Charles Worthington Results Balancing Act Dry Shampoo

I've had a bottle of Charles Worthington Results Balancing Act Dry Shampoo (£4.55) in my closet for some time now, but didn't try it out until last week. Boy am I bummed out that I waited so long - this product is nothing short of a savior in a bottle!

I'll start by telling you how awesome it smells. The scent is a clean, crisp, fresh and not overly flowery to mask your dirty hair smell (yes, I know that's gross, but it's true). Instead it actually seems like it's dry cleaning your hair and taking the odor away entirely. Also, it has a light and consistent mist that doesn't concentrate in just one area. I believe this is the reason why, (unlike some other dry shampoos) it won't leave your hair wet when you first spray it on, rather it simply and instantly absorbs any grease.

Lastly, what makes it stand out is that if you hair is fine (like mine) after going a day or two without washing, it tends to get limp. This helps give it texture and even a little bit of volume.

I won't tell you that this is some kind of miracle product, because it's not. It's just a really good dry shampoo that I'm excited to recommend. The effects won't last for 48 or even for 24 hours. In fact, depending on how oily your hair is, I'd give it about five to six hours max, which is enough to get you through an afternoon at work, or an event in the evening. After that ladies, I'm afraid you're going to have to bathe!

Why Must You Be So Cruel, Cheap Dry Shampoo?

This morning, I made a mistake. Instead of my trusty Klorane or Biolage hair refresher, I decided to give a dry spray from the drugstore, the aptly named Psssssst ($6), a try.

I sprayed it in, brushed it out, and my hair looked more than fine. It looked quite nice, in fact. Later today, however, I ran my hand through my hair, only to come back with a ton of white powder on the tips of my nails. The dry shampoo had settled onto my scalp despite a thorough brushing. Gross. I also got paranoid that my hair looked all powdery, and spent a good portion of the afternoon trying to make my scalp as hidden as possible. I usually love a good drugstore version of more expensive products, but this time it just wasn't the same. I've also heard good things about several less expensive dry shampoos, and Psssssst has probably worked well for someone sometime, but that day was not today, and that person was not me. Better luck next time, Walgreens.

Say So Long to Limp Locks With a Colored Hair Powder

Now that warmer weather is approaching, is your scalp heating up, too? Perhaps your roots and/or bangs are oily, but your ends are just fine. That's when hair powders come into play. Packing For Festival Season Made Easy With Mini's!

Girls, girls, girls: Everybody needs a little extra hair refreshment now and then, and award-winning Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo ($19) is a hair care staple for reader Nikisix. Here's what she had to say about this oil-absorbing product:

I have always washed my every day, even when I know I'm not supposed to. But my hair would get so greasy at the roots I could never break the cycle. I've tried other dry shampoos that came as a spray and they just made my hair feel gross, and ultimately wouldn't last. Pronto, however, is fantastic. It lasts well over one day, so I'm now able to wash my hair every other day. It's great, and the fragrance isn't too overpowering. I could see how brunettes might not like the white powder, but it works great for my blond hair. Will definitely buy again.

Product Review: Toni & Guy Label. M Dry Shampoo

It's going to take a lot for me to stray from my favourite Klorane Oat Milk Dry Shampoo, but after using Label. M Dry Shampoo three times, I'm happy to report that this is almost as good.

The lightweight, airy powder absorbs quickly in the hair, without leaving a thick white coating behind that can sometimes require massive amounts of brushing before disappearing. The spay nozzle is powerful and it has a wide wingspan, so a little bit goes a long way. However, the best part still is that this Toni & Guy version is less expensive than Klorane!

Truth be told that this has been my secret weapon throughout London Fashion Week. I received it inside of a free goodie bag at the Bryce D'Anise Amie Show and have been using it since to refresh and revitalize my blow-outs. So far. it's worked like a charm and hasn't weighed my hair down in the slightest. The only drawback for me is the rich, flowery scent. I tend to hold my breath while I spray or else I find the fragrance a tad overwhelming. Do you have a go-to dry shampoo?

Product Review: Biolage Oil Control Treatment

What makes this Biolage Scalpthérapie Oil Control Treatment ($16) so unique? It's a cross between a dry shampoo, a scalp stimulating treatment, and an anti-dandruff prevention product. It contains glycerin to help absorb any excess oil and mint and kola nut to energize and balance the scalp. Guys will love it too. There's that fun tingly element to it when you spray the product onto your scalp, plus the scent is clean and refreshing without being floral or sweet.

I also have to mention the nozzle because the pointy appendage on the spritzer indicates to me that this company has thought long and hard about hair. It allows for precise application as opposed to other dry shampoo powders that can sometimes concentrate and clump in one area of the hair and/or scalp. All you have to do is aim it at your scalp and massage it in. Tip: your hair will look much better if you brush it out after you spritz.

I liked that I saw immediate results. Once I worked it into my scalp a little bit, I noticed that my hair wasn't separating and shining as much as before. Most of the oil was absorbed and it really helped increase the longevity of my blow-dry.

Yay, thumbs up to Biolage. I was hoping this old-time brand would redeem itself after my last unfortunate conditioning experience, and it didn't let me down.

Locker Room Time Savers

For those of us who sneak out of the office to get in a quick workout at lunch, anything that can cut time down in the locker room is helpful.

Forget layering sports bra and shirt, instead slip into an all-in-one sports top with built in bra.
Only pack the necessities in your bag so you're not left fumbling around to find your gear. I like to put my socks inside my shoes the night before so they're already together.
Avoid spending time unraveling iPod cords by investing in a cord keeper. I like the SmarterWrap cord manager ($4.99).
Instead of using a headband, put hair in a loose ponytail. This will preserve volume and eliminate time at the blow dryer post workout.
Take a "body shower" and use dry shampoo to freshen up hair.

Forget about fidgeting with bottles in the shower, wash your face and bod with the cleansing cloths. I like the ones by Dove.
Keep makeup in a see through case (or even ziplock bag) so you can see what you're grabbing for and aren't left searching frantically for your eyeliner.
If possible, avoid the prime lunch rush and head to the gym a little earlier or later to avoid waiting in lines for the showers, hair dryers, etc.

How Long Do You Think It's Been Since Posh Has Washed?

Oh, Posh. Check out Victoria Beckham's greasy hair from a night out in LA this weekend. However, being the understanding gal pal that I am, I'm certainly not going to stand on ceremony. Let's face it, there are days when the party calls and you just don't have time for a shower and shave-but someone's got to tell her about the latest dry shampoo supplies.

No doubt Victoria will soon be back with her normal clean hair, but for funnsies, let's guess how many days you think Posh is pushing sans shower. I've got my money on four. How about you?
