Sound delicious? Let's translate: it means "air diet" or as it's less commonly called "anorexia." France's latest fad diet is all the chore of eating (buying, preparing, plating), and none of the pleasure (tasting, chewing, digesting).

Before the Oscar hubbub quiets, maybe now is the time to check out a few of the nominees from the comfort of your own couch. This week's new DVD releases include two best picture nominees that you may not have seen yet, along with a documentary for a bit of brain food. Up in the Air In Up in the Air, director Jason Reitman brings us the story of Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), the grim reaper of job employment.

One the events I was most excited about attending last weekend at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival was a happy hour hosted by Sandra Lee. It wasn't the hostess that I was anticipating, however, but the location: late fashion designer Gianni Versace's villa, Casa Casuarina. The party went from 5 to 7 on Saturday, and upon arrival, I was grossly disappointed.

A recent SFGate article notes that the 2009 trend of ditching seeded lawns in favor of veggie patches will likely continue in Spring of 2010. The article says, "According to November's Edible Gardening Trends Research Report sponsored by the Garden Writers Association, food gardening will continue to be big, with 37 percent of the households surveyed planning to expand their food garden this year." While I haven't said goodbye to my entire lawn, a good portion of it is now reserved for gardening (as you can see from this picture).

A few weeks ago, I made a New Year's resolution that I would give myself a jump-start to healthier eating by kicking it off with a five-day detox, which consisted mostly of vitamin-packed shots in the morning, chocolate-flavored protein shakes for breakfast, and lemon-dressed salads for lunch and dinner. When all was said and done, I came out of the detox six pounds lighter with smoother, brighter skin and an enlightened attitude.
But have I been keeping up with my promise to stay on the healthier end of the culinary spectrum?
