I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of tough love. Being direct reduces the chance of misunderstandings, and when trying to get a point across, why waste time beating around the bush? Some people, however, don't do well with that kind of forthrightness. Do you respond well to tough love?

Dial DIR-ECT-IONS Gets Guests to the Wedding on Time!

I've talked about Dial DIR-ECT-IONS (347-328-4667) and its awesomeness before, but did you know that this handy, free service can be used for your wedding day as well? Just go to the site and click on the event section. Say name of the event (wedding, reception, etc.), as well as your starting address or intersection. On the big day, guests can call DIR-ECT-IONS to get all the info via text message! If you do decide to utilize this great service, be sure to let all your guests know about it on your wedding website!

If you don't have time to text google for address help you can always call the free cell phone service Dial DIR-ECT-IONS (347-328-4667) for maps and directions.

Our friends at Switched wrote about the company last week and after learning that Dial Dir-ect-ions sends driving directions to your phone via SMS, I decided to test it out. All you have to do is call the number and step through the voice-activated menus, by telling it your starting and destination points.

Right now the service only works in nine cities, but more are on the way. It's a lot easier than pulling over at the gas station.

LC Struts Her LA Stuff

Lauren Conrad looked gorgeous showing off a few sassy Summer outfits for a photoshoot with LA Direct Magazine. The California girl is just as sunny in her interview as she is in the photos, talking about her great year and how far she's come since her days on Laguna Beach. Here are highlights:

“I always say this isn’t what I signed up for. I thought I signed up for a one-episode documentary."
“I feel like [the show] makes me look like I sit around all day and feel sorry for myself, but I’m actually a very happy person. Sometimes I want to reach into the TV and smack myself, and say ‘get over it.’”
“It’s been a crazy four years, but they’ve been amazing. I got to travel all around the world. I’ve met so many cool people. I’ve had all these opportunities. I’m really lucky. You got to take the good with the bad.”

Lauren has come a long way since those Laguna Beach days, but it's refreshing to hear her sound so grounded and humble. Plus, we love to hear that she's more upbeat than it sometimes seems on her show.

Fab Flash: Fashion Awareness Direct 2008

On Wednesday night the Fashion Awareness Direct awards took place celebrating the best young design talent from across the country. Alicia Stone, 21, from Nottingham Trent University (below left with her design) walked away with the top prize for her ‘wearable, buyable and covetable’ outfit. The design brief requested that students should create one outfit that could be transformed through additional layers, altering its silhouette to create a new outfit from the original piece. Alicia won £2000 and a work-placement in Madrid with prestigious Spanish brand Hoss Intropia.
Second prize went to De Montfort University student Jemma Simmons, 21 (above right with her design) whose design mixed prints and bold colours to create a unique on-trend jumpsuit.

The judging panel included Melanie Rickey (Fashion News and Features Editor, Grazia), Luisa de Paula (Buying & Merchandising Director, My-wardrobe.com), and Francesca Forcolini (owner of acclaimed London boutique, Labour of Love).

Patrick Dempsey Talks to Us About His Latest Scent

When Patrick Dempsey launched his first scent, Unscripted, late last year, I have to admit I was skeptical of another celebrity fragrance hitting the market. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle, clean scent, and even Mr. Bella - whose idea of a fun night out involves climbing mountains and camping in the woods sans showers - is a fan.

Patrick has been bitten by the fragrance bug once again. The launch of his latest scent, Patrick Dempsey 2 ($30), pays tribute to the intimacy between two people. (That's his wife in the ad campaign.) Southern (Indian) Thanksgiving

For a few years now I've wanted to try to marry the traditional Southern Indian food my husband grew up enjoying with Thanksgiving as I know it (Southern girl with a love of spice and heat). So this year I did a trial run of a tandoori-style turkey made in the oven.

By next year I hope to build my own tandoor, or at least grill this guy, because it needs a little more heat to crisp up properly. Even so, the meal turned out great! Tandoori turkey, tamarind gravy, creamed saag, masala mashed potatoes, and Whole Foods' naan, which has a slight dinner roll texture, so it works out perfectly for this blended meal. The tamarind gravy was an original creation (that I cannot believe turned out properly, it was sooooo good), and the other recipes were either inspired by or taken directly from The Food of India from Whitecap Books. I love their "food of" series, and my husband is impressed with the Indian recipes.

For the turkey, I followed the instructions from November's Martha Stewart Living to spatchcock a turkey and cooked according to their instructions after marinating for about 7 hours. Not including the marinade time, this meal came together in about 2 hours on a Friday night. Also, we discovered New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc complements Indian food perfectly.

Aziz Ansari Gets Three Thumbs Up From Judd Apatow

Am I asleep? Because this sounds like a match made in heaven - Judd Apatow (along with Universal Pictures) has just picked up not one, not two, but three comedies starring Aziz Ansari. The yet-to-be-written ideas were pitched by the Parks and Recreation star as well as Jason Woliner, who is on board to direct. So what kind of hijinks are in store? Here's the rundown:

Project No.1: For now, it's called Let's Do This, and it's about two guys who work for a motivational speaking company and a road trip. Sounds familiar, but still has potential to be very funny.
Project No. 2: In this one, Ansari will play an astronaut (already hilarious) who has to clear his reputation by heading back to outer space.
Project No. 3: The three projects are unrelated, but the third one is actually a spinoff of Apatow's Funny People, focusing on Ansari's character Randy.

When asked about the pitches, Ansari quipped, "We didn’t expect all three to work. We had a breakfast meeting with Judd and pitched them. We were like, 'Which one do you like?’ He wanted all three.' We are hesitant to say too much about our ideas. A few years ago, we announced our new idea about a film where the world ended in the year 2014. We have since had to stop developing this movie."
