My family is relatively tech-savvy, but as you know, we definitely have our share of funny family tech stories. My latest installment, a card from my grandmother, telling me she missed me. And under her sweet message was this gem.

Obviously with my job, I spend over eight hours in front of my computer screen, and maybe an additional one or two during the day checking up on my reader, emails, and apps on my iPhone, or playing a video game at home. That's a lot of working hours for my eyeballs! But a recent study shows that kids these days aren't that far behind.

I saw this crazy iPhone app yesterday called iTrust that records your mates attempts to break into your texts and emails while you're away. The app developers also give an interesting fact: 67 percent of British women say they regularly snoop around in their boyfriend's phone. It got me wondering how many people would actually buy this app in fear that their significant others are spying on them?

Sure, that sounds like a silly question, but can a geek girl (or even potential employer) stay neutral on the topic? A recent opinion piece in the Chicago Tribune asserts that you can be judged by your email address. The author admits to keeping an AOL email address, even though she was slightly embarrassed to give it out or use it too often.

A New York Times article says sharing passwords to email, photo sites, and bank accounts (!) has become the new currency of intimacy. To give a password is to show trust, but not all passwords are the same. I'd share my Netflix password after three dates, but I wouldn't share my email password after three years (maybe 30?).

In case you missed it (and if you're rocking a CrackBerry, how could you not?), BlackBerry users suffered through eight hours without Internet and email services yesterday evening. During the second massive outage in a week, 100 percent of customers (around 32 million people across North America) were affected and finally started receiving emails again in the wee hours of this morning. I don't know about you, but I'm kind of obsessive when it comes to checking my email and Google Reader throughout the night on my iPhone, so if it were me, I'd be a little out of sorts today.

One of my former bosses was a reply-all fanatic. When someone would send an email about upcoming office events or trainings, she'd click "reply all," and let the whole distribution list in on her schedule (one time that included the fact that her dog needed to be groomed). She'd share her take with new company policies with everyone.

Busy schedules, full workdays, and just general life all seems to get in the way of quality face time when you're in a relationship, so there are days I'm thankful for all of my gadgets and the technology that goes along with them — especially when it helps me keep in touch with a certain special someone. And, especially when we haven't been able to see each other for days at a time, I've been known to fire off a flirtatious email or two. They're usually pretty harmless, but certainly not something I'd want my co-workers — or worse, my mother — reading.

Policies on recreationally surfing the web vary from workplace to workplace, but the truth is that (almost) all of us do it. But that doesn’t mean we want everyone around us to see exactly how much time we’re spending browsing, say, the PopSugar Network, does it? A new Firefox add-on called Decreased Productivity could be the solution.
