Miss Potter figured out how to paw open the screen door and let herself into the house. But all the other household dogs, who are not as talented but just as smart, make a habit of sweeping into the house when our gal gets the door ajar - leaving only enough time for the door to slam shut in her face. Miss Potter needs to do less opening and more barking, if you ask me. But this is nice too . . .

Harassed By My Doorman

Dear Sugar
I'm fresh out of college and have been living alone in a new studio apartment. I love everything about the complex and the people. I feel very safe there, but I have a problem with one of the doormen. He's there Monday through Friday and I always catch him staring at me and making an occasional borderline inappropriate compliment from time to time.

I don't want to be rude to the doorman because he serves a purpose within the building, but I can't stop getting creeped out by his flirtation with me. I kind of just snub him at this point and then feel badly for being mean.

I am close to an older doorman who is the superior over the other doorman, but I feel like I'd be making too big a deal if I asked him about it. I am just fed up at this point and I was hoping for some advice on how to handle him. Hounded Hailey

Dear Hounded Hailey
Ugh, what a nuisance to be pestered in your own home. Have your attempts of ignoring him been helpful or is he having a hard time taking the hint? If you feel hounded when going in and out of your building, then speaking up is a must.

Since you are buddies with this man's superior, I would just talk to him about your concerns. Hopefully he can tell your rude and oggling doorman to lay off the sweet talk and just be freindly in a respectful and polite way or there will be hell to pay! Good luck.

In the midst of the only Friday the 13th slated for the year 2008, cross in front of those black cats and shatter those mirrors with abandon - Dutch statisticians have cleared the unlucky rep. They've found that Fridays that fall on the 13th are actually safer than their 51 non-spooky cousins. The study shows that fewer accidents and reports of fire and theft occur on the big day than any other - and they're not sure just why. One statistician said, "I find it hard to believe that it is because people are preventatively more careful or just stay home, but statistically speaking, driving is a little bit safer on Friday 13th." Phew!

Park Avenue doorman, Richie Randazzo, won $5 million in the lottery - but when he asked to move into the building where he worked, he was still $4.95 million dollars shy of purchasing the only available unit.

Still, the winner is undaunted. “After I hit the next lottery, I’ll buy that one.” Randazzo said at the winner’s ceremony. The doorman purchased a $10 Set for Life instant ticket which pays $5,000 per week and guarantees a minimum of $5 million. He will receive $65,000 every three months or $41,926 after Uncle Sam wins his share.

A bummer (with a silver lining) but it's not as bad as this unlucky dude: a tardy German journalist covering the European football championship tried to delay his flight by making a fake bomb threat. From his traceable cell phone. The ploy didn't work as you might imagine as it's pretty tricky to make a flight when you've been arrested.

Pop Watch: Skins, Episode 7 "Effy"

Can you believe we're seven episodes into the second season of Skins? Only three more episodes are left for the majority of this cast. Well, except the star of this week's episode, Effy, who will lead the next season's band of troublemakers.

So Tony and Effy's house was an absolute mess – their Dad's away and their Mum was still pretty affected by everything that happened with Tony. And she was also taking his medication. Michelle wasn't replying to any of Tony's rather stalker-like contact. And Effy's still at the school with the interesting uniform – love that hat.

Her art teacher was very amusing, and inappropriate. But Effy's having a little problem with her emotional artistic inspiration. Enter new girl Pandora, who the art teacher invited to either paint, or get naked and pose. What a welcome to a new school. Not that it mattered, as Pandora is oblivious and fully admitted she was "useless", although she didn't go for the naked option, so that's something. The foolish/brilliant (I'm not sure which at this point) art teacher assigned Effy as Pandora's mentor.

Effy's acquaintance Jake arrived and he was pretty obsessed with the idea of sleeping with Effy, much to her annoyance. So he bothered her while I was pretty sure Pandora was hanging herself from a tree, but it turned out it was by her ankle. I'm not loving Pandora.

Sid showed up at the Stonem's house to see Tony and there's all kinds of tension going on there. Pandora opened Tony's parcel from Michelle, which ended up being the watch he bought her all crushed. I enjoyed Sid and Tony's awkward couch-based chat, and their secret handshake. Although every time Sid took a sip of that gone-off milk I felt a little ill. So, Sid had to get Michelle back for Tony in order for them to be friends, and Effy brings in some bargaining tools – if Sid does her emotional art homework, Effy will sort out their "soap opera" for him.

Effy took Pandora to Cassie to pick up their drugs for the evening, where Pandora was shocked by Cassie's new lifestyle (sleeping with everyone.) So Effy's first attempts to try and sort the Sid/Cassie thing don't go brilliantly, but the girl's scheming, that's for sure. And Pandora fell for Tony and got stoned. Oh, how I consistently wanted to slap her round the face and shout "wake up!" during this episode. Which I suppose is what Effy's doing with slightly more unorthodox methods.

Sid's first art attempt using four biros wasn't great, although I enjoyed it, so he was stuck in Effy's room while she, Pandora and Tony went out. Enter my favourite supporting character for a while - the doorman. I think I'd prefer it if he was in it more often, and Pandora... left. The doorman wouldn't let Tony in, but did allow the much younger Effy and Pandora into the club. And Jake was inside too, to sell the weed. Drugged-up Pandora danced like a maniac, and Tony was stuck outside reading the doorman's novel draft, kindly recommending that the "orgy scene comes before the disemboweling of the elvic hoard". Apparently this was good advice as he finally got into the club, only to see Effy giving away Michelle's watch and then being lovingly attacked by Pandora.

Meanwhile back at their place, Sid finally found his emotion using alcohol. After the clan returned we saw that Jake had found his way back to Effy's place and was sleeping in her room, ready to collect the prize he won for making over £100 from the weed. And what a prize – Effy set him up with Cassie, who he bonded with over her pet snails Sidley and Mischa. These people were obviously all wheels in Effy's little plan, as she was outside taking photos of the two kissing, which she then taped to the sleeping Sid. An odd tactic, but whatever works to get them all back together with the right people.

Effy must be a great person to have in your family – Michelle received her watch back, all fixed and with "Forever" engraved in the back of it. Yay. Meanwhile, seeing those photos, Sid ran to Chris's place to see Cassie and Chris threatened him rather noncommittally before disappearing. And the showdown begun.

Sid told Cassie he never loved Michelle, that he loved her. That she wasn't there when his Dad died and Michelle was. And, after a little more fighting and some crying, they kissed! Hurrah! I enjoyed Chris's little interruption as usual – I think you can tell I love almost everything Chris does. Meanwhile, Tony called Michelle again, who finally answered to say "I love you too" before hanging up. Good progress.

And so we go back to Effy's school, where it turned out, Sid's picture was for Pandora, and Effy's piece... well, she's turning in a 'conceptual piece' that no-one can see. And so she knows she'll be expelled. Dad Stonem comes back at the end of the week and the house looks super-clean. And Tony's all happy and, well, I would say back to normal, but... Tony's a new normal now. A happy, more-regularly-nice normal.

So next week is Jal, and it's a fantastic episode. How's she dealing with her pregnancy? And Cassie has secrets. Secrets about other people. It's going to be good, I can tell you that right now.

Love It or Hate It? The Humphreys' Brooklyn Pad

If you follow Gossip Girl, you may have noticed that the Humphreys, the token "pauvre" family, live in a killer converted Brooklyn loft that by the standards of most (perhaps not Park Avenue ladies who lunch) would be considered a Coveted Crib. Though it may not come complete with a doorman and an elevator (to get stuck in!), it's a massive space with gorgeous colored window panes, loads of rad midcentury furniture and artwork (thanks to Rufus's keen gallerist eye), and a garage door wall! How funky is that? I'd take it over Madison Avenue any day. Maybe you'd prefer life on the Upper East Side though - to each his own.

This Just In: Amy Sedaris Is a Stranger With Real Estate Candy

According to Big Time, funny woman Amy Sedaris has forked over $1.3 million for a 900-square-foot, 1-bedroom, 1-bath condo in Manhattan's West Village. She must have been charmed by the property, as she paid $50k over the asking price. The listing for the property reads:

Fabulous one-of-a-kind apartment full of original detail and prewar charm. Dramatic entry hall leads to rooms with arched doorways, over-sized windows and large proportions. Wood-burning fireplaces and double exposures grace both the bedroom and huge living room. Original beamed ceilings, floors, doors and hardware are all in mint condition. There are lots of nooks and crannies for special furniture and artwork. Located off Fifth Avenue in a prewar brownstone with both doorman and elevator.

I wonder if Sedaris will be making a decoupaged accent table for her new digs, or hanging portraits of herself by celebrity interior designers. The prewar apartment seems to have great bones, but I'm eager to see how she'll infuse it with her wacky personality.

Pop Preview: Baby Mama

First things first, Baby Mama ain't rocket science. And why should it be? It's a likeable, smile-inducing comedy with a couple of super-talented ladies at the helm: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Tina plays Kate Holbrook, a woman at the top of her game professionally, but slightly less so personally. Babies haunt her: everywhere she turns, there's a baby... it's kinda scary. But "I just don't like your uterus" says her doctor, and she's told she's unable to have a child herself. Enter hard up Angie (Poehler), who rents out her womb to Kate in return for a dollop of cash for her and on-again off-again man Carl (Dax Shepard). After their relationship flips to off again, Angie moves in with Kate and the fun begins!

Angie has many many less social graces than control-freak Kate, causing all kinds of awkwardness and a couple of gross-out moments, but despite all that they gradually become genuinely believable friends. The friendship between the two of them is one of the main draws of the movie for me.

The supporting characters are all great too. First off, Steve Martin is absolutely wonderful as Kate's insane boss. His long grey ponytail and rewards for his staff (for example, five minutes worth of uninterrupted eye contact) are worth the ticket price alone. Another awesome supporting player is Romany Malco – who plays Kate's doorman and kills with every line he has, as well as providing a refreshing outside voice of reason at a couple of points. Greg Kinnear is likeable and mostly charming as Kate's love interest, and Angie's birthing coach (Siobhan Fahen) brings in some consistent laughs.

Now for the slight negatives: I found Angie to be a bit of an inconsistent character, flitting between being pretty trashy, then all of a sudden becoming normal and nice, before flicking straight back to trashy next time she appeared onscreen. A fair few of the jokes fell pretty flat in the screening I attended too, but there are certainly enough aces to make it worth your while. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are without a doubt two talented comediennes, I loved Fey's Mean Girls and am looking forward to Poehler's new TV series too.

All in all, this is a refreshing movie. It's not all about a girl/guy relationship, or boys being boys – which seems to be the basis of so many funny movies these days. Sex And The City proved that female focused movies can bring in the audiences, and seeing two talented, hot and smart women provide a female alternative to the predominantly male "buddy comedy" is great because it works. It's funny... however I can't help but think that if Fey had scripted it (as she did Mean Girls) it would have been even funnier!
