Just in time for National Nutrition Month, one very good website is getting even better. The GoodGuide, a directory of healthy and eco-friendly products I first read about on lilsugar, has expanded its reach to include food ratings.
With a database of more than 5,000 food products — including fresh produce and packaged goods — GoodGuide helps you make buying decisions based on a product's environmental impact, healthfulness, and social responsibility, including workplace issues.

I have somewhat recently become totally lactose intolerant — as in, no butter, no cheese, no yogurt, and nothing dairy. I'm totally opposed to relying on drugs to allow me to eat something my body clearly doesn't want to digest, so I've been experimenting with vegan cooking.

If you're worried about what to get those food know-it-alls on your shopping list, then fear no more. if the foodie in your life is constantly spouting off information, then test their knowledge by getting them the Food Lover's Trivia Game. If they don't yet know everything, then get them a copy of the Food Snob's Dictionary.

HEALTH GUIDE REFERENCE FROM A.D.A.M
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's newest food pyramid guide, called MyPyramid, encourages consumers to make healthier food choices and to get regular exercise. Unlike the older model, food groups are arranged in vertically bands, instead of horizontal ones. Band width indicates portion size.

At a tasting recently, I had the opportunity to get acquainted with California pioneer vintner, Joel Peterson. In 1976, he founded Ravenswood Winery, one of the country's preeminent Zinfandel producers. More than 30 years later, he remains Ravenswood's head winemaker.
