Fab Flash: Is Donatella Going to Leave Versace?

Just last week, Donatella Versace insisted that despite the financial problems the company would weather the storm arguing, You have to face the truth. For me, life is about chapters. Die and born again, die and born again. It’s the story of my life.”

This week it seems, however, that not everybody is convinced of Donatella's strength. A damning Newsweek article by Dana Thomas charts the "Tragic Decline of the House of Versace" which she claims has been falling apart since the death of Gianni, and that it's time for the company to move away from family control. "Many in the fashion industry believe it's time for the brand to continue without Versace family involvement - and some suggest that the family is starting to accept this idea too."

The Italian fashion house used to take over $1 billion in sales under the control of Gianni, but has since fallen to less than half of this. Some cite the remaining families resistance to adapt to new times and new economies, also the allowance of luxurious expenses. "There was zero expense control in the company, and the lifestyle was absolutely, positively insane," says the Versace source.

All of these problems are building up and you can't help but wonder if Donatella will be forced to leave. Do you think that she should pass on the control to someone outside of the family?

Donatella Gets Lindsay and the PYTs to Celebrate Art in NYC

Donatella Versace gathered some friends from the fashion and art worlds in NYC last night for the Whitney Museum Gala. First up was a star-studded dinner, where Taylor Momsen and Mischa Barton mingled with Shakira and Jennifer Hudson. The festivities then moved downstairs for the afterparty, with Lindsay Lohan turning up to make a cameo. We had a quick chat with the newly-minted artistic adviser, who said she was there "for Donatella" - and the duo certainly looked close as they posed for photos. Lindsay said she arrived late for the bash due to her travels, but that she'd be sticking around the city to handle "personal business." LL apparently even opened up later about her rumored hookup with Balthazar Getty, telling Gossip Cop that she'd never do that to Samantha Ronson.

LL managed to avoid any run-ins with Samantha's family as she narrowly avoided Charlotte Ronson. Donatella was truly the woman of the evening as she hung out with Lindsay, Mischa and Shakira and they all checked out a DJ set from Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen.

Gerard's Among the Gorgeous Girls at the Whitney Gala

The stars were out in New York last night at the Whitney Museum Gala Studio Party in Manhattan, where glam was the order of the night for the guests. Alexa Chung looked beautiful in pale blue, on the day the second series of It's On With Alexa Chung started on MTV in the US, while Mischa Barton went for gown in a darker shade. Shimmering nudes and metallics were also prevalent as Gossip Girl's Taylor Momsen played her skin coloured dress up with a very smoky eye, and buddies Donatella Versace and Lindsay Lohan also wore pale shades. Go behind the seams with Fab UK! Jennifer Hudson looked stunning in her pale pink dress, while Gerard Butler looked suave as always in his black suit. Yum!

Rachel Bilson continued making the rounds at Milan Fashion Week last night, getting decked out in black for the amfAR charity dinner. Kanye West and Amber Rose made one of their first public outings since his VMA debacle earlier this month, with both of them looking as into PDAs as ever with her new lip ring to top it all off. Sienna Hops Across the Pond For Twenty8Twelve at LFW

Kate Moss led the partying for London Fashion Week over the weekend, but yesterday it was Sienna Miller's turn to shine. Sienna headed home to England after debuting her Broadway play After Miss Julie on Saturday in order to be there for her Twenty8Twelve show. She joined her sister Savannah and a canine companion for photos before the presentation, which brought out heavy hitters like Anna Wintour. Sienna and Anna are buddy-buddy after their work together promoting The September Issue, so perhaps the Miller sisters can look forward to some upcoming support in the pages of Vogue.

Rob, Diane, and More Make For amfAR Highlights at Cannes

Another Cannes red carpet lit up today, but this time it was about charity instead of movies as the stars came out for Sharon Stone's annual amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS 2009 benefit. After a long night of partying with Brad and Angelina, Joshua Jackson accompanied Diane Kruger to the event, while Paris and Doug represented a different kind of couple. Robert Pattinson didn't need a leading lady on his arm to stand out in another dapper suit and Josh Hartnett also provided some eye candy for the ladies. The festival is starting to wind down, but the celebs still seem to be bringing out their best to the hectic schedule of events.

Fab Blab: Donatella Versace Starts Blogging

Donatella Versace is the latest designer to join the online community as she wrote a brief post this week for The Huffington Post. Despite previously saying "I don't do the Internet", Ms. Versace has shared her opinions with the world via a few words about the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Donatella begins by humbling explaining, "This is my first ever blog, so I forgive me if I make any 'blogosphere faux pas". She then goes on to discuss the evenings events and the people present at the party including "lots of cool Hollywood people that I know and some who are friends of mine - Ashton and Demi, Sting and Trudi".

She then talks about the changing perception of Americans following the election of the new president. She bluntly explains,

"Speaking from a European point of view, it is no exaggeration to say that it had got to the point where many in Europe regarded America as the enemy - and Americans were people we didn't even want to look at. It was almost as if the Europeans were simply against America and Americans. This was wrong, of course, and a result of the fact that there was confusion in our minds between the American people and the American administration."

The Italian designer could not discuss the event without commenting on Michelle Obama's style and it seems that the first lady has another fan!

"The first lady looked beautiful. It was so great to see a President's wife in a hot pink dress, a jewelled necklace with a pink flower and purple eye shadow. Great hair, great make-up - this is what we want to see: confidence."

Behind the Seams: Fashion Fringe Launch

Last night, the 2009 Fashion Fringe competition launched in London with a star studded party. It was hosted by Vanity Fair, Donatella Versace and Colin McDowell who began the search for the next big name in fashion. Donatella resumed her position as honorary chairperson and revealed support for 2009 from a range of guests including Natalie Massenet of net-a-porter, Antoni Burakowski, of Antoni and Alison, and Grazia's Paula Reed.

Natalia Vodianova, Claudia Schiffer (if you like her look recreate it for less here), Roland Mouret and Holly Branson also attended the party. This year they added an accessories category to the competition which is chaired by Tamara Mellon. She commented, “I am proud to support emerging British talent and bring the winner of the Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden Accessories award under the helm of the creative team at Jimmy Choo.”
