It can be hard to find healthy foods that don't break the bank — as I've mentioned before, nutrition often comes with a high price tag. A new tool may be what consumers need to find the biggest health bang for their buck.
The Affordable Nutrition Index (ANI) is a rating system that evaluates food based on its health and price value, and over 300 foods were evaluated and given a nutrition-value-per-dollar score.

The majority of you haven't felt the recession in terms of gaining weight — you've figured out that just because you might be feeling a financial pinch, you don't have to resort to junk food that adds inches to your waistline. Because we're all concerned about balancing our diet while keeping balanced checkbooks, Dr. Adam Drewnowski, who directs the University of Washington Center For Public Health Nutrition, took it upon himself to research

I am always looking for easy ways to keep on track with my eating. This may be a bit neurotic, though control freaks do well at weight loss, but a food scale is a great way to keep track of what you're eating.
The Salter Nutri-Weigh Nutritional Food Scale ($99.99) is a computerized food scale that allows you to record daily food intake and set dietary goals plus review your progress.

I'm becoming a big fan of DailyBurn — a website that lets its users track workout, diet, and health goals in easy-to-read charts and graphs. There's a ton of great health and fitness information on the site and it has a social side that lets users interact with other members.
If you're not very tech savvy, don't be afraid.

Just in time for National Nutrition Month, one very good website is getting even better. The GoodGuide, a directory of healthy and eco-friendly products I first read about on lilsugar, has expanded its reach to include food ratings.
With a database of more than 5,000 food products — including fresh produce and packaged goods — GoodGuide helps you make buying decisions based on a product's environmental impact, healthfulness, and social responsibility, including workplace issues.

Look, it's not surprise that I am not the biggest fan of fast food restaurants. However, I do know that sometimes you just have to eat there so I am always on the hunt for healthier fast food joints and Au Bon Pain gets my stamp of approval.
Au Bon Pain provides Nutrition Kiosks, which allow guests to plan their meals before ordering them.

Everywhere you turn lately, it seems more and more foods are being labeled organic. It's definitely been a huge craze, although sales have fallen since the recession. Sales may fall even further after people hear about a new study published Wednesday that states organic doesn't mean healthier when it comes to nutrition
A review of 162 scientific studies carried out over the past 50 years found no significant difference between organic and conventional in regards to health benefits.

I try my absolute best to eat five to nine servings of fruit and veggies a day but sometimes I fall short. I also find that sometimes it's hard for me to digest all that roughage. I talked to my nutritionist about this problem and she recommended Greens First — a megablend powder that contains super foods, organic fruits and vegetables, probiotics, fiber, enzymes, and more.

National Nutrition Month encourages us to eat right, and I think it's easier to add more healthy food when you know how it's benefiting your body. Increase your enjoyment by learning how different foods are working to enhance your health. Can you match the food to its benefit?

The anecdotes that come out of the mouths of babes entertain parents, but what goes in can consume them. Last week, we tested your toddler nutritional needs knowledge and many of you were surprised by the facts.
To help mamas understand just where their children should be getting their food, we consulted the USDA's Food Pyramid.
