floor, but if you want it to be part of the floor, they offer laminate-flooring options. It costs about $4 to $12 per square foot, depending on the style you choose. The desk comes in six sizes, but if you need a different size, it can be custom built. What's great about these is the little button underneath that allows you to raise the desk so you can stand. These range in price from $900 to $1500. The whole system isn't cheap, but I think it's definitely worth the moolah since most people can spend over seven hours sitting at their desk. Why sit when you can burn calories walking instead?

Totally Geeky or Geek Chic? iGo Mac Desk

Have you seen these new minimalistic iGo desks for the iMac and Mac mini? At first I thought the zero desk space is just a bad idea, but then I realized that most of my calendars, planners, to do lists and notes are now on the computer anyways. Ranging in price from $333 to $500, the iGo desk is now available for iMac G4 and 17" and 20" iMac (Intel Core Duo and G5). I do think its versatility is pretty cool as it has a cinematic display that allows you to swirl and squeeze it into any space. What are your thoughts?

Crave Worthy: MASH Studios LAX Wall-Mounted Desk

While I do think the Crate & Barrel Sloane Leaning Desk I recently showed you is ideal for small spaces like studios, another option is a wall-mounted desk, which frees up floor space. I'm salivating over this MASH Studios LAX Wall-Mounted Desk ($720), in particular. Its English walnut frame is luxurious but relaxed at the same time. Another great feature is its sliding, white, powder-coated aluminum doors which run across a grooved track, allowing you to keep some of your office gear on display and your messy paperwork smartly hidden. But make no mistake, this desk would look sharp in a home of any size, and considering the price, it may not be affordable for those starving recent grads living in compact studios.

One Less Desk Is One More Desk I Want

I have a hard time keeping my desk clean already, but this desk would have a problem staying clear of my drool. It's that pretty. Sure, it's spare and simple, but it's not lacking in the right kind of details.

With One Less Desk ($650), you get a clean, great-looking desk with a tiny footprint - and instead of a keyboard tray or taking up more space, there's a second, lower "deck" for your keyboard, mouse pad, and other peripherals. And when you look at the rear, you find built-in nooks and crannies to wrap your cables around before things get out of control and you need to outsource to extra things like this!

And let's state the obvious: This desk was built for Macs. Available in Apple white or gray, you can match or contrast with a MacBook or MB Pro (even the vents are the same!). But PCs could still rock this, if they're warming to that Mac look a little, hmmm?

Before and After: A Fresh Secretary Desk

Christiana Coop of Ferm Living recently shared a DIY project of hers on her blog Clever Spaces, finding yet another use for Ferm's gorgeous wallpaper. She decided to update a Target Secretary Desk ($144.99) by priming and painting it white, and wallpapering the interior with the Ferm Wild Flower (Green) Wallpaper ($115). By measuring the inside sections of the desk first, and then using an adhesive spray to keep them down, the project was pretty breezy. And, to keep the paper intact as the desk is used, Coop sprayed it with a protective coating. To see the impressive results, read more.

Connect-a-Desk: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

The Connect-a-desk is not the first time I've seen a desk-free laptop desk - remember the Lindo wrap-around hip desk? That was voted "freakish" by a landslide, and ThinkGeek's version hasn't really made the concept any more palatable.

For 40 bucks, you get the ability to walk around while using your laptop, but for $40, you may suddenly not know yourself anymore.

It's not that it can't be useful - the question is really - is usefulness worth the price of your dignity? But am I being too harsh? What do you think?
