You'll Always Have a Placenta in My Heart

Gross (but useful!) Hask Henna 'n' Placenta ($2) for hair has been around forever, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that now there are placenta facials.

Placentas, also known as afterbirth, are full of protein, iron, and tons of vitamins and minerals, which, I will allow, make them excellent for the health of hair, skin, and nails. People have been using the placentas of sheep and horses as beauty aids for time immemorial, in fact. But guess what? We have a lot of nice ways to synthesize this stuff now, and you could also just use wheat protein and run-of-the-mill vitamins to get the same effect. I guess treatments like this are more natural, but to me, they're also gross. I used a placenta hair treatment once, and although it worked well, it was no better than some hot oil and a deep conditioner, and it smelled pretty funky. If you were offered a placenta facial, would you take it in all its "natural" glory?

2009 American Music Awards: Rihanna

Rihanna was winging it at the American Music Awards - or at least her eyeliner was. Most of you were loving this red eyeliner look when Rihanna sported it earlier this week, but this time she's gone for a cool, almost airbrush effect. She keeps the rest of her makeup simple, and her hair is funky but not busy. One thing's for sure: Rihanna always keeps us guessing. Is this another win in your book, or does it strike an off note for you?

Love It or Hate It? Dannii Minogue's Asymmetrical Hair

On Sunday night's X Factor, Dannii Minogue sent the lovely Lucie on her way. Although the evening was sad (and in my opinion unfair), Dannii said her goodbye in style, sporting an asymmetrical bob. The right side of her hair was longer than the left, and the left side of her fringe was longer than her right! Dannii's always doing something funky with her look either styling it in a quiff or crimping the top. Vote on what you think of this particular hairstyle below.

Covergirl Blake Lively Supports Chanel Benefit

Leigh Lezark, Diane Kruger and Blake Lively were among the guests at the Chanel Fete d'Hiver benefit in New York last night, all looking stunning in their gowns. The blonde Gossip Girl star is on the front of a couple of magazines at the moment, in Nylon she's looking funky in checks, and on the US Marie Claire cover she's showing some skin! Here's some extracts from her interview:

On acting:"As a character, I get to be this wild, outgoing person that I’m so not. I think it all comes from being the youngest of five. I was always observing my siblings and hearing stories about their lives that turned out to to be helpful as an actress."
On growing up and fashion: "Living in New York, I feel stronger and more like a woman than ever before. In high school, it was like, what power do I have - I have long blonde hair, you know? But working as hard as I do now, I feel a sense of power and respect, too. And I’ve learned an incredible amount about fashion on Gossip Girl. Clothes are a personal expression, and my style is as ever-changing as I am: I’m growing, maturing, developing, I’m going through new things in my life, and with that, what I choose to wear changes."

It's Hard to Resist Kristen Stewart's Allure

We caught a sneak peek at Kristen Stewart shooting the November cover of Allure back in July at the Santa Monica Pier, and the issue is finally about to hit newsstands. It's yet another cover after her recent appearance in Interview as she makes the rounds to discuss her latest film in the Twilight series. She sat down to chat all about her personality, what sets the movies apart from all the other vampire stories, and even Robert Pattinson. Here's more:

On her dating Robert Pattinson: "I read that story every day. . . it’s in a story every day, so let’s not put it in another one."
On why Twilight resonates with fans: "There's a lot of [vampire] stuff out there, but this goes deeper. But it's [more than] just foreplay. Even though it does that so well -it does a f***ing good job - the build up is like, ridiculous. But it's all for the right reasons. You're so very much with Bella. You're so in her shoes that it's a vicarious experience. It's addictive."
On people's reactions to the shots of her kissing Robert in New Moon: "This shot got everyone talking like I have some sort of great ass. But come on, I have a flat ass. I don't know what people are talking about."

On her weight: "I don’t exercise. I’m skinny fat. I worry about being too skinny. You should see my brother, he's, like, emaciated. We both just happen to be really skinny."
On the Bella doll: "She has bigger t*ts than me, and she looks ten years older. I have one, it's in a drawer."
On trying to be sincere: “I spend so much of my time guarding against sounding insincere about something that I would die for. . . maybe I’m overcompensating. . . I care so much. And it gets reported as the opposite. And even seeing this [interview], they’ll be like, Oh, she’s trying to let us know. . . "

London Fashion Week, Spring 2010: Jeremy Scott

New York designer Jeremy Scott opened the final day of London Fashion Week for Spring 2010. The show was a real pick me up with bright colours, funky music and the craziest beauty looks I've seen all week. The line was heavily inspired by the stone age, or more specifically The Flintstones with cartoonish animal prints, jagged hemlines and a bright neon colour palette. Famous models packed the catwalk with appearances from Liberty Ross, Pixie Geldof and Daisy Lowe who commented it was the "best hair n makeup ever!" All of the looks were styled with bone sandals and leather gloves.
