Bobbi Brown Beautiful October Launches

New from Bobbi Brown are sixteen exciting additional colours to two already existing brand favourites. First up is Metallic Long Wear Cream Shadow (£16). This silky soft eye shadow now contains eight amazing new hues formulated with shimmer. I get really excited about this product because it's easy to apply, it lasts all day, it never smudges and the formula is light, smooth and it blends well. My fave is black pearl, a pinky-purple that goes on quite sheer.

Next are the Rich Colour Lip Glosses (£14). Whilst the older version of Bobbi's glosses are quite possibly the gooiest on the market, these have been formulated with more intense colour, medium shine and less stickiness. They are perfect for anyone looking for a one-stop-shop product that falls somewhere between a creamy lipstick and a shiny gloss. The eight shades range from nude and neutral to flirty and bright. Eyeshadow 101: Today's Theme is Purple

The makeup counters at department stores and the cosmetics aisle at Walgreens can be pretty overwhelming. It's super hard to know which colors to try and which ones go together. I thought I would try to help with this installment of Eyeshadow 101.

The goal of wearing eye make-up is to enhance/bring attention to your eyes. The rule of thumb is to wear the opposite color eye shadow of your eyes on the color wheel so that your eyes really stand out (or POP as they say in the make-up world).

So if you have blue eyes, you'd wear rust, coral, peach or grayish colors; if you have brown eyes, wear greens and bronzes, and if you have green/hazel (gold/yellowy) eyes, try wearing either greens, or deep purples, pinks, and rusty purples.

If you have greenish-hazel eyes, I'd go with MAC's Sable eye shadow. It is an amazing muted, golden plum brown everyday color with bronze shimmer. First apply a light pink color to the base of your lids - try Trish McEvoy's Deluxe Eye Shadow in Shell, then add a touch of the sable to the crease.

Lastly, line your eyes with Mac's Sketch Colored Eye Shadow. It's the mac daddy (no pun intended) of purples. The color is an intense burgundy-plum flecked with red shimmer.

Another great idea which I've just discovered that is really simple and great for travel because it's packaged together is glowmineral's gloEye shadow trio in Amethyst.

Or Dior's 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Sweet Illusion.

Be careful when using purples, because if you go overboard, your eyes will look bloodshot. So dust some loose powder on the corners of your eye, and directly beneath your lower lash when you are finished applying your shadow.

New! Bobbi Brown's Surf & Sand Lip and Eye Collection

New for Summer 2007, is Bobbi Brown's Surf and Sand Collection. These refreshing summer products consist of a light, ocean colored eye palette and three new sparkly lip gloss colors. Bobbi Brown feels "There's nothing more beautiful than a wash of shimmering aqua on eyes paired with a fresh pops of color on cheeks and lips." I totally agree - but then again, with a bit of a summer tan (GASP), I think that all makeup looks better!

Surf and Sand Eye Palette, $42, is a limited edition block of ten aqua, light pink, taupe, sea green and sand colored eye shadows. Each of the colors are pearlized, shimmery and soft. They are very wearable and can be worn individually or blended together.

The three new Shimmer Lip Glosses, $19, are made from the same, original high shine gloss formula we love from Bobbi Brown. They are also infused with vanilla so they smell fab. The colors are Pink Blossom, Warm Peach and Cocoa Bling. They look amazing with the new eye palette and a neutral to pink colored blush for an optimal fresh summer look.

Make Your Eye Color Pop With the Right Shadow Shades

Earlier this week I gave you the scoop on how to achieve Hayden Panettiere's Emmy look straight from Amy Oresman, who was responsible for the young star's eye-popping makeup. While we were at it, she shared some tips on how to make the most of your eye color. So if you've ever wondered which shades will make your eyes stand out, read on.

For green eyes: Use a warm, pink, or rose tone on the crease and underneath the eye. "That makes sparkling green eyes shine even brighter," Oresman says. She likes Neutrogena's Nourishing Eye Duo in Fairy Dust ($8.79) eye shadow.

For blue eyes: To make blue eyes sizzle, use warm bronze tones. (This cheapie quad is a great example.)

For brown eyes: "Brown-eyed babes have it made, because any warm tone works to enhance their beguiling dark eyes," Oresman says. To create a dramatic contrast against the color of the pupil and the whiteness of the eye, line the waterline of the eyes with eyeliner. (Here's how.)

Emma Stone sure knows how to glam it up, doesn't she? At last night's GQ Men of the Year event in LA, the actress wowed in this subtle lavender shadow.
