Dragon's Breathe Fire into John Lewis Perfumes

Dragons Den is all set to create another happy ending as the new perfume range, Scents of Time hits the shelves exclusively at John Lewis this month. With the backing of Peter Jones and Theo Paphitis, the range will be available at five key branches of the department store, nationwide from 9th October 2008.

Scents of Time is the brainchild of David Hunter Pybus, dubbed the "twenty-first century Indiana Jones of the fragrance world”. The range of four fragrances have been recreated from original scents of centuries past, using ancient aromas to create deliciously unique scents.

David, through his skills as an aromancer, has been able to successfully reconstruct the lost perfume of Pompeii, Tutankhamen’s aroma of intrigue as well as the sacred scent of Cleopatra. He has successfully reconstructed the perfumes based on preserved samples, historical literature and ancient recipes, keeping the original aromatic experience intact.

There are three women's fragrances and one unisex scent. From Nenufar, which has been recreated with blue lotus water lilies favoured by the Pharaohs, to Pyxis formulated from a combination of flowers, fruits and spices found in Pompeii perfumer Sperato’s garden; each scent has a unique story behind it.

The new series of Dragons' Den started on BBC2 last night, with a whole new batch of inspired (and sometimes deluded) entrepreneurs searching for funding. I love the banter between the Dragons, which makes it tricky for me to pick just one favourite. I don't know about you, but if I saw someone wearing this La Perla Dragon Bra (call for pricing info), I'd run . . . fast! OK, in all seriousness, it's one helluva ferocious bra, or shall I say, weapon. I don't know how practical it is, but I'd love to sport it for a ~~kinky~~ romantic night. At first glance, this looks like your everyday bearded dragon vid. Big whoop. But it's a tribute video to one cute reptile. Beardie here was a ham. In this vid, he pulls out the guitar, some legos, and-the clincher-gives bedroom eyes. Oh jeez, I'm blushing. (R.I.P. Beardie!)

Totally Geeky or Geek Chic? Dragon Speaker

The idea for the Dragon speakers, designed by Joakim Axelsson, was to join a classical sculptural shape with the modern look of the raw speaker elements and create a new and interesting visual experience. According to Yanko Design, they are 32cm high and are made to fit in the bookshelf, by the tv, in the kitchen or in other small, but prominent spots. These speakers seems to go along the same trend of turning something practical into something more artistic, such as the elaborate cardboard speaker installations, which were created for a music festival in Switzerland.

Sports and Showbiz Stars Receive New Year Honours

The Queen's annual New Year Honours List has been announced today, with campaigners from ordinary walks of life and stars from the world of showbiz and sport receiving a range of accolades. Team GB's success in the Olympics this year has meant many sport stars have been included on the list: cyclist Chris Hoy is knighted for his three gold medals, and swimmer Rebecca Adlington becomes an OBE. Lewis Hamilton rounds off his fantastic year with an MBE. In the world of entertainment, fantasy author Terry Pratchett is knighted, rock star Robert Plant becomes a CBE, actor Michael Sheen an OBE, actress Liz Smith an MBE, and Dragons' Den's Peter Jones is made a CBE. The Queen also rewarded members of the fashion industry: my girl FabUK has got the lowdown on who received what. Congratulations to all!
