Fragrance Review: Dolce & Gabbana The One

The latest fragrance from Dolce & Gabbana is The One. You've probably seen the ads, featuring Gisele Bundchen doing the sexy-lady thing she does so well. (Still, when I see "The One," I can't stop thinking of the Backstreet Boys.)

The One is a warm, floral Oriental fragrance. It has top notes of bergamot and mandarin, with touches of lychee and peach. The heart note is more floral, and as the fragrance dries down, you can smell notes of vanilla and sweet amber. I expected this fragrance to be overtly sexy, much like the gorgeous dresses Dolce & Gabbana are known for. What I got, though, was somethin' else. Find out what it was when you read more

When I received the Eau de Parfum, I giddily opened it. I gave a spritz to my arm and waited for my sexy aura to become unmistakable. While that technically happened, it was a very special kind of sexiness: The sexiness embodied in Blanche Devereaux. Y'see, the scent leans just a little too much into the "mature" side of things. I even asked DannySF to take a sniff-and without me saying anything to him, he said, "It's nice... but it's a little old-lady."

That sums it up pretty well: It's a nice enough scent, but certainly not a signature fragrance-and definitely not something I'd expect to smell on a very young woman. If you're a huge D&G fan, you might want to try this, but otherwise, it's just so-so. Finally, I found the commercial for the fragrance, which manages to make Gisele seem like a demanding diva. I'm sure she's just acting (I've heard through the grapevine that she's super down-to-earth) but the ad certainly doesn't make me want to smell The One.

IMG Models have confirmed that uber gorgeous super model Gisele Bündchen will walk only one runway at Milan Fashion Week. It will be next Thursday for the Fall 2007 Dolce & Gabbana show. This is the first show she has walked for them since Spring 2003. Her spokesperson said:

“Gisele has a fragrance with Dolce and is doing their show exclusively in Milan next week.”

Oooh, sounds like an upcoming Beauty Byte to me! The fragrance referred to is The One by Dolce & Gabbana , and will be launched in the U.S. this summer. No fair - it has already been available in Europe for months!

The One features the Brazilian beauty in both print and television ads. This is the first new fragrance launched by the Italian duo since their licensing deal with Proctor & Gamble Prestige Products in December 2005.

We can't wait to see the gazelle-like Gisele dressed in Dolce at the show on Thursday. At least we know she'll smell great!

2010 Spring Milan Fashion Week: Dolce & Gabbana

It was all about passion and romance at Dolce & Gabbana's Spring showing at Milan Fashion Week. Showing utmost creative capability, the designers made a heavenly mix of sexy menswear-inspired suits, lace dresses, floral-printed separates, blouson shorts, and tiered frocks. "[The collection] is sexy, but not too sexy. . . . We're talking about sensuality," said Domenico Dolce. And that they did via bold, leopard prints, scintillating corsets, and a slick play on see-through dressing via black netting and mesh.

There was no limit to their imagination - the duo drew influences spanning from Madonna to Sicily - and created something for everyone. Classic, sophisticated gals will undoubtedly immerse themselves in Dolce & Gabbana's vintage white-lace dresses; hip darlings can revel in their floral and animal printed pieces; and sporty minimalists can celebrate in their selection of tailored suits. The emerging odd trend of the season - pantless one-pieces - were prominent and some of my favorite for Spring thus far. Bravi Domenico and Stefano!

Love it or Hate it: Dita von Teese in Milan

Celebrities are flocking to Milan this week as fashion week takes place with some of the biggest names in the industry. Prada, Fendi and Dolce & Gabbana have already presented their Spring lines and received front row support from very stylish ladies. Dita von Teese is one of these and she looked glamorous last night at the amFAR party. She wore a pink satin Dolce and Gabbana dress with black loafers. What do you think of her party ensemble?

Whose New Fragrance Ad Do You Like Better- Mariah's or Scarlett's?

The rumors have been swirling for the past few weeks that Scarlett Johansson, the face of Dolce & Gabbana's new makeup line, would also be fronting the design house's new scent, Rose The One ($48 to $90). Today, People confirms with a first look at the new ad. On the other front, the ad for Mariah Carey's new fragrance, Mariah Carey Forever, has also just been released. Both endorsements feature the stars dressed in slinky, form-fitting gowns while striking seductive poses. Each ad also works in a monotone element, with warm, café au lait shades in Mariah's and soft, rosy tones in Scarlett's. If you had to choose your favorite of the duo, which one wins out?

Sneak Peek! Zara, Fall '09

Zara's look books are always dangerous territory - they tempt us with runway-inspired looks for way less. For Fall '09, Toni Garrn models LBDs with prominent shoulders a la Balmain, faux fur vests, tweed coats, military-inspired details, and lots of crisp white shirts. This one puffed-shoulder dress is clearly inspired by Dolce and Gabbana's Fall line. I have to be frank, Zara's Fall '08 with Sasha Pivovarova tempted me way more, but that doesn't mean I won't still go into the store. Who knows, I may even fall in love, like I often do in Zara. What do you think?

Cate Blanchett Helps Vogue Australia Celebrate 50

What better way for Vogue Australia to celebrate its big 5-0 than to have Cate Blanchett on its cover. Or rather, covers. The Aussie actress graces not one, but four, covers of the September issue, which is 360 pages. London-based illustrator David Downton drew all four stunning portraits. I thought Cate was stunning in photos but she's even better animated!

The highlights of the issue? A 10-page spread of swimsuits created exclusively for the edition by Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Dolce and Gabbana, and more, and a 28-page editorial featuring Aussie models Catherine McNeil and Abbey Lee Kershaw. Sounds like a collectors item to me.

Jennifer and Marc Arrive in Style With Max and Emme

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony arrived in Rome yesterday after her party-filled birthday weekend in NYC. They walked down the steps of their private jet, each carrying one of their hat-wearing twins. Marc and Jennifer headed to their hotel to unwind a little, then they left Max and Emme behind to shop and hit the Spanish Steps. The Lopez-Anthonys were together in Italy around this time last year for some rest and relaxation aboard Dolce and Gabbana's yacht, so we'll see if their seafaring becomes an annual tradition.
