What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

It's Tuesday, so you know what that means - new DVD releases just in time for the Thanksgiving break! I've already shared some fresh music picks, but here are three movies to add to your Netflix queue for the weekend.

Funny People

Adam Sandler plays a comedian who tries to turn his life around and befriend a past love (Leslie Mann) after being diagnosed with a blood disorder; Seth Rogen steps in as his idealistic assistant. Both men turn in solid performances in Funny People, and there are laughs, even though this is way more serious than director Judd Apatow's previous work. One of my complaints in the theater was that it was much too long, but that's the good thing about DVDs - you can always hit pause and go back later.

The single disc version includes a gag reel and a feature commentary with Apatow, Rogen, and Sandler. (Normally I don't watch with the commentary on, but in this case, I might just tune in for their wise cracks.) The special two-disc collector's version is loaded with extras, including a 13-year old Seth Rogen doing stand-up!

Four Christmases

I love Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon, and while they don't necessarily have any sparks in Four Christmases, they still serve up a cute comedy. The pair star as a couple stuck visiting four sets of relatives around the holidays - his mom, her mom, his dad, her dad. And while it's not the funniest or most charming film that either actor has done, I still had a few laughs, especially thanks to the supporting cast of quirky characters (Jon Favreau and Kristin Chenoweth in particular). Even if it doesn't stack up against the classics in my holiday movie faceoff, it's worth trying if you're looking to get into the spirit of the season.

Angels and Demons

Tom Hanks fans have Angels and Demons to look forward to. The actor is incredibly long-winded in the follow-up film to The DaVinci Code, but at least he's no longer sporting that ridiculous bouffant hairdo. This time, Robert Langdon tries to save the Vatican from an ancient group known as the Illuminati. Personally, I was bored by the first half when I saw the film in theaters, but the second part is actually fun - so if you catch it at home, you may want to fast forward a bit to get to the good stuff.

Buzz-Worthy Video: Conan O'Brien on Zach Galifianakis's Between Two Ferns

This is pretty much my dream scenario: Conan O'Brien and Zach Galifianakis sitting down, shooting the breeze. You know I'm a fan of Galifianakis and his awkward Between Two Ferns interview series on Funny or Die. (His off-color remarks to Natalie Portman still make me giggle.) For this latest installment, he questions the Tonight Show host and his sidekick, Andy Richter.

In the video, poor O'Brien keeps lobbing jokes, but Galifianakis shoots them down. (Watch for the "cricket riding a tumbleweed" button.) Oh, and in a random cameo, Andy Dick stops by, forcing O'Brien to move to the floor.

Let's just say that when you see this screen, it's not good news. Usually whenever I have a "Is this normal?" question, I turn to Google to get my answer quickly and painlessly (not to mention, privately!). But now with a website called Is It Normal?, you can read a plethora of burning questions that have been submitted. Oh Gods, this video is both embarrassing and awesome at the same time. I was laughing so hard! The best part of this video was learning that "you never have to compromise when you're right. That's for people that are wrong." That will come in handy in my marriage.

Unintentionally Funny: Ask Men Decodes Feminism

Ask Men recently called in a woman to answer the pressing question: what feminist demands do women want men to ignore?

The list the "relationship correspondent" came up with is awesomely and unintentionally funny, as is the accompanying article. Of course, the writer points out that she's not talking about "the stereotypical, garden-variety, hairy-armpit feminist." Instead she's focused on the "sexy feminist" - the non-clingy girlfriend who can pay her own bills.

The list of "those pesky feminist demands that even the most independent of women is expecting you to ignore" include:

"I can carry my own bag."
"Don't objectify me!"
"I'll pay my share."
"I can think for myself!"
"I won't be shackled into a marriage."

Would you be happy if men ignored these so-called feminist demands?

Will You Watch the Return of Gavin & Stacey Tonight?

What's occuring? The third (and final) series of Gavin & Stacey, that's what! It all kicks off tonight on BBC 1 at 9pm, where we pick up with Gavin - who's started a new job in Cardiff, Smithy - who's trying to cope without him, and the gang, as they all prepare for baby Neil's christening. It looks set to be as funny and heartwarming as ever, and we'll even get a song from Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon). Ruth Jones and James Corden were at Radio 1 this morning promoting the show - I can't wait to see how their characters Nessa and Smithy are getting on this series now that they're parents! As you can tell, I'm excited about tuning in tonight, but will you watch? Let me know!

My sister still calls her kids' Wii "The Wii Machine" and my mom once sent all her information to her "bank" - which was of course, a scam. As scary as that experience is for anyone, she was able to stop anything from happening. Of course I can laugh at it now because all I remember is my mom calling me to tell me she got "hacked! I got hacked!"

These are the kind of stories we need in the Funny Tech Stories Group! I know you've got some great gems to share, and it's not limited to your loved ones - ever done anything embarrassing, tech-wise? Maybe you thought Ubuntu was the name of an ethnic restaurant, or wasted hours of your time when you got your first iPod trying to figure out how to get the songs off the device and onto a computer (my brilliant brother-in-law even did this).
