Celebs showed up by the handful for the Tommy Hilfiger show that closed New York Fashion Week yesterday, including January Jones, Rosario Dawson, Katherine McPhee, Penn Badgley and Emily Blunt — who's newly engaged to actor John Krasinski! Mary Louise Parker looked cute in checks, while Sarah Ferguson showed up in a bright blue dress and chatted to Emily before the show. Also present was Alicia Keys who wore sunglasses, Naomi Watts in a gorgeous white dress and woman of the moment Taylor Swift, who has come out of her moment at the MTV VMAs with a lot of support, including that of President Obama!

Yesterday at the Jill Stuart fashion show in New York, actress Rachel Bilson sat in the front row showing off her engagement ring and her teal blue nails. A gal pal recently divulged that she had a dinner date with a single male friend and when conversation turned to Twitter and the Internet, he proved to be a studied student in her tweets. In fact, he quoted a few of them verbatim. He presented the homage to her updates in a humorous way, ("so why didn't you tweet that?"

An engagement ring has so much symbolic value that people often get a little obsessed with its design, cost, and the method in which it's presented. A reader writes in with the following question:

Bella got some great engagement photo advice from wedding photographer Meg Messina last week, and there was a great gem of a geek tip in amongst the hair and makeup tips.
Messina suggests that you tape a piece of tissue paper over your camera flash for an instant diffuser (the kind you wrap presents with, not the kind you blow your nose with).
In my list of top tips for taking beautiful photos with an SLR, I mentioned that your flash is too harsh when aimed directly at your subject and should be bounced or diffused.

Planning your wedding can be stressful, but the fun part is registering for gifts! Unfortunately, some people get carried away at the thought of all the presents coming their way and register spontaneously, not methodically. You have to remember that you're going to live with these gifts, and your friends and family are spending real money on them, so you better like them!

Finally, some good news. If you have a subscription to WWD, you probably wake up every day to another company reporting negative profits. After months and months, it's quite the downer.
