Fab Ad? Sisley Fashion Junkie, 1

UPDATE: I have been informed by Sisley's parent company Benetton that these ads are fake. To see the real Sisley fall ad campaign, please visit Sisley.com. Thanks!

OK hold up. Sisley has gone too far with this ad. I normally like Sisley's racy and daring ads but this is too much - too in your face! The line of poking fun has crossed over into inappropriate. This ad is part of a series and if you look at Fashion Junkie, 2, where the fashion vice is alcohol instead of blow, I think that is as far a fashion junkie as Sisley should have gone.

Back in 2004, Benetton owned Sisley was featured in an article about how in France ultra provocative advertising isn't shocking - which is true for a lot of countries - but the US is tighter lipped about such things. While I appreciate sultry imagery and can laugh at a cheeky message, there is a fine line.

There are a couple more things I'd like to point out here. There is some nippleage on the left model - no big whoop really. And, I wonder if Chase Bank is OK with these models using one of their bank cards as a cutting device. As for the clothes, I like the deep purple dress but I really can't focus on anything but the not-so-subliminal message and the weird look in the model's eye. What do you all think?!

Source

Ungaro CEO Defends Lindsay

Lindsay Lohan's career at Ungaro got off to a rocky start when her first catwalk collection received bad reviews. Emanuel Ungaro himself even spoke out against the celebrity designer saying the "collaboration was a disaster". The fashion world was in shock yesterday when Lindsay was confirmed to be remaining as the artistic advisor.

The CEO of Ungaro Mounir Moufarrige has since defended his decision explaining, "Fashion is controversial, and you need some novelties and you need to test some new ideas," adding that he is happy with his "walking, talking advertisement".

Although sales have been slow and both Net-a-Porter and Neiman Marcus have dropped the label for the Spring season, Moufarrige is not phased. He said, "There is more buzz definitely but we are in a recession. The criticism was harsh. I am sure we can do better in the collection to be honest but I think it was harsh." Do you think the criticism was unfair and that Lindsay should be allowed a second chance?

Australian Schools Let Companies "Teach" Makeup

I know that marketing in schools is nothing new, but a program in Australia is taking things to a new level. A program called Fashion Roll Call, which is sponsored in part by makeup brand NP Set Cosmetics, is touring all-girl schools around the country. Their goal is to educate girls in fashion and beauty industry careers by presenting a "lunch-time fashion parade" followed by makeup application tutorials taught by makeup artists who work for NP Set.

When I was 13, I probably would have been excited for this, since it means no class and playing with stuff my parents wouldn't let me wear. But as an adult, I have mixed feelings. The cosmetics brand is getting choice branding access to kids in exchange for a few makeup tips. And since this program is being billed as educational, and intended to teach children about the fashion and beauty industries, why no boys or coed schools? There are tons of men in the fashion and beauty industries, and their absence suggests that the informational element here is a thin veneer to make aggressive marketing more palatable. What do you think?

Italy's Fashion Houses Pay Tribute to Coca-Cola

Female designers Donatella Versace, Alberta Ferretti, Angela Missoni, Anna Molinari for Blumarine, Veronica Etro, Silvia Venturini for Fendi, Consuelo Castiglioni for Marni, and Rossella Jardini for Moschino dressed up Coca-Cola Light's trademark clear bottle for sale at an auction during Milan's "Tribute to Fashion" show.

I like them all, but my hands-down favorite is the iconic woven Missoni design, followed closely by the Moschino milk parody and Blumarine's flirty fruit pattern.
Prince Charles Visits Burberry HQ

Burberry isn't interested in the credit crunch. The British brand has continually reported a growth in sales throughout the economic downturn and Christopher Bailey, along with CEO Angela Ahrendts, has been a big factor in this. It has one of the biggest budgets for advertising and yet still made the slightly risky decision to return home during London Fashion Week to show one of the most talked about lines for Spring 2010. It's this kind of savvy business which has attracted the attention of Prince Charles who paid a visit to their new headquaters yesterday to officially open it.

The 160,000-square-foot base near the River Thames was packed with over 800 employees all eager to see the Prince who gave Burberry a royal warrant in 1990. On his visit Charles joked: “I fear I’ve caused complete and utter confusion. I’ve probably ruined your production targets for the day - I seem to spend my life doing that!” If you're wondering what's in the bag, Christopher presented him with a small gift of a gabardine walking jacket and a trademark check cashmere scarf – both made in the British Isles.

To see more images from Prince Charles' visit just keep reading.

Fashion and Advertising: Provocative Is an Understatement

Sex sells. We know it, fashion conglomerates know it. But some companies take that notion a step (or two, or three) too far.

There are provocative ads and then there are provocative ads, like Emanuel Ungaro's super steamy one (left). A handful of advertising campaigns from the '90s and early 2000s will make your jaw drop like they did mine. Still, they make you want to keep staring. I certainly don't live in a bubble, but there's still something mind-boggling about aggressively seductive ads. They make me feel like a kid who accidentally walked in on her parents' love-making session (gross!).

Take a lookie and let me know how these make you feel. Warning: These ads are NSFW.

To see some overly provocative fashion ads, read more

There's a great scene in Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can when Leonardo DiCaprio's con artist character tries to elude the cops by pretending to be a pilot. As he waltzes through the airport, he enlists the help of some glamorous stewardesses (yes, that's what they were called back then) to camouflage him with their identically glamorous outfits. A lot of the photos in this slideshow hearken back to a time that some call air travel's glory years, when service was still good and passengers weren't herded like cattle. Some would also call it a time when stewardesses (there were "cabin boys" too) were treated as sex objects who were supposed to wait on you hand and foot and possibly hint at . . .other services. (For a time, there was a policy that only unmarried women could be stewardesses.) Let's take a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly in this flight attendant flashback.

Vintage Lane Bryant Ad Redefines Size

This coat really does wonders, since this woman looks pretty slender to me. Must be a magical coat, too - it cost $145 in 1953 dollars, which is equivalent to $1,158 today!

Flashback: How to Avoid the Walk of Shame

This "Happy Legs" polyester pant suit is shameful in itself. But perhaps it will divert the attention away from Rebecca's sexual shame come Monday morning.
