Elizabeth Arden Hopes You'll Feel Pretty

Everything about Elizabeth Arden's new soft floral fragrance is ultrafeminine, from the pink packaging to the perfume's name. Even the glass bottle's silhouette is inspired by a bud vase with the cap depicting a floral image.

Elizabeth Arden's new Pretty Eau de Parfum Spray ($49 to $62) is formulated with petalia, a new fragrance molecule that smells like, well, a petal.

Pretty is not as sappy-sweet as you might expect. Italian mandarin, orange blossom, and peach juice lend a fresh, bright feel, while starry jasmine, pink lily, and peony help create that expected floral scent without an overwhelming effect. To round it all off, musk, jacaranda wood, and creamy amber give it a warmth that's smooth yet hearty enough to be noticed.

While Pretty isn't an iconic scent like Sunflowers was for the '90s, this fragrance is pleasant, and it's worth a sample spritz at the perfume counter. Be sure to check out the Body Lotion and Body Powder with Puff ($37.50), too. In one word, Pretty is very "Spring," both in scent and the way it makes you feel when wearing it.

I've been coveting the look of the new print ads for Elizabeth Arden's new fragrance, Pretty. The vibrant flowering wallpaper in the background is over-the-top glam, as is the silk-upholstered loveseat. The print ad definitely borrows from Sofia Coppola's film, pushing a Marie Antoinette vibe.

The look of the print ad relies heavily on the antique loveseat, so you'll want to find the perfect seating option. Love it or Hate it: Konnie Huq

Today's date is 08.08.08 which is a special occasion as the number '8' is believed to bring great fortune. It's a good day for Elizabeth Arden to promote their 8 hour cream so they're giving away samples at their counters across the country. They also threw a party in London last night to mark the date and Konnie Huq was there to help them celebrate. She wore a pretty floral dress but teamed it with heavy, flat boots. How-To: Try to Trump Naomi Watts' Makeup Look

Donald Trump has a new hotel in Dubai, and Naomi Watts toasted its launch while wearing beautiful and polished makeup. As usual, she managed to stand out among all of the lovely ladies in attendance. Her skin was creamy, smooth and enhanced with a touch of pink blush.

If you're thinking about re-creating Naomi's makeup look at home, I've got a few great product and application suggestions for you. To find out what they are, read more.

FACE: Start by smoothing a moisturizer over your face so that all of the foundation and powder won't dry out your skin. Dab on a little bit of your favorite concealer, and then apply a liquid foundation like Elizabeth Arden Intervene Makeup in Soft Sunbeige and blend using a makeup sponge. Then, dust a translucent, loose powder all over to decrease shine and set the foundation and concealer.
CHEEKS: Smile in the mirror and apply a creamy rose blush such as Clinique Touch Blush in Sweet Clover to the outward-most point of the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards. You don't want to overdo it, so use a light hand.
EYES: Sweep a slightly shimmery bone-colored eye shadow all over your lids, and apply taupey-rose like Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Twice Baked in the crease for depth. Then, line your upper lashes with black liner, apply two coats of black mascara and fill in brows with a light, blonde-colored pencil.
LIPS: Lastly, use a lip brush to apply a true rosy-berry-colored lipstick like Givenchy Interdit Lipstick in Pretty Rose to your lips and finish with a coat of high shine gloss such as Fresh Sugar Lip Gloss in Sugar Pink.

New Product Alert: Apples & Pears Lip Balms

I'm always on the hunt for new lip balms and was delighted to discover the sweet, homely company Apples & Pears. Apples & Pears Apiaries is a small beekeeping business dedicated to making natural and organic skincare products from one of the oldest beauty treatments in history – beeswax and honey.

They have recently launched three lip balms (£10.50 each) - Wild Rose for daily protection, Calendula for sore, dry lips and Beeswax lip balm for sensitive lips. I was particularly impressed by the rose balm, it contains sweet yellow beeswax, organic rosehip seed oil and rose damascena oil, and best of all, has no artificial ingredients – after all, you tend to actually digest much of your lip balm. The Beeswax Lip Balm can also be used to moisturise any dry areas, such as dry patches on the face or hands – in much the same way as Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream works.

I am happy to report that the Apples & Pears lip balms contain no petroleum-based products, no parabens, no synthetic dyes, no flavourings and no artificial fragrances. Instead, they're made with 'cappings' wax – the wax that bees use as a final capping to seal the honeycomb. The icing on the cake, as it were.

The balms are very nourishing and come in super-pretty round pots, with gold lids that have a bee design. Oh and apparently your lips look extra kissable too! Ahh, like bees to a honey pot...

What A Pair: Dual-Ended Mascara

OK, so the concept of double-sided mascara isn't entirely novel. But after checking out Two-Timer Mascara from The Balm, I thoroughly enjoy having two options in one product to choose from. After a shopping trip, I noticed that more and more of these mascara pairs are being developed and I'm pretty stoked about it. If you share my enthusiasm, you'll love these three dual-sided mascaras too. And of course, if you know of any others - do tell!

Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara ($35) is a mascara that houses two different brushes on either side of the tube. The first brush curls, adds volume and length, while the second (mini-sized) brush gets to those tiny, hard-to-reach lashes on the inner and outer corners of the eye. I haven't tried it yet, but it sure looks supafly.

Elizabeth Arden Two Brush Mascara ($18) is a multi-functional, conditioning mascara that is available only in a deep black shade (however, I hear there are more to come). One side thickens, separates and elongates and the other brush is smaller to ensure that no lash will ever go naked.

Lancome Cils Design Pro- Custom Design Double Mascara ($35) has two brushes to help create the ultimate lash. The fluffy side lengthens and the other smaller brush helps coat the fine lashes (again on the inner and outer corners) while combing out any clumps. Available only in black.

This weekend, I was dodging the crazy crowds at a shopping center in San Francisco. As I was on my way out, I ran across this large Elizabeth Arden vending machine. Selling items through vending machines is nothing new in the tech world, and for that matter, it's pretty common in Japan. But this is the first time I've seen beauty products being sold in this manner.

The vending machine was stocked with Intervene Eye, Prevage night cream, fragrances, and gift sets. (No sign of color cosmetics, though.) You could shop through a touch-screen, bypassing the beauty counter completely. Although a few dudes were curious about the giant beauty machine, most women looked at it and walked right by. I think this is probably more of a marketing tactic than a way to actually boost sales, but who knows? Tell me, would you buy your beauty products from a vending machine?

Inside the World of Celebrity Scents

Eighty-four percent of you say you're sick of celebrity fragrances, but you must be anomalies-because celeb perfumes are selling like crazy. Some of the interesting bits from the story:

There's big bucks in this business. Euromonitor International, a Chicago-based market research firm, reports that worldwide sales of the top seven celebrity scent lines-just the top seven!-totaled $353.6 million last year.
Diddy's sitting pretty. A lot of you find his Unforgivable ads cheesy, but the scent is doing just fine. Last year, it did $74.9 million in sales.
Inside the contract: Fragrance companies such as Coty and Elizabeth Arden produce and develop the fragrance, then the star's name goes on the bottle. Contract details are kept private, but the industry standard is to give the celeb 5–10% of sales, with a possible signing bonus.
Jennifer Lopez has made many cents out of scents. Forbes writes: "In 2006, Lopez's net worth was about $110 million, according to Forbes' list of the 20 richest women in entertainment-but her last CD was a flop, as were her last several movies. Sales of her fragrances, including Glow and Live Luxe, totaled $77 million in 2006."

What I'd really like to know-and what the story doesn't reveal, unfortunately-is the extent to which celebrities are involved in creating their scents. I've heard that Hilary Duff had a lot of input and feedback on hers, and I can see Gwen Stefani knowing what she wanted for L. Somehow, though, I'm not convinced that Britney Spears was actively involved in making Believe-at least, not with all of her personal drama this year.

Britney Spears headed back to LA this week, just in time to relaunch her newest fragrance, Elizabeth Arden's Midnight Fantasy. Britney's got a new promotion, too, in which she will call you (yes you! And your friends!) to give out personalized Midnight Fantasy greetings. Sounds sexy, right? It's actually pretty fun to play with and the personalized options are classic (as in, the fantasy could involve forties, piercings and hooking up with playas).
