Emma Stone sure knows how to glam it up, doesn't she? At last night's GQ Men of the Year event in LA, the actress wowed in this subtle lavender shadow. Encircling the eyes with makeup can look raccoon-like, but Emma manages to pull it off, thanks to a light touch and a soft-toned shade. The great thing about this cooler-toned shade is that it looks great during all seasons, and it just happens to be very of-the-moment. You can look pretty in purple shadow, too. Laura Mercier is known for her lovely products, and her All Over Eye Color Brush ($30) is apparently no exception. Reader ElisabethR says:

"I have been fighting with eye shadow brushes for months. Every single one I bought was too small, too stiff, and didn't distribute color evenly on my lids. I finally broke down and bought this one. What a difference. It covers my eyelid beautifully with color, and I can blend right up into the crease. In a pinch, it works as a crease brush, as it fits perfectly into the crease of the eye. If you were trying to keep make-up brushes to a minimum during a trip, you could easily survive with this one. I can't recommend it enough. It's expensive, but you'll waste so much more money trying to go for cheaper, smaller brushes. I wish I had bought this one sooner."

Love It or Hate It? Rihanna's Fuchsia Eyeliner

Normally it's Rihanna's hair style and hair color that changes with great frequency, but last night in London, at the launch of her new album, Rated R, it was all about the eyes. Wearing a bright, cool-toned fuchsia eyeliner on her bottom lash lines, she topped off the look with a contrasting warm gold shadow on the lids and feathery falsies on the top lashes. For a similar funked-up look, try Make Up for Ever's Aqua Eyes in Fuchsia Pink ($17). Hint: you could always line just the top for a more subtle effect. Apparently, the people who name eye shadows and the ones who make up street drug slang have more in common than a love of powdered substances - their choice of words is eerily similar as well. While drug abuse isn't funny at all, some of the names the government has collected that are supposedly used to describe them are, and eye shadows are sounding downright wild, if not pornographic, lately. Can you tell which of these is a harmless cosmetic and which a hard street drug? Or is it all a little purple haze-y?
