Ellen Gets Interviewed by Drew

Ellen Page got to work it as a flirty tomboy for the March issue of Interview magazine. She's definitely been having quite the year since her breakout role in Juno. In addition to being a cover girl, Miss Page will also get to walk the red carpet at the Oscars this Sunday after earning a nomination for best actress. In the magazine, Drew Barrymore (her future director) did the honors of interviewing Ellen, quizzing her on everything from her success to her love life to her favorite color. Here are highlights:

DB: "What's your idea of a perfect day?"
EP: "Lord. I don't know. Maybe wake up, have some delicious coffee, eat some delicious fruit, then go for a bike ride to a lake and bring a good book. And read and swim and read and swim - just something super simple, I guess. Mellow."
Drew Barrymore: "And what about the next five years? What are your aspirations?"
Ellen Page: "I hesitate about having aspirations that are too intense, because I just don't know what's going to happen. As corny as it sounds, I guess the answer would be remaining as honest as possible and having the control to play roles that are fulfilling and challenging to me and that I feel passionate about. And I hope, in the next five years, that's going to be something I'll be able to do consistently."
DB: "What's most surreal about your life?"
EP: "Well, I did Oprah yesterday, and then I went to the NBR [National Board of Review] Awards last night and met Kate Winslet, whom I adore. I was all star-struck and trying to be supercool, but she came over to me!

DB: "You're going through a period where you're getting a lot of accolades for Juno. What do awards mean to you?"
EP: "Well, I'm definitely not an actor in order to receive an award. But at the same time, it's what I love to do. So when you receive that acknowledgment, it's like, 'Wow, maybe I'll be in a couple more movies.' And that's a really exciting thought."
DB: "And what could they [a person with whom you'd been flirting with] say that would make you raise an eyebrow and go, 'Hmm, I'm interested in this person'?"
EP: "Probably just something ridiculously random, just talking and being honest with each other. As corny as it sounds, just being yourself. I'm horrible at flirting, though, so I shouldn't be answering this question."
DB: Ok, my last question: What's your favorite color in the Crayola box?"
EP: Green. I suppose I like earthy colors. They just feel simpler."

Ellen seems like one of Hollywood's more down to earth starlets who we can't seem to take our eyes off of. She's refreshing and we look forward to seeing what's next for this humble actress.

Ellen Page Gets Her Award Winning Self Out of LA

Ellen Page may not have walked home with an Oscar on Sunday night, but she did win best leading lady at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday. Seems more up her alley anyway, right? I'm sure she was mostly just happy to be able to get the hell out of California yesterday afternoon - methinks the red carpet hubbub makes the endearing young talent a little bit nervous. Can't say I blame her. Did anyone else watch her Barbara Walters interview after the show on Sunday? A little bit awkward when Walters demanded Page sing, right? Heh. Well, hopefully Ellen will have some relaxing down time before being forced into formal wear against her will. While this may have been Ellen's first time at the Oscars, I'm guessing it won't be her last.

Sugar Bits - Paris Gets Pretty for Radio

Paris gets prepared for her radio interview with her hair and makeup entourage. Smart girl knew that even though it was a simple radio interview she would still have her picture taken - Page Six

Drew Dresses Up For US Vogue

Last week, we got a glimpse of Drew Barrymore looking casual and cool out for her birthday with her boyfriend Justin Long. Now she's looking stunning in US Vogue, where she talks about her latest role in Grey Gardens, her upcoming projects including Whip It! which will star Ellen Page, her relationship, and her family. Here are some highlights:

On her role in Grey Gardens: "Something about learning you can live without everything changes you. All my life, I've been waiting and waiting to become a woman, but I always felt like a little girl. Edie did, too. But I think she might have been the thing that made me finally become a woman. I thought for sure it would be a relationship with another human being, a love. Little did I know it would be a posthumous relationship with a woman named Edith Beale."
On her directorial debut Whip It!: "I have traveled the world for 32 years and voraciously studied literature, art, other cultures. I've been to the places, spent time with the people. I am the most avid music fan. . . Photography has been my secret hobby and passion for years now. I've been putting all that in a piggy bank, and I've been waiting to break it open and make something that is very personal and important to me ... I relate to what it's like to feel like your surroundings are dangerous to the development of who you need to be as an adult. One of the most important rules of filmmaking is tell your story, tell things that are personal to you, and I feel like I'm out of the gate with that one thing in my back pocket."

On her past relationships: "I have been such a cards-on-the-table, direct, confident person in my life, in my work, and with my friends, but when it comes to relationships, for some reason, I have not grown up to the speed I am elsewhere."

On her family: "I had my own little Yoda in the form of my family. Maybe they were crazy, but they were talented and they were interested and they were passionate about life, and they weren't afraid to live it to its fullest. Maybe that hurt them in some ways, and maybe they didn't understand family values as well as some other families, but they're still an interesting tribe, and I'm proud I come from that circus. When I was a kid, I used to look at the moon and think it was my grandfather. I always knew where he was ... I have no sense of traditionalism, but I'm learning it on my own, slowly but surely. I'll be the first Barrymore who will tell my children, 'I'm going to pick you up at three' and actually turn up."

Drew is one celeb that I always enjoy reading about – she's unpredictable but in every interview you can see her grow just a little more. It's hard to remember the major wild child she used to be, her own whirlwind marriage, and substance abuse problems reflecting those of some that make the press constantly today. Lets hope for a happy life like Drew's for all of them.
