Signing up for a gym membership is one way to help you get in shape. The hardest part, though, is motivating yourself to actually go. So tell me .

One way I beat boredom while doing cardio inside is to watch movies. I'll start one and watch about 30 minutes or more, and then the next time I work out, I'm excited to continue where I left off in the flick. I'm lucky to have a machine at home I can walk or run on, but if you don't, check out Cardio Theater.

I'm annoyed. No, I'm pissed actually. I go to the gym to workout.

I'll admit it: one of my guilty TV pleasures is The Millionaire Matchmaker. I find the orchestrated pairings entertaining and stomach-churning at the same time. Of course, there are other matchmakers hard at work without reality TV contracts.

Flipping through Time magazine, I came across some interesting figures. The magazine conducted polls on how the recession is affecting our spending habits, and the statistics that interested me were all health- and fitness-related — go figure. Here are a few numbers to chew on:
- Percentage of people who have not filled a medical prescription due to the cost: 20
- Percentage of folks spending less on health clubs: 27
- Amount of respondents spending more time exercising: 29 percent
- Percentage of people who have postponed or canceled a medical or dental procedure: 24
I am wondering about you all and how the recession is affecting you, your health, and your health spending habits.

Early last year I told you about the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act. And unfortunately, it has not been approved so we're not yet allowed to pay for our health club dues, physical fitness programs, certain exercise equipment, and children’s sports league fees with pretax dollars.
Now HealthClubs.com has made the process of bringing this act to the attention of US senators and representatives very, very easy.

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control released its list of the healthiest cities in the US. Using gender-specific stats, Self magazine has created its own list of the healthiest and unhealthiest cities for women. The magazine uses almost 8,000 bits of data in 50 categories to create its ranking system.

A survey taken by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has revealed the trends in commercial, corporate, clinical, and community fitness program environments. So if you're one of those who wants to be ahead of the trends (fitness and otherwise) here they are:
