Trend Alert: Hat Hair

Fab told me that hats are big these days, but I thought it would be difficult to work that look outside of a fashion show. But there they were at last night's Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party. Hilary Duff wore a floppy knit beret, Frances Bean Cobain donned a more structured hat, and web celeb Cory Kennedy channeled Isabella Blow with a netted chapeau.

Of course, certain hats go better with certain hairstyles. A beret like Hilary's is flattering on medium-to-long hair because it allows the hair to flow (it's also a fast fix when you don't feel like doing much primping). Pretty much anyone can wear a trilby, but if your hair is chin-length, pull it away from the front of your face (as Frances does) so the hat-hair combo doesn't overwhelm. Finally, there's a more formal hat, like the one Cory wears. If you choose this hat, go with an updo-the casual, flowing hair just doesn't work with such a rigid accessory.

Introducing Frances Cobain

Here are the scans from Teen Vogue we wrote about where Frances declared her individuality. She said,

"I'm a different person," the 13-year-old tells Teen Vogue in the magazine's upcoming issue. "I don't want to be titled as Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain's daughter. I want to be thought of as Frances Cobain."

"I don't like to look sloppy. I'm a girly-girl," says Cobain.

She doesn't like it when her mom looks sloppy, either. "I prefer when she's more 'classy starlet'" - think Love's 1997 Versace-engineered Oscar makeover - "I don't really like her hard-metal stuff, or when she doesn't brush her hair."

I love how girly she is!

Musicians Make Merry After the Grammys

It may have been a looong Grammy Awards, but it was only more reason to keep the party going after the show ended. The stars got to mix and mingle with their fellow musicians at the Sony BMG Party, making for some predictable (and a few unlikely) pairings. Nicole and Joel were looking a little worn out, while Beyonce was practically glowing in yellow next to John Mayer, making her fourth outfit change of the night. Which B outfit was your favorite? Also, is it just us, or did John look a little too pretty-boy last night? Carrie Underwood naturally gravitated toward country star Brad Paisley, while Jay-Z looked absolutely thrilled to be posing with Chris Daughtry. We just wish we could eavesdrop on a few of their conversations, although something tell us that Amy Winehouse's performance was a hot topic across the board.

The Courtney Love Diaries

Courtney Love is clean and sober and out promoting her new tell-all memoir called "Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love." In the book she talks all about her past, including Kurt Cobain, daughter Frances Bean and her famous drug addiction. Here's more:

Now sober for 15 months, Love writes that if she could, she'd put "a black page in this book and just write 2001 to 2004 across it," because "I was on drugs and nothing I wrote made any sense."

Love says another troubled star helped her seek rehab and get clean.

Love was holed up in a fancy hotel room in Beverly Hills, doing drugs, when Mel Gibson and addiction counselor Warren Boyd knocked on the door.

"Mel kept coming to the door with this cheesy grin going, 'Hi!'" Love said. "I just kept looking at him going, 'Blank off!' … I know him and he's a nice guy, but it just didn't matter who it was. It could have been Jesus. I didn't care."

But the men doing drugs with Love recognized Gibson and left with him to get a cheeseburger. That gave Boyd the opportunity to get into the room and coax her into rehab.

Mel to the sober rescue. Somewhat ironic isn't it? Well let's hope Courtney stays sober for Frances at least.

Young, Hot, Colorful Hollywood

While LBDs reigned at the Chanel P.S. ART party, color (and hat hair) abounded at last night's LA Teen Vogue Young Hollywood soiree. While I'm all for the brightness on Jamie-Lynn's dress (at least in theory), she needs to do something about the color in her hair. Then again, maybe bad fashion is just in her genes. Blah blah more Hayden, though it's a little interesting that Stephen was there too - perhaps it's what drove him to the tequila/LC. Obviously Rumer is too cool for school these days, but the other two Willis girls were out perfecting their pouts. I know the party is for young Hollywood, but Tallulah (or is it just Lula now?) is only 13! They're getting younger and younger these days.

Versace Honored in Hollywood

Forget NY Fashion Week. All the biggest names last night happened to be at a fashion event on the west coast. Donatella Versace came to Hollywood to pick up a Rodeo Drive Walk Of Style Award. All of her friends came out dressed up in their most fabulous Versace to honor the designer and her brother. It's hard to believe that it's been almost ten years since Donatella took over the line after the tragic death of her brother Gianni. Donatella was of course very moved by all those who showed up to honor the designer family. Here's more:

On the Award: "It's a great honour for me to receive this prize, especially because I'm getting it in Hollywood, which is my favourite place in the world," she said. "I miss Gianni very much. He deserves this award and I only wish he could have received it in person."
On taking over the fashion line: "I was very insecure because I knew that all eyes were on me, and the recurring question that echoed in my head was people asking, 'Will she make it?'," admitted the mum-of-two. But Wednesday's unveiling makes it clear that the glamorous blonde has more than proved her fashion credentials.

Thanks to Donatella, the Versace line is bigger and better than ever! Not that she needs the validation, but the array of glamorous Hollywood stars that came out to honor Donatella should more than prove her success.

Francis Bean's Dramatic Entrance

Clown reminiscent make-up aside, Courtney Love seems to want to get her act together, but somehow her past keeps catching up with her. An upcoming biography of Nirvana details the crazy drama of the day that her daughter, Francis Bean, was born. It's disturbing, to say the least. Page Six reports:

In "Nirvana - The Biography," author Everett True describes how Cobain and Love both ended up at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. within days of each other in August 1992 - the grunge rocker checking in for a 60-day heroin detox stint and Love, a few days later, for complications arising from her pregnancy.

Two weeks into his stay, Love found herself about to go into labor. According to True: "Courtney - never one to miss an opportunity for drama - grabbed her intravenous drip stand at 4 in the morning, and wheeled it down the corridors to where Kurt was staying. 'You get out of out of this bed and come down now!' she screamed. 'You are not leaving me to do this by myself, [bleep] you!'

"Her husband followed her to the delivery room - weakened from his treatment, and hooked up to an IV stand himself - and passed out just moments before Frances was born." Then things got even weirder when, as Courtney related to True, "I'm having the baby, it's coming out, [Kurt's] puking, he's passing out and I'm holding his hand and rubbing his stomach while the baby's coming out."

Dear lord, how has Francis Bean ended up as grounded as she seems? Honestly, I would understand any level of instability from her, but she seems to be a relatively normal teenager. Well, we suppose someone's got to keep Courtney in check.
