If you don't want to make Milano cookies for your sweetheart, you could prepare the sandwich dessert that's pictured below instead. Do you know what it's called?

This year for Valentine's Day, I wanted to make something special for my nonexistent boyfriend, but I couldn't decide between luxurious red velvet cake or rich fudgey brownies. While I was pondering this dilemma, I suddenly remembered an old recipe for brownie heart cupcakes. Inspired by Martha, I decided to combine the best of both worlds and make red velvet cupcakes with pink cream cheese frosting and brownie heart garnish.

I should have put self-control on my list of New Year's resolutions, because I haven't been able to resist temptation this month, especially when it comes to nostalgic candies, dragées, or any charming confection. At least one publisher appealed to my weakness when I received a copy of Peter Greweling's Chocolates and Confections at Home With the Culinary Institute of America ($23), I think my heart actually skipped a beat. Did it let me down?

No romantic dinner is complete without a sweet finish and an occasion like Valentine's Day requires chocolate. Select a dish that's decadent, but can be made in advance. I recommend these creamy chocolate pots.

Spotting a wide array of frozen desserts at this year's Fancy Foods Show reminded me of a burning question that hasn't melted away: Are sorbet, sherbet, and sherbert all the same?

There's nothing quite as comforting, all-American, or nostalgic as homemade apple pie. While I'm a huge fan of the classic version, when I came across this recipe for apple pie bars, I got really excited. I'm always on the lookout for desserts that can be made in advance, are portable, and don't require utensils and a plate.

This week, I'm helping my friends Alex and Ryan plan the ultimate Super Bowl party. While these bachelors aren't new to partying, they are novice hosts. They'll keep it casual and fun, but with the help of some easy homemade dishes, kick things up a notch.

A couple of years ago, I hosted a fondue party for Valentine's Day. I thought it would be fun to dip marshmallows into chocolate fondue and, always one to pay special attention to little details, I wanted heart-shaped, pale pink marshmallows. Since pink heart marshmallows are not sold, I decided to try making them.

FabSugar and I are totally obsessed with the card game Apples to Apples. We love it so much that we're gathering an intimate group to play the game. Fab's providing the party space and I'm in charge of the cuisine.

Much like a sour cream coffee cake, this sticky and sweet cinnamon-tinged pastry is a comforting delight for breakfast. Do you know what it's called?
