PopSugar's Fall Favorite TV Picks

Tonight some of our favorite shows are returning and since Fall TV is officially here, enjoy my list of favorite new shows to watch. Sorry I am a bit late but considering Buzz has already dished on all her picks including, 5 to watch, 5 to skip and 5 she's on the fence with we know you have been very well informed already. The good news is Buzz and I agree on 4 out of her 5 to watch (sorry Reaper - we're just not that into you). The 4 shows we are obsessing over are Pushing Daises, Dirty Sexy Money, Chuck and Gossip Girl (the latter two brought to us by the genius Josh Schwartz who made our dreams come true).

As for the rest of my fall TV thoughts, read more

Chuck was the first show I started crushing on. The adorable Zachary Levi as a geeky guy who gets pulled into an Alias-like life just instantly grabbed my attention.

However, even cuter than Chuck is an equally dorky guy named, Ned. The pie maker from the fairy tale show, Pushing Daisies, is literally the sweetest character on TV this fall. Unlike most gratuitous sex scenes and phrases on TV these days, this show has a great story line about a couple who can't even touch yet it's very heartwarming.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Dirty Sexy Money. Peter Krause from Six Feet Under is now a lawyer for one of the richest families in NYC. It's hard to not get sucked into the life of the rich and well, the richer.

Which then leads us to Gossip Girl. High school. Rich kids. Josh Schwartz. Beautiful clothes and hair. What more could you want in an hour of TV? We're two episodes in and already talking non-stop to our friends about Team Serena vs Team Blair.

While all my shows may have a theme of dreamy men or rich Manhattenites, it's way more than that. Just trust me. As for a favorite 5th. The jury is still out. I want to like Big Shots but the pilot was way cheesy so it doesn't make the cut. I also want to like Private Practice but based on last night's episode, we're not so sure it's gonna happen. We're holding out that Cashmere Mafia is the 5th show but I have yet to see the pilot so I can't officially add it to the list.... yet.

So much TV. So little time so remember to manage it appropriately and if you haven't already, print out BuzzSugar's detailed night by night Fall TV Guide. Trust me, it makes setting your TiVo way easier!

Jessica and Dirty Daisy Flee NYC

Jessica Simpson just got into NYC earlier this week, but it looks like she and Daisy were already on their way out yesterday leaving their hotel on the way to JFK. Guess this means no Fashion Week for these two this year. Speaking of looking your best, Miss Daisy seems a little not-so-fresh these days. The cute pooch's coat could use some work, but thankfully it's nothing a little shampoo and conditioner couldn't fix. As for Jess, her hair's looking fab even under her favorite Cowboys hat. It's pretty cute that she keeps showing the love for Tony even when they aren't together.

Fab Flash: Diesel's Dirty Thirty Hits Stores Tomorrow

Attention denim junkies. Diesel's highly anticipated Dirty Thirty jeans are set to hit stores tomorrow at 10 a.m. - sharp. The commemorative $50 jeans, which honor the brand's 30th anniversary, have caused a frenzy with fans who are used to paying more than $100 for the pricey line. Out of the 30,000 pairs made, 8,000 will be available in the US.

The limited-edition jeans, seen left on Daisy Lowe, feature a "dirty wash," a back patch with a "xXx" logo, and special buttons reading "Diesel 1978." According to sources, store managers have even been approached with bribery to reserve the jeans. Are you ready for the madness?
Pop Watch: Pushing Daisies, Episode 9 "Corpsicle"

After the short season of Dirty Sexy Money ended last week with episode 10, sadly this week's ninth episode of Pushing Daisies is also the season finale, due to all that striking the writers' did last year. But fear not, if you need another Daisies fix, those nice people at ITV have also decided to put the episode that they missed out (episode 2 aka "Dummy") online, so you can watch it here! But for now, here's my thoughts on last night's episode:

For its final episode this series, the show left on a high note – with a great balance between drama and giggle-inducing cleverness.

I was so happy to return to Young Ned's Play-Doh world. It set the tone perfectly for the episode, which was oh-so-cute and yet oh-so-heartstring-tugging - from the aunts comforting Ned and Chuck on the day they both lost their parents to Lily's drug-induced revelation at the end.

For more of my thoughts and to leave your own, just read more

Lily is Chuck's mum? Whoa! I'm glad there's something tying the aunts (er, mum-and-aunt duo) tighter into the series, but I totally was not expecting this.

Does that explain Lily's caustic nature - I mean, "motherly" wouldn't come to mind - I wonder how much of that is due to losing her only daughter. Also, does Vivian know? Chuck certainly doesn't seem to.

Oh, and poor Chuck. She's usually so chipper, but she was really down in this episode - no surprise, given that she'd just learned her soulmate killed her dad. She came so close to letting Oscar know her secret, but she pulled back, so now the only person who knows is Olive, who thinks the whole "I was dead" thing was just a way for Chuck to stop talking.

It would be easy to skip over the Corpse of the Week, but the case offered some comic relief in a heavy episode. It must have been fun for the writers, who usually work with such cheery material, to create the character of miserable little Abner ("I said lap dance, not tap dance!").

And Emerson has a daughter! Yet another new secret.

As much as I loved Emerson and Ned's exchange with the coroner in his holiday jumper, Emerson's line was my favourite: "And you slipped in word vomit and fell on your ass and now you're covered in word vomit."

Oscar calling a bludgeoning "a unique sensory experience" was super creepy. I hope he's back when the show returns.

So, now I want to hear from you – do you think it was the right call for Ned not to wake up Chuck's father? Could Lily's revelation be just a hallucinatory rant? And how will you cope with that cliffhanger? I already want this show back! Don't forget to <a href="check out episode 2 online and let me know what you think of that one too!

Photos copyright 2008 ABC, Inc.

Never Carry a Slobbery Ball Back From the Dog Park Again!

It's another great idea! It may look like a standard tennis ball/plush toy combo for your pampered pooches when in fact it's an item that makes your life easier.

Don't let your pups play with Daisy the Lab ($5) – you see, this doggie head clips onto your pets' leashes, or your bag. It comes with the tennis ball shown, but fits any standard sized one. So, if your dog doesn't want to carry the toy the entire way in his chompers, let this fella do the dirty work (especially after he's done slobbering it)!

Source

Pop Watch: Dirty Sexy Money, Ep 2 "The Lions"

Last night's Dirty Sexy Money improved on last week's episode by giving me plenty of Brian being childish. And a little Jeremy being amusing too. So, without further ado, here's my thoughts and a recap. I really want to hear what you thought of this second episode – are you as intrigued by all this as I am?

So, to recap slightly, Nick is fairly certain that someone murdered his father, and has been trying to get in contact with the airplane mechanic who hasn't called him back. And his secretary, Daisy, has been trying to work out the password for his dad's briefcase. The episode opened with a comparison between Tripp and Nick's morning routines. I think I'd prefer to be in Nick's position, at least he actually laughs in the morning. Plus I don't think I could handle asparagus for breakfast.

Meanwhile, the Darling family is preparing for a photo shoot for the launch of Patrick's Senate campaign. I'd quite like a beauty salon in my house, I think. Karen wants to include her husband Freddy in the photoshoot, but Letitia says no. Then we cut to Carmelita and Patrick saying that he's not running for Senate after all, he also promises to tell his wife about their affair.

Jeremy visits Juliet, whose independence has forced her all the way to a New York hotel(!) and tries to get her to come home, but she's not interested. I love these two. Independence on Daddy's money. Her only worry is that the Penthouse suite was not available, and asks her twin brother to go and find out who is in there.

For more of my thoughts on this episode, and the rest of the recap, just read more

Brian's gorgeous illegitimate son is still causing issues in Brian's life, but the holy man is being hilariously stubborn and has decided he'll introduce him to his family as an orphan whose parents were killed in a bullet train accident in Sweden. So he's a Swedish orphan. But only until his mother takes him back. As you know, I love Brian – he really makes me laugh, he's so childish. Tripp calls Nick to a meeting to discuss the photo session which will be held at their mansion. And Nick's entrusted to make sure everyone gets there. When Nick gets back into his office he hears that Juliet isn't coming to the shoot, and Brian's son is in his office. Alone. Brian's letting Nick deal with him.

The plane mechanic tells Nick that the $100,000 Brian paid him (that Nick was suspicious about) was blackmail money, as he had heard Dutch (Nick's Dad) talking to Brian about his illegitimate son. Meanwhile, with the twins, Jeremy makes his way up into the penthouse and finds a scantily clad girl (Natalie) that he knows and apparently has had fun with in the past. He gets visibly nervous by her, but his brain is overruled by another part of his anatomy and so he stays to make out with her.

Patrick tells Tripp that he doesn't want to run for Senate after all, he wants to get out of politics altogether, and that photo shoot? It's not happening. Tripp hints pretty clearly he knows about Patrick's extra-curricular activities and lets him know if that comes out he'll help him face those revelations. He uses his 'Dad card' – "make me proud" – and Patrick seems to consent.

Back at the mansion, Karen's getting fitted for her wedding dress and tells Nick to tell her man Freddy that he can't be in the shoot. Meanwhile, Nick's wife is partly amused and partly annoyed by all this Darling activity. And Jeremy lies to Juliet about who's staying in the penthouse, saying there's a chef up there. He seems a little... stunned from his experiences upstairs, and wants to get out of the hotel.

Letitia is not happy with Tripp pushing Patrick into the Senate, and we find out they both know about Carmelita and Patrick. Nick tells Letitia he knows about her affair with his father, and the police's suspicions. She's not sure if Tripp knew about the affair, but she mentions Tripp's diary, saying he would have written about it. Nick gets his hands on it, but the only suspicious entry is an unreadable one from the day Dutch died. Mysterious...

The mother of Brian's illegitmate son, Andrea, leaves the country, but Brian still won't take his son. So Nick has to look after him, and he brings him to the photo shoot. Lions!! There's lions in their house for the photoshoot! Enter annoying-Rebecca, family publicist. Nick tells Freddy he can't be in the shot, and Karen's soon-to-be-hubby decides it's because Nick's still in love with Karen. Then Tripp speaks Swedish to Brian Jnr, who obviously doesn't understand a word of it... it's a madhouse. This madness gets to Nick and he confesses to the entire family (including a fake Juliet) that he took the diary and adds that he suspects Tripp of killing Dutch. Understandably, Tripp is upset, but doesn't give any hints that he knew about the affair.

Nick convinces Brian to see his son, and I really enjoyed Brian trying his best to connect with his Brian Jnr whilst taking him home, but he's still only having him in the house in the guise of being a Swedish orphan. Oh dear. After the shoot Jeremy tries to sneak up to see penthouse Natalie, but Juliet catches him in the hallway and she's really unhappy as she used to be BFFs with her until they had a huge argument. About their hair I think. I am loving Jeremy, he's so funny in this episode... and then he ends up sleeping with Natalie. (BTW Karen will always love Nick, as she confesses in a drunken phonecall, having convinced herself that what Freddy said earlier was true. Delusional...)

Carmelita tells Patrick to run for Senate if that's what he wants to do, and he agrees. Nick returns the journal to Tripp, who gives him a guess for the briefcase code - Letitia's birthday. It works, and Tripp looks devastated (a great and affecting bit of acting from Donald Sutherland), admitting he did know about his wife's affair. In the briefcase, there's a lot of top secret info about billionaire Simon Elder.

Tripp says that Nick should start with Simon in his investigations... And so we look forward to next week – who's Simon Elder and how is he mixed up in all this? And what's going to happen with Brian's son? And Jeremy and Natalie? Let me know what you thought of this ep in the comments below – I can already feel that I'm going to get addicted to this show. Love it.

Pop Watch: Dirty Sexy Money, Ep 1 "Pilot"

So, in last night's first episode of Dirty Sexy Money we were introduced to the mad, excessive world of the Darlings and their new (gorgeous) family lawyer Nick George. Poor Nick – his childhood was ruled by the wealthy family and now his adult life is going to be too. At least until he finds out what actually happened to his father.

What did you think of the family? I have to say I love Donald Sutherland as Tripp. I think he's the perfect patriarch for the brood, so dashing and with those amazing twinkly eyes. And Natalie Zea as Karen got some priceless moments, including when she tempted Nick into a bad-looking situation in front of his gorgeous wife played by Zoe McLellan. I can see hostility growing and growing between those two women. Karen had the pick of the one-liners, from saying "Nick deflowered me" in Nick's office to open a meeting between Nick and her future husband Freddy, to denying she was drunk by saying she'd only had one scotch. Love her.

For more of my thoughts on the ep, just read more

Jeremy and Juliet are a great couple of characters too, with all the maturity of a newborn baby between them. I guess that's what money can do. Nick's first family problem was Jeremy winning that boat, and the fact it came with a crew of illegal immigrants. Oh dear. I also grinned when Jeremy's "Born To Be Wild" ringtone played on Nick's phone – Nick's secretary Daisy has a fab sense of humour. Although it was bad timing when Karen's ringtone "Pretty Woman" played, that's for sure. And Juliet – although it's nice to see Samaire Armstrong back on our screens, I definitely prefer her with some street smarts. Juliet is so spoiled! But it's good to see her attempting to rebel against her family by moving out to try and make it on her own. With Daddy's money of course...

The Rev. Brian Darling is another of my favourite family members. He is hilarious, especially as the series goes on. Another incredibly immature adult, Brian immediately reverts to a seven-year-old around Nick, for instance – that incredibly girlie fight they had at Letitia and Tripp's engagement party. And the fact he's trying to get his son into that brilliant school without admitting he's his son... I don't know where to begin. He's ridiculous. And a Reverend?!?! That storyline will go to some very amusing places, let me tell you. I would definitely keep watching the show.

What did you think about politician Patrick and his affair with the gorgeous transsexual Carmelita. How stunning is she? Apparently Candis Cayne is the first transsexual to play a transsexual character on a primetime show. I love her and her character's relationship with Patrick, which also gets them into some very amusing situations later in the series. Patrick tempted Nick back in to the family dramas after he'd quit at the party – Nick's just way too good a guy to leave them all to their own devices. I suppose his life has been intertwined with theirs since he can remember, for better or worse, so I'm sure it would be odd without them.

And the first possible piece in Nick's puzzle was set into place. His father was having an affair with Letitia for forty years. Did Tripp know? Is that the reason he died in the crash? Will it have some other ramifications? Well, a) Possibly. b) Probably not as it's so early in the series. And c) of course! This is just the beginning, and remember it's the pilot episode – time to introduce everyone and lay the bare bones of the series. The real fun begins in episode two, and I'd highly recommend you stick around and watch next week's episode too. I certainly will be!

So let me know what you thought. Does it remind you of Dallas? My friends and family have been drawing comparisons between the two. Who do you love? Who do you loathe? What are your first impressions of the show? I can't wait to hear what you thought.

Pop Preview: Dirty Sexy Money

We're in this weird stage at the moment TV-wise. There's a whole flock of new shows slowly starting over here, that have been running for a while pre-Writers' Strike in the US, so we've heard little bits about them but haven't had the chance to watch them in full yet. Earlier this week I mentioned the lovely Pushing Daisies to you, and now I'm going to introduce Dirty Sexy Money. And let me tell you, it's an absolutely delicious show starting Friday at 9pm on Channel 4!

Full of double-crossing family members with a central mystery running through the centre, the show focuses on Nick George (played by yummy Six Feet Under star Peter Krause) who has to take over as family lawyer to the infamous Darlings when his father is killed in a mysterious plane crash.

For more info and photos, as well as a preview, just read more

Nick pretty much lost out on his own childhood with his father as his Dad was always clearing up the Darlings' messes instead of spending time with him, so, as you can imagine, there's a little resentment there. Still, Tripp Darling (Donald Sutherland) offers him what he wants, so he says yes. The family problems include freeloading spouses, illegal immigrants and a relationship with a transvestite hooker. And that's just the beginning. Here's a little taste of the pilot:

The cast is awesome, from Donald and Peter to Samaire Armstrong (The OC) as a spoiled Paris Hilton-alike. But my favourite characters are Reverend Brian Darling (Glenn Fitzgerald) who's a hilariously mean and sulky vicar, and kooky Karen Darling (Natalie Zea) who has claims on the married Nick as her first love, telling her most recent husband, "Nick deflowered me...". Brilliant.

I would highly recommend you watch the show tomorrow night, and give it a few episodes to get into it. I love it more and more with each episode I see, and you won't believe some of the things the family get up to. It will definitely satisfy your slightly voyeuristic side, that's for sure.

Here's a trailer to get you in the mood –

Anna Friel Returns In Pushing Daisies

One of my favourite new shows from the US is Pushing Daisies which will start over here soon on ITV. The cast, including our very own lovely Anna Friel, got together for Media's 25th annual Paley Television Festival in Hollywood at the weekend. The show's about a man called Ned who discovered as a boy if he touches someone who (or something that) is dead they'll come back to life, but if it's for longer than one minute, someone else in the vicinity will die to take their place.

View 14 Photos ›

Friel plays his momentarily-dead childhood crush, Chuck. Oh, and if Ned touches someone who he's brought back again, they'll die. Forever. It's a bittersweet fairytale plot that gets all the more interesting when a grumpy Private investigator learns of Ned's skill and exploits it to solve murders and pick up the rewards. There's so much more to the programme (for one, the beautiful cinematography), and I'd highly recommend you watch when it starts in the UK. Of course, I'll have updates for you before the date.

You should definitely check out the trailer below, just read more

Speaking of US TV, Dirty Sexy Money starts over here on Friday, and I recommend you start, and stick with, that show. It's comic and complex and I'll have more about it for you later in the week!
