Although I can't deny the deliciousness of a slice of classic, cinnamon-laced pumpkin pie, in recent years, I've expanded my horizons to somewhat non-traditional Thanksgiving desserts. Pecan pie? Surprisingly easy, yet wildly delicious.

If you prefer to entertain this season with dainty, bite-sized desserts like these pumpkin brownies, chances are, you'd also flip for the small, custardy French pastry, flavored with rum and vanilla, pictured below. Can you identify it?

If you've volunteered (or been assigned) to bring a dessert to a Thanksgiving potluck, don't run to the nearest bakery. You can bake a delicious homemade treat that will impress your friends and family! Start by selecting an unexpected dessert like caramel-walnut pie.

Although we've shifted our focus from tricks and treats to turkeys and stuffing, this morning while browsing the YumSugar Community, I couldn't help but marvel at the assortment of Halloween dishes you made and shared!
How cool is this haunted house cake that Kerryc5 made? Goes to show that gingerbread houses can be enjoyed at Halloween, too!

Whether you're throwing or attending a Halloween bash this weekend, chances are you'll need some flavorful frights to go with whatever hard drinks you're having on All Hallow's Eve. Go ghoulish — but not too gruesome! — with a treat that's also a bit of a trick: bony witches' fingers.

The Top Chef news of the week came early yesterday morning when we learned that Bravo was sweetening its line of spinoffs with a 2010 show called Top Chef: Just Desserts.
Since the whole Top Chef franchise is starting to tire out for at least a few of us, I thought I'd get everybody pumped for the new show (and National Dessert Month!) by testing your knowledge of classic desserts from around the world.
I'll spit out a picture, and you tell me what dessert it depicts.

Since vampires are so hot right now, I'm jumping on the bandwagon and throwing a fangtastic Halloween party. The savory menu consists of fun finger foods, so to ensure that no extra plates and utensils are necessary, I'm serving a portable, pop-in-your mouth dessert. No vampire travels without a coffin — unless he has a special ring like the Salvatore Brothers — that's why these almond brownie coffins fit the theme perfectly.

As much as I love celebrating Halloween, some parts of it — like haunted houses, trick-or-treating, and even certain kinds of candy — remind me I'm not a kid anymore. That's why I've decided to introduce some alternative, homemade confections that are refined enough for even an adult gourmand such as myself. Curious to know what my new candy favorites are?

Since I require a weekly fix of tart frozen yogurt with fresh fruit, it wasn't until last week when I taste-tested Häagen-Dazs's new tart natural fro-yo that I discovered a whole contingent of co-workers can't stand the taste. What do you think of it?
