2010 Spring Milan Fashion Week: Dolce & Gabbana

It was all about passion and romance at Dolce & Gabbana's Spring showing at Milan Fashion Week. Showing utmost creative capability, the designers made a heavenly mix of sexy menswear-inspired suits, lace dresses, floral-printed separates, blouson shorts, and tiered frocks. "[The collection] is sexy, but not too sexy. . . . We're talking about sensuality," said Domenico Dolce. And that they did via bold, leopard prints, scintillating corsets, and a slick play on see-through dressing via black netting and mesh.

There was no limit to their imagination - the duo drew influences spanning from Madonna to Sicily - and created something for everyone. Classic, sophisticated gals will undoubtedly immerse themselves in Dolce & Gabbana's vintage white-lace dresses; hip darlings can revel in their floral and animal printed pieces; and sporty minimalists can celebrate in their selection of tailored suits. The emerging odd trend of the season - pantless one-pieces - were prominent and some of my favorite for Spring thus far. Bravi Domenico and Stefano!

Dolce and Gabbana Slashes Prices (!)

Dolce and Gabbana customers, get ready for something major: 10 to 20 percent lower retail prices for both the main and D&G lines. The Italian designing duo has slashed its prices because of the current economic state. "In this moment of uncertainty, people spend more willingly on travel or spas rather than on a new dress. We want to work for the final consumer," Gabbana said.

But fret not, the quality of the clothes won't be sacrificed. Instead of hundreds of fabrics, the designers are now using dozens. Plus, constructions will be simpler, and alternative stitching techniques will be used. According to Dolce, "This is the only way to save the market and our companies. It’s time to turn the page." Agreed.

It looks like Kate Moss may have opened the floodgates for supermodels designing clothes: Gisele is set to design a range of clothing with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

Although she has been prodded by various offers to design in the past, Gisele stuck to modeling and endorsing until Dolce & Gabbana gave her an offer she couldn't refuse. The line, Bundchen by Dolce & Gabbana, is set to unveil next Spring. I wonder if it will include any bikinis . . .

Dolce and Gabbana's makeup muse did some promoting at Selfridges department store in London earlier today. She usually plays up her sex-kitten persona, but here she opted for a ladylike look by Dolce and Gabbana. The pretty floral blouse is tempered by a long and lean pencil skirt and finished with a pair of nude peep-toe pumps. But it wouldn't be Scarlett without some sexy - her red lips help achieve just that.

See Dolce & Gabbana's New Makeup Line - Scarlett, Too

About a month ago, I asked you who you thought would be the face of the newly announced Dolce & Gabbana makeup line. Most of you guessed Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester, but those of you who had a hunch it was Scarlett Johansson were right. Of their newly tapped spokesperson, Gabbana told WWD, "Scarlett is sure of herself." He added, "She’s a beautiful girl, but she’s really easygoing. She is very Dolce & Gabbana."

The luxe collection will roll out at the beginning of February at Saks' Beverly Hills and Fifth Avenue stores, with colors inspired by vivid blues from the Mediterranean, the dark burgundy shade of dahlia (Gabbana's favorite flower), and gold and black from Stromboli. As for the packaging, it captures Dolce & Gabbana’s deluxe style with shiny gold tones and curved edges. A long time coming, Dolce & Gabbana Makeup will feature rose-scented lipstick ($30) at the heart of the line, along with a peppery mascara ($28). Besides bronzing powder, lip gloss, eye and lip pencils, and blush, expect to see eye shadow duos ($36), nail lacquer ($20), and powder foundation ($59), too.

Fab Ad: Dolce and Gabbana Women's Fall '09

So we weren't impressed with Dolce and Gabbana's sporty Fall men's campaign. Moving on. Let's join the sultry Mariacarla Boscono, Heidi Mount, and Edita Vilkeviciute, in Vegas! Also shot by Steven Klein, the blue-hued ads depict the lionesses lounging across poker tables in the house's dramatic shoulderific Fall offerings. This image is my favorite, with the shaggy purple abominable coats. There's also Mariacarla in a white one - dig the surreal headgear. Vegas's bling and gaud rarely serve as backdrop for ads, what do you think of Dolce and Gabbana's high-fashion gamble?

Milan Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Dolce & Gabbana

A common theme that I'm finding with Milan Fashion Week is that designers, like Roberto Cavalli, are expanding their horizons and delving into new territories. Such is the case for Dolce & Gabbana's Spring collection.

Dolce ads are vulgar and highly sexual, so it was surprising to see that their latest collection is filled with modest, almost matronly pieces. There are a bevy of full skirts, button down blouses, boat neck dress (a la Audrey Hepburn), tulip dresses, and lots of drama-filled, Zac Posen-esque gowns with voluminous trains and lots of ruching. The hues were also subtle, for Dolce, - black, white, green, mustard yellow, purple - with bouts of fuchsia and red.

What stood out is the upholstery-like patterns found on some of the dresses. They're vintage-inspired, regal and textured. Rather un-Dolce & Gabbana but very much appreciated.

Whose New Fragrance Ad Do You Like Better- Mariah's or Scarlett's?

The rumors have been swirling for the past few weeks that Scarlett Johansson, the face of Dolce & Gabbana's new makeup line, would also be fronting the design house's new scent, Rose The One ($48 to $90). Today, People confirms with a first look at the new ad. On the other front, the ad for Mariah Carey's new fragrance, Mariah Carey Forever, has also just been released. Both endorsements feature the stars dressed in slinky, form-fitting gowns while striking seductive poses. Each ad also works in a monotone element, with warm, café au lait shades in Mariah's and soft, rosy tones in Scarlett's. If you had to choose your favorite of the duo, which one wins out?

Fab Flash: Trousers at Dawn in Milan

If the fashion weapon of choice for women is the handbag, then the equivalent for men is the trouser. A battle is brewing today between Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana. Both fashion houses have shown their menswear collections in Milan over the weekend, but Armani is accusing the Italian design duo of copying a pair of quilted trousers from last year's Armani collection (pictured below left at D&G and right at Armani Fall 2008).

Dolce and Gabbana have denied the claims with Dolce releasing a statement saying, "Stylistically, the Armani style is not, and has never been, an inspiration source for us and we stopped seeing his fashion shows years ago."

He went on to explain that their label was, "strongly tied to Sicily and its traditions" yet had become "globally recognised". Donatella Versace got involved in the dispute too last night adding, "It's an honour to be copied."

Dolce & Gabbana Gold Restaurant: Love It Or Hate?

While 64% of you would not like a kitchen designed by a fashion designer, would you consider eating in a fashion designer's restaurant? The restaurant I'm talking about here is Dolce & Gabbana's Gold which opened last October in Milan. Italian powerhouse duo Dolce & Gabbana are known for their overly sexy signature leopard-printed look which carried over into the ornately decorated dining spot. Mirrors, metallics, marble, and lots of gold details make up the watering hole's interior which consists of an upscale restaurant, informal bistro, coffee room, and lounge bar. The menu offers Italian cuisine classically made in traditional Mediterranean style with only the most superior of ingredients. Food to go is available and packed in chic little gold doggie bags and boxes. I don't know about you guys but I may have to check this place out the next time I'm in Milan, after all I could just go for an espresso or cocktail.
